A hearty laugh escapes the dark-clad priest from his spot next to the ANGEL – amusement in his cynical eyes. “I don’t.” He responds, honestly. “But I do enjoy… encouraging others break the rules – I was asking for reference, so I know how long to keep you distracted.”
It was a teasing banter from the older man. Clearly he knew the other was far past the age ( or the company ) to reinforce any sort of true curfew. Somehow he doubted that his corpse bodyguard doubled as an alarm clock of sorts. He was more then welcome to be proven wrong, but somehow, he just didn’t believe it offhand. However – that hadn’t kept the mischievous man from making the comment.
It was funny – especially since they hadn’t seen each other in so long. “Imagine now, if I had approached you saying that line, though? Wouldn’t that have been especially funny?” He asks, lifting his glass back to his lips as his eyes drifted to the side. It was a funny thought. And, though he tended to MANIPULATE events to work out his way, the thought had only occurred to him now. ( … must be losing my touch. ) “Especially if I hadn’t recognized you at first~” A laugh escapes his lips then, humoring the idea as he nursed the drink in his hands.
That comment was his little way of saying – I may have seriously meant the pick-up line. May have. Maybe.
“Well, dear angel.” He pauses, shifting his gaze towards the blue-eyed young man. A smirk working it’s way to his thin lips. “You’ll find I have a preference for being the one to do the pinning, in most situations. It’s a nasty habit of mine, to need to come out on top.” Still flirting? Possibly. Who knows?
NONETHELESS SHE SOUGHT DARKNESS BY HERSELF. Those days spent by Izanami’s side taught her a valuable lesson. However to speak of them with others, to reveals those secrets they shared together was something which she would refrain from doing. Whatever fragment of sympathy ( if there was anything left ) which the goddess had for her would not be broken apart. That trust would not be betrayed. If anything, whatever happened would remain between them. Feeling at ease as she kept on hearing Ana speaking, Yuna wondered for a brief moment about her own story. Regardless of her dispute with Yukimura, was Ana truly happy?
❝ Not in the slightest. I am at peace with what happened back then. Whatever consequences, I will confront them. However.. ❞ Hesitation was present into her voice, her tone becoming slightly lower than normal. Yuna was not certain of how to bring that certain topic to Anastasia. Whatever happened, she should not get involved, but how could she just abandon somebody whom she deemed as friend? Perhaps it was an action based on her grudge towards Yukimura, but.. she often wondered whether she was happy there. ❝ Are you happy being there? You must be aware now of my…. dispute with that man. ❞ It had been more than a dispute. It reached the point where Yuna did not wish to cross paths with him again. Somebody as proud as herself would not lower herself to apologize for something which she was in the right.
Taking in a deep breathe, she chose to stop hesitating and confront Ana regardless of whether she would be wrong or not. ❝ I wonder whether you feel well there or not. I told him I believe he considers you all as pawns and I still believe that. I am aware that you and Hanzo are not on friendly terms, but when I confronted Yukimura about his death… ❞ That gaze, those words.. even recalling everything made Yuna’s blood boil. At that time she was hesitating a lot, those words she said being spilled out in a fit of anger. Now if she could repeat that scene, she would have done everything in a different way. ❝ Honestly, I prefer not to see his face ever again, so you will not see me again in Ueda. I will not apologize for something I said and believe in strongly. But this does not mean I do not care about you or have respect for you and the others as he claims. Haha, I still want to hit him. A real hit this time. ❞
“As long as you are willing to face the consequences headfirst, you should be able to overcome them eventually.” Anastasia responds with a bit of a hum – nodding a little, approvingly. The truth was, that was part of her problem when she had originally returned. It had been done so as … final act. She had returned to UEDA with the understanding that she would die.
Almost the H O P E for death.
However, when she’d been granted an extension to her life, when she’d been accepted amongst them again as the terms for her “f o r g i v e n e s s” . . . she’d felt TRAPPED. Sometimes, that man’s kindness was horribly crippling. It was K I N D, but it was manipulative. He’d known from the moment he spoke that his kindness was a binding c o n t r a c t. If Anastasia had had any other goals, dreams, or aspirations, they would have died on the spot. However, her dreams had died before that day, regardless. “… I’m aware of your conflict with our Lord, yes.” Anastasia responds, somewhat… carefully. “I wasn’t informed of it by the Lord himself, Sanada-sama has mostly kept the situation to himself, with the exception of his page – Rokurou-san. I simply happened to overhear about it when they were talking.” Honestly? She wasn’t sure what to make of the situation herself, since she hadn’t been there. And as she wasn’t properly informed? She was slow to make a judgement call on the situation… However? As the other asks about her own situation, Anastasia offers a soft smile. “I’m fine, Yuna-san. Sanada-sama has been more then lenient with me, and. . . even if I wasn’t exactly thrilled by his decision to employ me again at first? I’m… grateful that he did. It gave me a chance to redeem myself. It’s… given me the chance to make things right with people. And... I didn’t know how much I needed that.”
Though she had resented H I M for it at first, Anastasia knew that without his kindness she would have never been able to make things right with Isanami. She would have never been able to apologize to Sasuke. Or work towards redemption in Saizou’s eyes. Or even get to speak to ROKUROU about what she’d done to his e y e. . . They were dear friends of hers, and if she’d left things as they were? She would have DIED a traitor.
However, as the other continues to talk, Anastasia falls silent again. The RUSSIAN Kunoichi interested to hear what her friends was speaking. It was… interesting to hear that. From an outsiders perspective, perhaps it did look that way, but? After the other finishes speaking, she offers a slight nod – “… I can see where you might think that. I believed the same at first.” It was the honest truth. She’d HATED Yukimura years ago, judged him immediately due to his being a feudal LORD whose title had been granted to him from W A R. And the fact was – LORD tended to treat their underlings like pawns and playthings. She knew that VERY personally. And yet? “It’s impossible for me to dispute that it might seem that way, however? I can say this with absolute certainty: Yukimura is the best possible lord for me and those who are in his employ. He’s… unique. Weird. But he absolutely see’s us all as people, or? We wouldn’t still be there.” Saizou in specific was who she was thinking of. The young man who had had such skills – but had abandoned the idea of ever getting a lord. Yukimura was the one who had given him any faith in serving others again.
“I do not fault you for following your ideals. You should do what you think is best.” Anastasia believed that. If Yuna thought it was best to not return, then perhaps it was best. “I don’t claim to understand that man – so I can’t say what’s running through his head. I can’t imagine what it was that he said to you about Hanzo’s disappearance.” In fact, she couldn’t be sympathetic when it came to that at all. When it came to Hanzo, she STILL hated him. He’d deceived her and used her as a weapon against the others. So? Despite being willing to work with him, because she was professional, she did hate him. “And you should hit him again. Honestly, most of us spend our time exhausted with his antics… and most of us would like to hit him to. But? I would like to put forth that you should reframe from doing any real damage to him. We’re the only ones who are supposed to beat our lord up.” She offers with a smile and a soft laugh – ( Rokurou half burst the lords eardrums every other day with that technique of his… so… ) “We’re also paid to keep him from any real damage – so? You’d be denying us our pay if you got a real hit in.”

When the other made her comment, he just stares for a second – it was a strangely comforting thing for her to say. It was N I C E to know that his partner wasn’t the type to just abandon him, and yet? Her words had him a little… embarrassed.
“… I was trying to make a joke?” He offers out, somewhat meekly as he looks at her through his bangs.
He wasn’t good at those. Being as asocial as he was, he tended to just… hide. Observe. It was easier that way. Especially given his quirky habits and hobbies. “I should… work on my joking tone, hmm?” He continues, though… he really was flattered. It was nice to know that he had such a protective and kind friend. He wasn’t sure where he had gone R I G H T in life to meet someone like her, but? Regardless, Hijirihara felt very lucky…
The Brave of Wind, Kamanosuke has joined the rest of the Brave 10 on request of Yukimura… but? Mostly due to the fact that he’s seeking revenge and a rematch against his self-proclaimed rival, Saizou. (You know, his new leader.) Because of this? He can often be seen looking for the other, and causing trouble around Ueda Castle. A former bandit, now learning to be a member of a team… run by his rival? Yeah, this is going to end well.
Kamanosuke is becoming restless. Peaceful times are alright, he’s calmed down some, but? Whenever the chance to fight presents itself, he becomes uncontrollable. Unmanageable. But? Despite his eagerness to fight? Despite the fact that he loves battle, it appears he’s fallen a little behind his fellow Brave’s. Be it skill, or mentality? It’s hard to know.
This verse encompasses the time after Kamanosuke left the group, after his particular encounter with Saizou and up until his return during the battle with Izanami. During this time, Kamanosuke is hopeless for a time, depressed even- But? Finds unlikely help in the form of Saizou’s old teacher. With some help? The Brave of Wind has gotten much stronger, and is now returning to the others. Enthusiastic, again, about continuing his battle with the other- And actually holding a candle to him, once again. “Wait until you see me now!”
A wandering bandit, Yuri has very few friends. Instead? He has a fairly decent sized group of bandits that he keeps himself around. People that he knows won’t judge him for looking or acting weirdly, because? He’s strong enough to back himself up, and carry the rest of them with him. It’s how he’d become their leader, and? It’s how he’s found the only safe place for him, at this moment. He’s restless, relentless, and cruel. Because? He has no reason not to be.
A young princess in a foreign kingdom, Yuri doesn’t have a great many friends… In fact? For the most part, she appears to be avoided, due to her strange hair color, and her facial tattoo. Regardless of that fact, she doesn’t seem particularly heart-broken by her isolation. Instead, using the time to better herself, and hang around the few people who do matter to her. (Yes, this is based off the “dream” that Kamanosuke ended up having in “Brave 10.”)
This little piece of shit? Is very rarely seen around the school grounds. A delinquent freshman, he really just… sort of does whatever he wants to. Non-surprisingly, he’s found himself in a few less than favorable scuffles with people, because of it. But? He can really find himself particularly caring. He can take a few bumps and bruises. In fact? He always appears to be ready for a fight. Even one that he’ll likely lose.
The canon verse for Zach. He’s a killer on the bottom layer of the “hospital” - in charge of the lowest floor. He’s not very smart, but he is passionate and powerful. He can neither read nor write, and his unchecked strength... occasionally gets him into trouble. But, he is honest: and he hates lies with everything he is. . . and so? He’ll never lie himself.

Bringing an engaged prince to his engagement can be more difficult then expected - especially when Crown City money doesn’t work outside of their walls, and without a single “gil” on any of them. However, a bit of hard labor helps out. And? He’s always up for camping as a cheaper alternative to staying in hotels and the likes on the way.
This is the portion of the trip at the very beginning. So far, it’s just an adventure. Nothing too big to worry about.
After the destruction of the Crown City, things change quite a bit. Noctis, the prince he’s in charge of guarding, has been declared “dead.” And though that can buy them some time to get him elsewhere, that status will only cover them for so long - so it’s time to cover some ground while they have the coverage. Unfortunately, this trip has gone bad to worse... and it has no looks of getting any better. This won’t stop Gladio from doing his best to guard the prince or the rest of the group, however.
Including hunting down Gilgamesh to try to up his game. If he’s going to guard the chosen king, he needs to be sure he’s a Shield ready for that duty.
After Noctis’ return from the Crystal/During the time he was missing. Doing his best to both train and to help settle places for refugee’s. He’s a hunter now, most of the time. But once his king returns, he quickly reunites with the others to guard him once again.

“Scared? Truly? Of little ol’ me?” Anastasia asks – attempting to keep a straight face, while a smile tickled at her lips. She couldn’t HIDE things from her younger companion anymore. At least, not little things. The fact that she’d purposely snuck up on the younger Brave was as much of a give away as any. . .
However, since the other seemed to melt into her hug anyways? Despite her complaints? Anastasia would simply have to assume that she hadn’t truly done anything wrong. Leading to her sticking out her tongue, somewhat childishly, at the others “ t h r e a t. “
“You wouldn’t do that to me.” Anastasia is quick to say, chuckling a little at the others response – seeing the smaller BRAVE also stick out her tongue slightly. Today they were both acting VERY MATURE, clearly. Though, when ISANAMI gives her a chaste kiss on the nose – Anastasia blinks. Her sapphire eyes widening, for once, earnestly – surprise dancing in them.
Little things Isanami did had a way of throwing her entirely off her game. ( But – I suppose that was a little of what l o v e was, wasn’t it? )
This loss would only last a fraction of a second. Composure quickly returned with a chuckle and the comment, “Yes, dear. Yes you do.” And with that, the older B R A V E entirely releases Isanami from her hug. Instead, offering out her hand. The non-vocal cue for the other to come with her. “But only this time. I have a reputation to keep.”

At the very least he was glad she was willing to listen to reason – hearing him out and calming down a little, even coming to her own conclusion about the storm. Good. She had a working head on her shoulders. This was important, if they were going to be here together. Messiah didn’t work well with others often, especially civilians.
Especially CIVILIANS who got in the way of his jobs. But? That was another matter. “That is the most likely solution, yes. Electricity can travel through the ground, or if it just happened to hit a powerline or such – it’s likely that it’d just turn on, if sparked into action.” At least, that was far more likely than believing this place to be haunted.
Right?
Science had nothing to imply that spirits stayed in any place. Though rumors and stories spun frequently about hauntings and the chaos that it could cause – Messiah was unlikely to believe it without proof. Spirits, strong attachments, regrets, anger… guilt . . ? There were many popular stories to explain “HAUNTINGS,” but? As far as he was concerned, those were the ramblings of a paranoid person. Or of a person feeling “GUILTY” themselves.
“You needn’t apologize. You’re uncomfortable. That’s perfectly human.” Messiah reassures, as his eyes fixate on the hall – he was trying to see if he could pick any shadows moving in the distance. However, aside from the ones you would expect from flashes of LIGHTNING through dust-covered windows? He couldn’t see anyone moving inside the parlor. “If it makes you more comfortable, you’re welcome to continue holding onto my arm. But, if we find another person in here, I’m going to need it back – and you’re going to need to get behind me.” He couldn’t have her impeding his ability to fight, should he need to.
And honestly, if she was going to be here with him – he’d almost rather know exactly where she was, then risk her wondering off. At least this way, he can reassure his clients that she was doing not damage to the place and keep her from risk of being sued. Or arrested for trespassing.
“Detective Messiah.” He corrects, offering an ever-so-slight smile this time. His amethyst eyes shifting from his focus only for a moment to meet the other eyes – “Though, given the circumstances, just Messiah would be fine.” Why waste time in a situation where communication might be important?
However, he raises his eyebrows a little at her question. Suddenly curious about the land, hmm? How curious. “They’re not in a position to have firm plans, I’m afraid. Given that they know little about what is here, or the condition it’s in – they’re going to need to make sure it’s safe for a property inspector to come through and assess the place. Once they’re finished, it’s likely to have everything here sold and the property destroyed to build something else. At least, that’s what most would do given the state of the place. But? Perhaps they’d refurbish and create a museum? That’s what I’d do.” Perhaps that made him a little… ODD. But he enjoyed old places like this. And it’s hard to copy this sort of building with modern designing. However, as they talk, he starts moving forward – his voice a whisper as he gradually inches forward. He wasn’t going too quick – he would make sure she could keep holding onto him as he continued forward, should she want to. He wouldn’t shake her off or try to move on without her.
For both of their sakes? It was probably just better to have her come along for the ride anyways…
The youngest Princess in the Kou Empire, Ren Kougyoku aims to be similar to her “sister” Hakuei and become a general princess. She’s even gone so far as to capture a dungeon in hopes of accomplishing this. And? She is rather powerful while wielding her Djinn.
She can seem a little cold and distant at first, however? When it comes down to it, that is a front to try to help her be a little more like her brothers. She can be very insecure and confused when it comes to certain things - however? Her heart it often in the right place. She neither enjoys war nor does she care for senseless violence. However? She will always prioritize protecting her family over all. Judal/Judar included.
Having stepped up to become the next Empress of the Kou Empire, she found herself in a position she’d never really... seen herself in. She’d had dreams of being a General, of supporting her family when they ascended to the throne . . . she hadn’t expected to become the Empress herself.
( under construction! )
Despite being the daughter of Koutoku, she was never discovered to be as such - so? A commoner of the Kou Empire, as well as the daughter of a prostitute, she has dreams of seeing the outside world. Which, it not normal for a citizen of the Kou Empire, let alone a young woman. She wants to see the outside world, she wants... more then this life. And she knows that if she stays here, she has little hope above following in her mothers footsteps.
Perhaps it’s time to travel the world and try her luck.
Working alongside of the Yoko Kurama can be a bit of an adventure - at least he’s always thought so. They’ve had some near misses, and some close calls that it’s never boring to be around one another.
... unfortunately, eventually, it’s one close call too many.
Having barely survived his near death encounter, he’s not surprised that Yoko thought he was dead - he thought he’d certainly been at death’s door himself. However, due to the incredibly long time it’s taken for him to recover? He hasn’t approached the other again. It’s been a difficult struggle - from his wings been riddled with holes to, in general, being unable to get far fast... surviving has been a struggle. After all, his near death encounter left him barely able to defend himself. The rest of the time he needed to recover wouldn’t come easy... or fast.
When he finally did recover, he wasn’t as strong as he once was. So? He gave his former partner distance - especially having seen the other had sorta changed his life style. He knows the old sayings about falling into your old crowd, it tends to reverse your behavior. And if the other has changed his ways, he doesn’t want to be the reason he falls back into step - however? It hasn’t stopped him from coming to events where Kurama has been. Such as going to the Dark Tournament and watching from afar.
blah blah blah
smiletorn:
Hearing his words made her feel more at ease. Exhaling softly, the priestess shakes her head and eases herself into her standard smile. Right, ruminating about what it could be wouldn’t help the problem nor would being anxious solve anything. They were going to find answers and she wasn’t alone in this cold darkness. If she had been by herself, perhaps she might have shut down completely.
Fortunately, the person helping her was a kind person.
❛ Oh, thank you! ❜ She nods enthusiastically, loosening her grip a bit but keeping a firm hold on his arm. It was her way of saying that she did wish to continue holding onto it, if only to give her some semblance of comfort. ❛ And… that’s a nice thing of you to say. That being scared like this… is just human. ❜ She knew others who would say otherwise, that being frightened was just a sign of weakness. And though Isanami did her best to embrace her weakness, there were still parts of her she was not proud of. Doing her best to change, but the process of doing so… difficult. ❛ You’re a good person. I like you. ❜ Humming, she swings his arm a little, deciding to let herself go as the minutes went by.
Though she was still anxious, she figured it was better to be carefree and rely on him since he was more experienced than her. ❛ Will do! Just let me know if you’re gonna do something. Though I’ll keep a loose enough grip so that you can take your arm back if there’s not enough time to warn me. ❜ She grins. ❛ Okay, Messiah! You can just call me plain old Isanami then, none of that ‘miss’ stuff. It makes me feel old. A lot of fancy people like to do that sometimes and it kinda bothers me. ❜ Not that she met with nobility on frequent occasions, but when she did? They were usually arrogant, and ‘miss’ in that regard was used condescendingly.
His answer to her question does make her tilt her head though. Stopping in her small talk as she contemplates the meaning of what he said.
❛ To make sure it’s safe? Of course it is! The only people that’s been here are kids from our village. And even then, that’s rare because we’re all too afraid to come here by ourselves. What else would be here that’s dangerous? ❜ Arching a brow in curiosity, she glances up at Messiah. ❛ Besides, you’re a famous detective. Inspecting a place like this isn’t your job, right? You solve murders and stuff. I dunno exactly what a property inspector does, but it sounds like they’re supposed to be doing what you’re doing now. Rich people are so weird… but no offense to you, Messiah! ❜ She sighs. ❛ Making it a museum would be nice. I know a lotta people that would be sad to see this place go. Abandoned or not, the elders here have some memories attached. Plus, I think it’s kinda fun to have a test of courage here now and then. Brings all the children together. ❜
Though, that was doubtful. What use did a museum have for nobles, especially in a village like hers? Giving a shrug, she continues to move after him. When she noticed the tone of his voice, she also lowered hers to match, but she was slightly worried she was talking too much for whatever thing was inside the room. ❛ We’re here, right…? ❜
To be entirely honest, Messiah wasn’t used to people wanting to stay this close to him – there was one exception to that rule, and he did it so often that it was more annoying then welcome. Regardless, it was reassuring to know where she was at right now. When he was on edge with his cane ready to strike if they came across a malicious intruder? He didn’t want to risk bashing the young woman if she’d accidentally managed to surprise him.
“Fear is absolutely normal.” He says with a soft smile. “To feel fear means you value your life. It means you’re human – and that you want to live. There is no shame in fear. After all,” he pauses for a second – closing his brilliant amethyst eyes, before continuing: “For one to move forward, despite fear, is to be brave.”
Honestly, she reminded him a bit of a new friend he’d met. Someone who had been so earnest and kind, that he’d seemed like there was no way that he could survive. But, despite his fear, he’d done absolutely everything in his power to try to save everyone. He couldn’t leave anyone behind. He wouldn’t sacrifice others to save himself. That boy was busy right now – trying his absolute best somewhere else. That was why Messiah had had the time to take this mission in the first place. “Am I?” Messiah asks, laughing softly. He wasn’t one who thought that way about himself, despite all of this – but? “I’m truly glad you think so.”
He nods to show that he heard her though – in answering to both comments: He would warn her before he did something & he would be willing to just call her Isanami. In a situation like this, titles simply made communication more difficult. “Of course, Isanami. I can do that for you.” Of course, he was minimalizing their conversation a little now. Mostly out of concern for the fact that it could be people around . . . But, he would be careful that no harm came to his current companion.
“… property inspectors won’t come here.” He explains in a hushed tone. “Rumors of mysterious happenings have become rather famous in town. Some have claimed to have been injured in attempted inspections. That’s why I was called in.” It meant that HUMAN’s where more likely the cause then any ghost. But, it was the only way he could explain why the building owners had gone out of their way to hire a top-tier detective such as himself. “The rumors are so vivid and common now, that none will take the job. So? When they reached out to me – I figured I’d look into it before claims of injuries got worse. Or escalated.” To murders. If humans were involved, eventually they would escalate to try to get people to stop showing up in general. And that was why he was truly glad he’d found Isanami.
If she wasn’t part of these rumors - && it seemed likely that she wasn’t, there was a good chance that a young woman wandering alone would be a convenient victim for those who were here. “… yes. We have arrived now.”
With that, he falls silent for a bit. Listening through the door – It appeared the piano had stopped making noise now. They’d only heard it for a bit, and that was earlier, however? He still believed it likely that the piano was a mechanical one and that a power surge was the cause of the noise. However, that didn’t stop him from trying to listen in. Where there others inside of the building? The door looked as though it had been opened recently - he could see the movement in the dust. However, he couldn’t see the cause. Nor could he see footprints leading in. ‘… there are other entrances to the building. As well as large windows. I can’t rule out that people have entered elsewhere.’
With that, he looks at Isanami – putting a single finger in front of his lips to silently communicate to not saying anything for a moment, before he reaches into his coat pocket – it was convenient that they had the door a little ajar, after all: Otherwise this little trick wouldn’t work.
With that he pulls out a tiny hand mirror with a strange attachment settled onto it. Moving carefully to put it at the top of his cane, and then carefully using it to peek into the room that was their destination. With it, he could tell that the room had clearly been disturbed. Things were uncovered in the room, their dust covers were gone, and many priceless pieces were exposed because of it… however? As best as he could tell, the room was entirely empty of life. So? With that, he sighs a little, and pulls his cane back to himself, before smiling at Isanami. “Empty, for now. We can enter and look around.”
