parasocialism: when you think a public figure is more left wing than they really are because you personally like them
My love letter to the queer silver lining of 2020
A lot of revolutionary, unprecedented things happened in 2020 — that... goes without saying
But among all the chaos, one thing I can be grateful for was the surge of queer representation in western animation
I feel lucky to be alive in this time of change, and I’m also excited for the younger generation who gets to grow up with these explicitly queer shows
It gives me hope that this kind of representation will make it easier for them to figure things out :’)
Here’s to a safe, happy, and loving 2021, and here’s to being seen!! ❤️🌟
No I think the real test of queer groups being accepting is welcoming the most vulnerable among us, such as racialised queer people &/or transfeminine people. This perspective is endlessly frustrating and seems to rely on the idea of reverse-discrimination, as if queer people being hostile to cishets is a comparable bigotry to cishet hostility to queerness. There is no institutional teeth or stakes to queer hostility to cishet people; the same can not be said in reverse. hierarchies still exist amongst the marginalised & the brutalised and a cishet guy threatens none of those hierarchies because he’s at the top of all of them. really wish people would stop leaving stupid shit like this on my posts lol
Nothing exposes the inability of people to navigate power imbalances quite like the relationship between drivers and pedestrians.
For example, I just had a driver get screaming-at-me mad because I stopped walking at a slip lane to make sure he was going to stop. And like, buddy, I know I have the right of way, but if I assume you are going to stop and I guess wrong, I will literally die. Whereas if I wait to see if you're actually going to slow down, I am just delaying both of us by a couple of seconds. And that might have more to do with why I made the choice that I did than my being a stupid bitch who needs to learn the rules. Like, if you can't understand why the fact that you could effortlessly accidentally kill me (and likely face no consequences) means I am reticent to assume the best from you, maybe you just shouldn't have any power over anyone ever.
Honestly, one of my favorite things about GRRM's writing in asoiaf is how it turns the reader's bloodthirstiness against them.
Take Theon in ACOK, you are cheering in his final chapter because finally! Just desserts for that arrogant foolish bastard!
You read how the Bolton's have him captured in ASOS and say "Heh, good riddance".
And then... you read Reek chapters and with growing horror, you realize who is the person narrating. And suddenly, this need for payback, for him to face justice, doesn't feel that righteous anymore. No person should go through this.
The same goes for Cersei, her blaze of cruelty and scheming catches up to her when the sparrows imprison her. FINALLY, justice! and... you can only stare in horror and disgust at the walk of atonement scene. There is no vindication to be found here.

rereading GtN is so funny. harrow goes missing and gideon flies into full panic mode, spends her whole morning desperately searching, says "ugh I give up, she can just die", eats lunch and then immediately recommits to searching again, dissociates out of stress when she learns Harrow's blood is everywhere, breaks her vow of silence to try and get help for Harrow, nearly breaks her wrists trying to open the door in panic, sprints her way down to Harrow, finds that she's okay and is immediately like
haha. as if i even cared. whatever
