This photo shows a roughly 15cm-long diamond squid (Thysanoteuthis rhombus) in an almost symmetrical pose. It was taken during a blackwater dive in about 15 metres depth off Kuramathi (Maldives).

Yoshitoshi came of age as an artist during Japan’s dramatic cultural transformation in the 1860s, after the country opened to international trade following two hundred years of isolation. Just as Japan struggled to reconcile a reverence for tradition with adaptation to the realities of the modern world, Yoshitoshi navigated a range of conventional and contemporary subjects in his prints.

Deer are considered to be the sacred messengers of Shinto deities, and are often depicted in mandalas, as seen here. A white stag rides on a cloud, symbolizing his role as a messenger between the earth and the gods. On Friday, 24 July, Mexico City approved a bill banning therapies that claim to “cure homosexuality in a historic vote with 49 in favor, 9 against and 5 abstentions.
The local congress also approved the punishment of up to 5 years in prison for members of churches, medical specialists and psychologists who administer violent treatments to “reverse” the sexual orientation of the members of the LGBT community.
