oooh, I have a prompt: Bones somehow learns that Jim was on Tarsus

It’s Pike who tells him.

Leonard has known Jim for over two years now and they’ve been inseparable ever since. He is a man of science, a doctor, he knows that nothing is promised in life. He has lost so much throughout his years - his father, his marriage, his daughter - but he has one certainty left.

It’s that Jim Kirk will be in his life one way or another.

Others must see it too, because one day Bones is called to Pike’s office, and Pike tells him.

“I know how important you are to Jim,” he tells him.

“I also know how important Jim is to you,” he tells him.

“That’s why I’ve decided to tell you something that Jim won’t tell you.”

And Pike tells him, “I’m only telling you so that you now, so that you understand him more.”

And Pike tells him, “You must never tell him you know.”

“What are you saying?” Bones asks, lips pressed together, heart beating fast against his rib cage.

“Jim was on Tarsus IV. Jim is a Tarsus Nine.”

Bones feels the world shattering around him, and yet when he opens his eyes again, breathless and cold, nothing has changed in the world apart from his perception of it.

That night, he doesn’t come back to his room.

He walks and walks, thinking so many thoughts at the same time that he can’t come up with anything, and his mind is like a storm and he’s in the eye of it, and everything around him is moving but he’s not really there.

Jim was on Tarsus IV. Jim is a Tarsus Nine.

It’s unfair, he wants to scream, it’s so wrong. Not Jim, not bright strong beautiful Jim.

And yet it makes sense, a terrible maddening sense. Jim’s fixation on food, the way he always makes sure everyone else is eating before he starts on his own plate, or how he has secret stashes of food, just in case, he says.

It explains the nightmares too, and the sleepless nights, and the heaviness in his eyes he gets sometimes, or how old he appears at times, drained and overcome.

That explains also Jim’s strength. Jim’s courage and unwavering sense of justice. His kindness, his softness also, hidden away under a carefree mask.

“I’m only telling you so that you know, so that you understand him more,” Pike told Bones and Bones understands Jim more than ever.

He also loves and respects him more than ever.

Bones comes back to their room as the sun rises.

“Where were you, man? I was worried sick. Oh, shit, are you okay? Fuck, what happened?”

Bones says nothing. He takes a step towards his friend - amazing and heroic - and puts his arms around him, and holds him tight.

“Bones?”

“I just need you to be here. Please.”

He can feel Jim nod, “Okay. I can do that.”

They won’t mention this again, but now Bones knows, and he understands.

Fic-Rec Tuesday!

Welp we survived another weekend here. The kids had sniffles Friday and by Saturday morning I felt like my soul had been shoved through a meat grinder 😬 I am now a functioning member of society once more but my partner is down for the count.

This weeks fan fic recommendation is Welcome to the Enterprise by IvanW.

Jim shakes Spock’s hand and accidentally bonds them. It’s got angst and chaos and reading it makes my heart sing. This is a work in progress so everyone should go and give Kudos and comments and help keep this wonderful author motivated. This story is soooo fun and Spock is just…. I want to shake the poor boy. He tries so hard and yet fails so hard.

The author has been working on this story for 4 years!!! They deserve so much love and I really hope you all agree 🖖

so i haven't been able to stop thinking about, if peter died, erik holding his body like michelangelo's pietà, which is the one where mary is cradling jesus' body after he's crucified. and it's literally one of my favorite things to see referenced in movies since it connotes kind of a mix of tragic loss of innocent life and a heroic death. and i just can't get peter draped over erik's lap like that out of my head.

I mean seriously. And the pinnacle. The Tum™. The tum is very important, and important that we stand up to the people who put him down for The Thicc, and say back the heck up here. Back right up. How DARE you. Let’s just all take a moment to love this bod, and love anyone who has this kind of bod, you are lovely and perfect. 

Let’s talk about this wrap now. This wrap is brilliant. The wrap is one of the greatest items of clothing from the 20th/23rd century. Look at how this is the absolute perfect thing to dress this man in. Look how flattering it is, how it shows off all his beautiful things. Thank you, William Ware Theiss, for this legacy. Im a big fan of a lot of ways Aos Spock/Uhura's relationship is portrayed in spirk fanfiction, however my absolute favorite i have just now encountered is:

Actually Uhura was raised on a federation colony where the culture around human kisses is more akin to a hug than a romantic/sexual gesture. It was a logical compromise for Uhura to show compassion to her friend in a way that was comfortable for Spock and her. Plus added bonus that it gave off the impression to earth-raised humans that she had a very possessive, strong vulcan boyfriend that prevented eager cadets from hitting on her (like Jim lol)

I mean the "Uhura is the embodiment of what Spock thought he needed in a bondmate, someone who is perfectly vulcan in a human way, but Jim lets him see that he needs someone who is perfectly human in a way that is the opposite of everything hes trained himself for" is beautiful and poetic but this version is objectively funnier.

Like, Jim, actually you are dumb for assuming Spock is in a relationship with Uhura based on one kiss even though that is exactly what they were expecting people to interpret their relationship as.

Fic Reccomendation

So this isn't for a pairing I ever, EVER, thought I would ship, but it was late last night (like 3am, hence my being off my head today) and I fell down some AO3 hole, and jesus this is so well written and amazing. YOU SHOULD READ IT.

Two parts. AOS AU where Kirk leaves Starfleet to be an architect and ends up falling in love with Spock Prime. I opened it for a giggle, and just woosh. Brilliance.
