lily evans, who everyone piles the highest expectations upon, and barty crouch jr, who everyone expects the absolute least from. lily, who is made out to be the model of this perfect daughter, perfect student, perfect friend, and barty, who is seen as this sort of caricature of a failure by everyone, even his own father. lily, who does not know how to deal with these pressures, and barty, who has his own twisted set of them that work in the other direction. they're two people who no one else actually sees as people, except the other. with the other, they can ditch all these stereotypes and pressures and expectations, and just be real-life humans.
Why can't they just like forgive the English? /sarcastic
The footage went viral and triggered a row about glorifying the IRA’s campaign during the Troubles that has left Ireland grappling with fraught questions about national identity, pride and history.
The controversy swelled when Celtic Symphony topped Ireland’s iTunes charts and people were filmed chanting the chorus at a Dublin airport pub.
Northern Ireland’s unionist leaders asked the taoiseach, Micheál Martin, to use his influence to curb the practice, calling it an affront to those injured and bereaved by the IRA. John Baron, a Conservative MP, told the House of Commons it marked a “low point” [sic] in relations between the UK and Ireland.[...]
The phenomenon coincides with the ascendance of Sinn Féin. Once an IRA mouthpiece with fringe support, it is now Ireland’s most popular party and appears poised to lead the next government.
A recent poll put combined support for Sinn Féin and smaller leftwing parties among people aged 18-34 at 73%. The party’s promise to fix a housing crisis and redistribute wealth has driven the surge, but many supporters also adopt the party’s defence of the IRA campaign. “As Sinn Féin grows, past violence is retrospectively endorsed,” one commentator, Newton Emerson, wrote in the Irish Times.
Opinion in Northern Ireland, where Sinn Féin has become the largest party, has shifted: in a recent poll, 69% of nationalist voters agreed with the party that there was “no alternative” to violent resistance during the Troubles – a reversal from 1998 when 70% of Catholics rejected republican justifications for violence.

Life is right now. While you’re waiting for your dream job, your future spouse, your goal weight, a new home, a change in appearance. Life is happening while you are working on mastering a skill, being in the unknown, not knowing which way to go, feeling stuck. Most of life happens in the waiting. Not in the achievements or successes which are nothing but milestones. Don’t wish the time you have away waiting for something that lives in the future. Look around. What does today offer that you might not want to miss?
blegh I hate that fanbases have simplified relationships in ‘shipping’ because I can’t find a lot of good analysis of aglaya and artemy’s relationship that isn’t “do you ship it?”
I have so many complicated feelings about aglaya and artemy and I think they care about each other in their own way, no I don’t think they are good for eachother, yes she loves him even if she’s manipulating him, no she does not love him she’s being manipulated by children, artemy might have a thing for milfs, I can’t call Aglaya’s sudden feelings for Artemy unrealistic because same, Artemy is driven by love for his family while Aglaya hates hers, do they have anything in common other that not liking the polyhedron? it makes no sense and all the sense. They live in an existential nightmare. Are feelings even real?

Но всё-таки будет лишний;
Роем тоннели, пока между нами -- стены;
Пулю, застрявшую в теле, достанем ножом --
Люди меняются, равно как мира картина;
Ты приезжай, удивишься, как всё хорошо,
Поскольку здесь будет
Покладистость
И дисциплина.
