Anyas walking through Edens halls when she starts to get really overwhelmed with all the thoughts of other people. This is normal, it happens often, except normally Becky is around to help out.
Today, Becky is away sick.
So Anya tries to find a calm place to stop listening to all the thoughts. Most of them are bad, talking about being jealous, or envious of students who are stellar students.
Just as she takes a step down some stairs, her legs give out and she loses balance.
Damian, who walks the halls as often as possible to assert dominance over other students, sees Anya, and launches himself at the bottom of the stairs. Anya falls in his arms unconsciously.
Anya only remembers waking up with Loid there next to her. Called in by the school nurse to take her home.
Master Henderson recalls watching Damian carry Anya on his back to the nurses office, telling students to get out of the way as he did so.

And they let him.
He allowed Ozpin to take over, to tell them the last things they’d need to know about the vaults, the relics, the war to save humanity.
And when the dust settled in Atlas, when the refugees poured out into the other kingdoms, he went with them, just one more body, lost among the masses.
He didn’t even tell them goodbye. But even through the numbness that gripped his soul, he felt a sting of regret when he thought of her face, silver eyes brimming with tears.
