Since her death in 1979, the woman who discovered what the universe is made of has not so much as received a memorial plaque. Her newspaper obituaries do not mention her greatest discovery. […] Every high school student knows that Isaac Newton discovered gravity, that Charles Darwin discovered evolution, and that Albert Einstein discovered the relativity of time. But when it comes to the composition of our universe, the textbooks simply say that the most abundant atom in the universe is hydrogen. And no one ever wonders how we know.❞ — Jeremy Knowles, discussing the complete lack of recognition Cecilia Payne gets, even today, for her revolutionary discovery. (via alliterate) OH WAIT LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT CECILIA PAYNE • Cecilia Payne’s mother refused to spend money on her college education, so she won a scholarship to Cambridge. • Cecilia Payne completed her studies, but Cambridge wouldn’t give her a degree because she was a woman, so she said to heck with that and moved to the United States to work at Harvard. • Cecilia Payne was the first person ever to earn a Ph.D. in astronomy from Radcliffe College, with what Otto Strauve called “the most brilliant Ph.D. thesis ever written in astronomy.” • Not only did Cecilia Payne discover what the universe is made of, she also discovered what the sun is made of (Henry Norris Russell, a fellow astronomer, is usually given credit for discovering that the sun’s composition is different from the Earth’s, but he came to his conclusions four years later than Payne — after telling her not to publish). • Cecilia Payne is the reason we know basically anything about variable stars (stars whose brightness as seen from earth fluctuates). Literally every other study on variable stars is based on her work. • Cecilia Payne was the first woman to be promoted to full professor from within Harvard, and is often credited with breaking the glass ceiling for women in the Harvard science department and in astronomy, as well as inspiring entire generations of women to take up science. • Cecilia Payne is awesome and everyone should know her. Communism has never worked and to prove it we’ve bombed the ones that aren’t fascists about it. Aren’t you proud to live in the USA?

Apparently boomer Democrats are having meltdowns over a gen-z progressive who is primarying an 80 year old Democrat because she "went on trans podcasts" and wore a Charizard kigurumi

Think of the DRAMA

polyamory would not always fix the love triangle. sometimes it would make it much, much worse. but they should do it anyway

Everytime a cis women tries to argue against gender neutral language in medical settings it becomes very clear they care more about their comfort then trans men being denied medical care and dying.

I don’t care how ‘uncomfortable’ the terms person with a uterus, person who can give birth, person with breasts, etc. makes you. I very much care more about trans men having access to medical care than a cis person’s feelings.

The idea of the magic card "Swords to plowshares" is essentially that target creature rejects the way of the sword and becomes a farmer instead, hence you lose them as a combatant but gain the health from their farming.

This is really fuckin funny in conjunction with a lot of potential targets for that card. Can you just imagine you're an average farmer in an MTG plane, have a normal-ass day, and all of a sudden you look to the east, and stretching up past the clouds you see Ulamog, the despoiler, one of the infamous eldrazi titans, a creature that corrupts all that is good by its mere presence. And all the enormous bastard is doing is using their massive fuckin tendrils to plow the land and plant potatos, and tend to their flocks of eldrazi spawn, and then it turns its eyeless head thats the size of several cities at you and tips its wide brimmed straw hat at you and continues going about its work.

Went to a wedding with my boyfriend and my bestie/its other girlfriend

Was my first time

1. At a gay wedding

2. Presenting fem at a wedding

3. Experiencing ZERO dysphoria at a wedding

I used to get hella dysphoric; this was just an amazing time. So happy for the grooms; they’re good friends and board game buddies!

No new autism registry, HHS says, walking back NIH director's claim
STAT
The federal health department is not creating a new registry of Americans with autism, an HHS official said Thursday.

From Ursula Vernon: Screaming at these people works. They’re fundamentally wimps, we just have to actually DO the screaming instead of preemptively admitting defeat.

I am talking about my fellow Americans, not the Democrats. We actually need to scream, gang, not just complain that Schumer isn’t.

In other words:

A green dragon with wings outstretched mid-beat, flying over a field of grass, breathing a cone of flame down onto a wooden siege tower on the left of the page. An archer in a red tunic and yellow pants dives off the top, clutching his red ‘robin hood’ style cap with a yellow feather stuck into it onto his head. A spearman and two swordsmen in varying skin tones run away (described here from right to left); the spearman holds a wide hoplite shield above his head, protecting himself while pointing with the spear off-camera, directing his company to flee. One of the swordsmen flees with his arms in the air, sword and buckler flailing, while the other looks back toward the dragon, pointing their sword towards the dragon and holding their shield in front of their body. All the soldiers on the ground wear bronze breastplate, pauldrons, and shin guards, as well as red leather skirts to protect their thighs, and leather sandals to protect the soles of their feet. Behind them is a blurred background of a starry sky with a Waxing Gibbous over a forest on the left and a castle wall on the right. The fire from the dragon’s toothy maw splashes light and shadow; besides the cold light of the moon, it is the only source of light in this scene. The dragon has four legs and four near-black crest horns (three visible), emerald reptilian eyes with dark ridges around them, and a light underbelly. Its feet are dog-like, and its claws are as dark as its horns, made of the same keratin. Fins travel along its head and back, and then down to the tail, where it becomes its aerodynamic guiding rudder, running wide and down below the tail. His wings are wide, running well above the view of the page, cut off by the top.

An art trade with a sweet and dear friend, @an-unprofessional-artist : his character, the Dragon Knight, the protector of his queen’s kingdom. Soldiers come from another kingdom to attempt to capture it in the dead of night, but the wheel of fate spun away from their favor, and the Dragon Knight was awake to burn them down.
