“This (ring) distracted me from you (ie: his Companions he was with) all day, shifting my gaze from it to you (and back again).” Then he threw (the ring) away. Reported by al-Nasāʾī, Ibn Ḥibbān in his Ṣaḥīḥ, Aḥmad on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with him) that: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a ring and put it on, Then he ﷺ said: (the above). Imām Ibn al-Jawzī رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ said:
“It is a must for each cautious and intelligent person to gather the supplies needed before his departure [from this life].
For he never knows when his hour of death will strike or know when his soul will be called back!”

Abū Dharr رضي اللّٰه عنه said: “My khalīl (intimate friend, i.e. Rasūlullāh) ﷺ commanded me with seven [matters]:
1. He commanded me to love the poor and draw close to them
2. He commanded me to look at those who are below me and not to look at those who are above me (in terms of worldly matters)
3. He commanded me to maintain the ties of kinship even if it seeks to draw away
4. He commanded me not to ask anyone for anything
5. He commanded me to speak the truth even if it is bitter
6. He commanded me not to fear the blame of the blamers
7. He commanded me to increase in saying: لا حول ولا قوة إلا باللّٰه , for this is a treasure under the Throne [of Allāh].”
[Reported by Aḥmad, graded 'Ḥasan' by Sheikh Muqbil raḥimahullāh in Al-Jāmi’ Aṣ-Ṣaḥīḥ]
Motivation is overrated. What you need is discipline.
Discipline doesn't require motivation, happiness, nice weather, cute hair, the right clothes, the latest equipment, that one inspirational video that will change it all. Discipline only requires you.
Discipline requires you in pieces, too: bits of you, bare minimums, daily littles, step by steps. Motivation is always calling up big moves, 3 A.M. transformations, Monday makeovers, bonfires that quickly sizzle; but discipline keeps you warm through the thickest winter.
Discipline only wants you in return. It's always you, and only you, over and over.

Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Some women requested the Prophet ﷺ to fix a day for them as the men were taking all his time. Thus, he promised them one day for religious lessons and commandments.
