Im gonna lose my fucking shit
OneShot should NOT have had the effect it did on me. I’m STILL here thinking shit like “I wonder if Niko told their mom about me?” And the fucking knockout punch of “I wonder if they all remember me still?”
LIKE GOD DAMN I’M CRYING AND I’VE ALREADY BEATEN THE GAME TOO MANY TIMES.

Dear follower, you may be interested in my matter. My name is Aya from Gaza. We went through a year of suffering, torment, bombing, siege, poverty, pain, and hunger. A year while we were in a closed cage, without breathing space, without food, drink, or any element of life to live in safety and peace. My children have become ignorant. They have no education, no health, no hygiene, and no life. They became homeless, lost and beggars. I don't have A source of money to feed my children and survive. We are a family of 15 people living in a small tent and suffering from hunger😭😭 Save the lives of my family and children and donate 20 euros🙏

I think Cedric and Calamus should be friends and join the club of teenagers with way too much weight on their shoulders because holy shit they deserve good things.
I mean, one of those small details that I always felt were kind of sad was that line Cedric has about not knowing Calamus or Alula... which makes sense in a way, because it was the Author who knew them better. And yet both Cedric and Calamus feel close in age and have similar personalities I am genuinely surprised they weren't friends.
And now considering their circumstances... Both of them need to be the proactive sibling, ready to react to situations that are beyond what teens like them should be doing.
We... never get told what happened to Rachis, although context probably tells us he was one of the NPCs lost to the squares. But even if Calamus and Alula were not aware of that truth, they're both still functionally orphans, and Calamus has made it his responsibility to make sure Alula is okay because she is all he has left.
Cedric is one of the few people aware of being in a simulation, and this by itself is already really isolating. Cedric is also the one responsible for... pretty much ensuring that Niko made it to the city and fulfilled their mission, having to make up plans as he goes. Not to mention the knowledge that his father is gone for good now, and the grief that is tied to it.
And besides all of this, I just really think that these two are alike in personality. Both are really polite, hardworking and responsible. The only big differences are their sets of skills and that Cedric is more willing to take risks on the spot, while I feel like Calamus would be more cautious in his place.
But gosh they could be good friends.
I don’t think people in the OneShot fandom are aware of The World Machine’s potential for body horror when it comes to their little hologram projection ability.
We still like oc content in the UT/UTY community, right? Like Oc x canon stuff? Too bad I'm sharing mine:
TW: Mentions of alcoholism
So, meet Gay Boy.
His name is Karis, pronounced Care-iss.
He's a type of Monster that I got the idea for in a dream, they're called Fiends, basically typical demon-esque type of monsters, big horns, sharp teeth, can safely be in really hot environment, all that, they even have tiny bat wings.
He used to be an engineer, a really successful one, too! He graduated high school and worked in the CORE for a while, originally doing boring paperwork stuff that he absolutely hated, but then went on to actually do engineering work, which he enjoyed much more, however it just wasn't really his thing. So, he moved on to the Steamworks! (Yes, his story is connected to UTY) This was his permanent workplace for many years to come, and he LOVED it! Mostly because his dream job was to me a mechanic and he got loads of that kind of work there, even invented the minigun in his spare time, but also because he had a FAT workplace crush. On Chujin. Ok pals here's where the oc x canon part comes in. Ever since high school, he's had the FATTEST crush on Chujin (see why I call him Gay Boy?) but, yknow, he kinda can't act on his feelings on account of Chujin being happily married, so he bottles his feelings up, after all, if Chujin is happy, he's happy! He's still a family friend after all, he'll be okay, if a little jealous.
Then Chujin dies. Oh boy then Chujin dies. He really goes off the deep end here. He's already been bottling up very aggressive feelings of love for years now, only for the person he was both pining for and genuinely good friends with to die, tragically, and the rest of the family fall apart soon after. He continued to bottle up his feelings, more and more, skipping work often to either stay home and drink, or go to a bar to drink, either way, he ended up passed out, only to wake up just as sad and repressed as before. It didn't help that he never felt like it was "his turn" to grieve, there were people closer to him, so he'd let them grieve before he could. It was never "his turn."
He has a soul trait attached to him, like if he had a boss fight, that being Patience, the thing that was ultimately his downfall. He never confessed when he had the chance in high school or fresh in the workforce, he never got it out while Chujin was still alive, and he never allowed himself grief after he died. He spiraled further and further until he quit his dream job, and moved to Snowdin, opening up a little curiosity shop where he'd sell the remaining things he made on the side during his career, and when he isn't at his shop, he's at home, drinking until he can't walk straight and can barely speak, only managing to sob.
Oh the things that come from never properly expressing your feelings when you had the chance.
Anyways uh yeah! I don't have lots of art of him or a proper reference, I'll make that later, so uhhh, take some assorted doodles of him
ok I keep seeing takes that shadow of the erdtree fumbled the hornsent because they made them too unlikeable and unsympathetic and enabled all those “total hornsent death” weirdos but I wholeheartedly believe that the writers have been portraying the hornsent sympathetically from the very beginning. like just because the story spends time on the darker aspects of hornsent society doesn’t mean that it’s arguing that Marika and Messmer were in the right? in fact I think it’s pretty obviously arguing the opposite?
some of the first sights you’ll see in the Shadow Lands are the scorched ruins, which are surrounded by hornsent grave markers — wooden stakes each with a horn affixed to it, horns being seen as sacred objects in hornsent society. the victims’ shades (by the look of them, ordinary people; farmers, merchants, and laborers) can be found wandering around the Shadow Lands and are often non-hostile; they can be found kneeling, weeping, stacking small stones, or clasping their hands in silent prayer.
there’s a courtyard in Belurat completely filled with hornsent graves, and it’s also the place where Queelign invades you… the sheer number of graves here is horribly sad, and the fact that Queelign attacks here even after all those people were killed honestly makes him seem like an absolute monster
just look at this menace. knocking over the graves of the people he murdered. shame on you Queelign
further into Belurat there’s a very small, missable room where you can pick up the Dried Bouquet talisman:
“A quaint bouquet of dried flowers, offered to a small grave. Raises attack power when a spirit you have summoned dies. The sorrow that flows from the untimely demise of a loved one is a tenderness shared by all, regardless of birthplace.”
this description is pretty directly saying like, “hey, these people are human beings just like you who grieved the loved ones they lost, who couldn’t sympathize with that?”
my personal favorite examples here are the scorpion stews, which are given to you by Hornsent Grandam after defeating Divine Beast and wearing its head:
Scorpion Stew: “Scorpion simmered in a black soup. Traditional meal of the hornsent. Boosts physical damage negation temporarily and gradually restores HP. Once made with love by a certain elderly woman for the family table. Having long gone cold, this soup gives off a rank, sour smell.”
Gourmet Scorpion Stew: “Scorpion simmered in a black soup. An exquisite dish chock-full of mouth-watering scorpion claws. Boosts physical damage negation temporarily and gradually restores a great amount of HP. The thoughts and feelings of the cook melt and blend into the stew, but those who can distinguish the taste of love are few and far between. "Partake, partake, until thou art sated.””
how can you claim that the hornsent are dehumanized when grandma literally cooks you a traditional hornsent meal made with love!!! how heartbreakingly sweet is that!!! especially with the dialogue you get from Hornsent if you share the stew with him:
“What’s this? Do you think me in need of alms? Ah… but this dish. Tis fare o’ the tower. I remember fondly this kin-clad scent. …Brings back memories I’d all but forgot. This, by my troth, is but a dismal copy. Indeed, I think it rather plain to see… things once broken can never be the same.”
we’re presented with the image of a delicious traditional meal that hornsent families used to cook and eat together, and then we remember, Hornsent Grandam is all alone, she has no one but us to cook stew for, and Hornsent has no family anymore to share his stew with.
before wrapping this up I want to mention Leda’s dialogue about the hornsent because I think it describes the situation pretty well (surprisingly well maybe, given what she’s like):
“Long ago, Queen Marika commanded Sir Messmer to purge the tower folk. A cleansing by fire. It’s no wonder the hornsent holds the Erdtree in contempt. That aside, man is by nature a creature of conquest. And in this regard, the tower folk are no different. They were never saints. They just happened to be on the losing side of a war. But it’s still a wretched shame.”
the hornsent were not a perfect society. far from it. but no society is perfect, and the hornsent need not have all been saints for what happened to them to have been wrong. no person has the right to act as judge, jury, and executioner for an entire civilization of human beings. if people want to take the very worst of hornsent society as representative of their entire population and argue that every single one of them deserved to die then I’m afraid that’s their problem, because the game absolutely does not agree with them
Yknow after doing chores and overthinking OneShot again I could easily say that TWM having a breakdown strong enough to almost destroy themselves because of their obsession of keeping Niko safe could be a metaphor for getting obsessed with someone out of idealization to such an unhealthy degree that any sense of conflict with them causes one to break down (of course all of this being the product of some sort of trauma)
It's why I don't like the idea/characterization that TWM is obsessed with Niko after Solstice because it wouldn't make sense. TWM is healing and thus has no need to have an unhealthy attachment
What if Bill Cipher is actually The King in Yellow in Gravity Falls' lore. Like think about it, The King in Yellow is a being that represents greed and a lust for power, isn't that Bill's whole deal?
Hiiii OP tell us about any underrated oneshot character you like. Give them some love.
THE WORLD MACHINE!! The World Machine. Not the fandom version that's just Niko but Depressed™️, but the snarky, sassy, clever World Machine we see in the base game. Everyone makes it being depressed it's main trait and it pisses me off! It's so much more than that, and I love it. No one gives it any love for how damn sassy it is in the normal route, it's so funny and the delivery of it's dialogue is so monotone yet snarky and it creates such a lovable character! I wish people would stop just treating it like a Niko reskin when it is so much more. It only even appears like that because it don't have a body, it doesn't even treat the Niko mirror image it uses to communicate in Solstice as it's body, it treats it like a sort of projection or puppet! It's so underutilized despite being the WORLD ITSELF??? And all people do is treat it like Niko 2: Niko is Nik-pressed, and treat it like a child, when it is are ANYTHING BUT??? Don't get me wrong I understand why people are attached to Niko and wonder what they're doing now but they're OKAY. Their arc is finished. They are happy and content. Who KNOWS what The World Machine is still like??? I love it SO MUCH it is my favorite thing EVER
I post for an imaginary audience and fucking LOVE OneShot and Inscryption.
