trying to get back into drawing little comics. this is of Sebastian, an OC whose story i haven't fully figured out yet, but i know it's tragic
a few days later, I've embroidered the majority of the back panel. i still want to add things like shooting stars, more details on the luna moth, more stars behind the ferns, etc, but here's what I've gotten done:
I've also sewn on a moth patch that my best friend gave me a while ago - I've finally found a place for it!
and I've turned one of the front pockets into a cute monster mouth, an idea that i got from a patch somebody showed on Pinterest. instead of just a patch, it's a functional pocket! the teeth didn't quite turn out how I'd hoped, but i can clean them up a bit later
i might add more details to give it more of a body, and not just a mouth with disembodied eyes. if you have any ideas, please comment or leave them in the tags!
the latest things i've added are a panel on the inside of my vest under the collar, and some stars on the ends of the hood strings, both using the same blue flannel i used for the pockets.
i'll continue updating as i work on it!
for about a week now I've been working on a DIY vest. it's not a battle vest, but i am taking inspiration from some of the patch ideas and maybe adding spikes
here's my process so far:
(EDITED with image descriptions - thanks for the reminder in the tags!!)
i dyed a pale blue vest with one full bottle of graphite synthetic dye. it's still sadly a little blue, but it's dark enough that it isn't super noticable, so I'll live. if you have any questions about the exact process, ill answer them in the comments!
i then added two regular pockets after seam ripping the fake ones - why do they even put fake pockets on these - and two inner pockets using the shape of the upper pocket as a guide. one of them is embroidered with quotes from a post by turboennui on here about Laika, the first dog in space sent from Russia
then i added a detachable hood taken from an old sweatshirt, which is attached to the vest via six buttons. i get anxious when i don't have a hood on my clothes, so if i don't wear this vest over a sweatshirt, i still have the option to have more comfort
yesterday, i planned out and began embroidering the back panel. it will be a detachable piece of black fabric from an old button up shirt, connected only with safety pins so i don't have to commit to a theme and instead have multiple artworks to swap out. this one is a few black ferns and a pale blue moth (type undecided) atop a starry night sky background
if you guys have any ideas of stuff to add or embroider, or tips for making a denim vest in general, comments are greatly appreciated! ill post another update once the vest is finished

a little traditional drawing to get back into the swing of things. i don't draw as much during the summer - very busy, less motivation - but i also work on bigger projects instead. so in between working on a DIY vest, I've been trying to draw every now and then.
this was made with pencil and cheap, almost dried alcohol markers. the main gripe i have about the finished piece is that the head is a bit small, but that just comes with doing traditional art
There is so much here you'll have to look at it for yourself, but the climate policy alone is nightmare fuel.
The republican coalition wants to essentially end funding for green energy, dramatically promote and expand fossil fuel industries, and eliminate funding and regulations in all sectors promoting climate change mitigation. Task forces and offices related to clean energy and lowering carbon emissions will be eliminated and replaced with offices for promoting fossil fuels.
They want to LOG NATIONAL FORESTS TO "THIN" THE TREES TO STOP WILDFIRES.
THEY WANT TO FORCE OREGON AND CALIFORNIA TO LOG THEIR NATIONAL FORESTS AND TREAT THEM AS FOR TIMBER PRODUCTION
There are specific provisions in Project 2025 to essentially destroy the Endangered Species Act, causing it to defer to the rights of "economic development" and "private property." The plan includes delisting gray wolves, cutting the budget so that a "triage" system is used to determine which species will get protection, removing funding for research, removing experts and specialists from the decision-making process, and preventing "experimental" populations of animals from being established.
This is so much worse than I expected it to be and there's much more past that: They want to deregulate pesticides and remove much of the EPA's ability to regulate pollutants as well.
Also included in the manifesto is that we should
The manifesto comprehensively outlines the scorched-earth elimination of abortion access, down to ensuring doctors aren't even trained to perform abortions. There are plans in here to disrupt abortion access GLOBALLY, not just domestically.
Not only that, the Republicans plan on reframing family planning programs around "fertility awareness" and "holistic family planning."
I can't even describe it all. I'm trying to give screenshots of the most important things but there's so much.
The foreign policy is a nightmare. They plan to push fossil fuels onto the Global South and promote the development of fossil fuel industry in the "developing world."
It is aggressive and antagonistic towards other nations, strongly pro-military, proposing that we INCREASE (!!!!!) defense spending, improve public opinion of the military and military recruitment, and increase the power to fund new weapons technology.
Just read the Department of Defense section. It's about greatly increasing and strengthening the military-industrial complex, collaborating more closely with weapons manufacturers, removing regulatory barriers to arming our allies and to inventing new military weapons, and recruiting more people into the military. They include provisions to develop AI technology for surveillance. And of course, continuing to support Israel is in there.
Elsewhere it proposes interfering in foreign countries with creepy pro-USA propaganda campaigns, even establishing international educational programs where faculty have to pledge to promote USA interests.
There's a line in here about getting rid of PBS because SESAME STREET is LEFTIST for God's sake.

this took a few weeks of drawing on and off to finally finish, since the paper is i believe about 3 x 2 feet
i used a mechanical pencil for the sketch, which might have been the most time consuming part. in the sketch i messed up the perspective and proportion while trying to make it more dynamic, which i had to fix when i did the lineart (with tombow ink pens).
i did the shading in only a couple hours using greyscale alcohol markers. i didn't use the reference image for the shadows, because i wanted to be particular about the lighting
the final piece is still a slightly different angle than the original photo (of the Canterbury Cathedral, found on Britannica), and while it was on purpose, i still need more practice with the execution
i'm one week into making a fully customizable picrew with 6 skin tones (each piece has a separate toggle, so not every part has to be the same color) and 3 body types, as well as various facial features. i still have the mouths, eyebrows, hair, clothes, jewelry, and other accessories to go, but i'm hoping to make something for everyone
please keep in mind that i'm white - PLEASE let me know if there is anything you think i should adjust with the current features or anything i should add to future features! i'm doing my best but it isn't perfect, so i'll correct any mistakes i make immediately
this might take a while but will be free to use when it's finally up. i'll try to post updates every now and then, so comment or add a tag if you have any tips or requests!
(though i'd rather not do outfits or accessories based on real characters that belong to somebody else or somebody's franchise)
Link from BotW and TotK
the outfit i gave him is a combination of the gerudo outfit and the zora royal jewelry
this took me probably about 4.5 hours, on and off
here are the flats:
the rendering was tricky because i don't have a lot of practice doing realistic lighting - and especially not bottom-up cold lighting with warmer shadows, so i hope it turned out well
i'm back with another version of this ao3 skin! this time i've made a vibrant neon version. only use if you're fine with your eyes falling out. the image i used for the header is "Pattern Galaxy Space Planets Neon Universe" by Arncil on Redbubble

how to customize this skin:
FONT SIZE: at the very top of the code, change the "90%" to be bigger or smaller to change the font size within a fic
MAIN COLORS: to change the main colors, select "use wizard" when editing the skin and replace any of the four hex codes under "Background color:", "Text color:", "Header color:", and "Accent color:"
SECONDARY COLORS: find all hex codes within the code and change those numbers as you like! i changed all colors to match with the color palette of the header photo that i chose to make it feel cohesive
TAG COLORS: towards the end, the "relationship", "character", and "freeform" tags alternate three colors to make them easy to separate. in this skin they are all very similar, so you can change those to be whatever colors you like!
HEADER PHOTO: find the link towards the end of the code right before the warning tags and replace it with a link to any photo you like! it loops, so you don't have to worry about sizing or anything
FONT: i'm unsure how exactly to do this, but the in-fic font is currently set to Georgia Serif, so i suppose just go find that and replace it with your preferred font!
BORDER STYLES: wherever you see the code "border-style:", replace the word that comes after it with one of these options: none, solid, dashed, dotted, double, groove, ridge, inset, outset, or hidden
WARNING TAGS: at the very end of the code is a list of words or phrases that, when they appear in the tags of a fic, are highlighted in a contrasting color so that they are easy to avoid if necessary. you can add or remove those tags however you like, or change the warning color!

ART PROGRESS:
alcohol marker coloring improvement from September 2023 to April 2024 (6 month difference)
i now have a better understanding of how alcohol markers work and how to build up the color slowly to create depth and texture, and to prevent losing the lineart. i am once again more patient in lineart, shading, background art, AND coloring
i used lineart only for the subject - the dragon - allowing the background to consist of shapes to not be distracting. i used the texture of the markers to my advantage, creating a scaley appearance on the dragon and a cloudy one for the sky. i also used a white gel pen to add bright highlights and even more texture
ART PROGRESS:
greyscale drawing improvement from October 2023 to April 2024 (6 month difference)
while the first drawing is in graphite and the second is with alcohol markers, they are both in greyscale and focus on fantasy subjects. i have more confidence to draw backgrounds in general, and more creative inspiration: the first is based on a stock photo of a person holding a skull, and the second is based on various creatures and scenery from the video game Bloodborne. i pieced it together using my own imagination, only using reference for the actual design of the snakeheads
as for the shading, i have a better understanding of depth, lighting direction, composition (especially background / midground / foreground), scale, and lineart. i took more time and added tons of details and textures, making the piece feel more realistic and natural
ART PROGRESS:
lineart improvement from September 2023 to March 2024 (6 month difference)
i used the same ink pen for both of these (Tombow black brush pen)
i have become more patient with my lineart, and while this isn't an exact comparison (straight geometric lines vs. curved organic lines), i do think my line work looks more smooth and precise. the hatching has also improved drastically as i allow myself more time to consider each line. lastly, I'm leaning more into line weight, using thin lines for shading and details, and thick lines for emphasis and parts of the drawing that are "closer" to the viewer
this looks so cool!!! im glad you liked my base code! :]

first big polymer clay sculpture!
of Euphoria, my DnD character I've posted art of a couple times now
in the background, a wooden posable model that I painted and decorated a few years ago to look like Azazel, Euphoria's patron
i used a wire and tin foil base, which i covered with polymer clay. i created and baked the body in one go, then the head and horns separately so they could fit in the small oven. then i painted him, added yarn for the fur and hair, and gave him a staff to help him stay balanced. finally, i inserted the antler wires into the head and glued them on, and stuck the head onto the wire post i left on the neck, and secured it all together. it took about 3 weeks worth of art classes to complete
tormenting dragon
slippery snake...
i sketched this out and colored it with Ohuhu alcohol markers
i didn't spend much time on it, but im especially proud of the eye
a fool! i used sharpie and tombow pen to line and ohuhu alcohol markers to color
my DND character, Euphoria, the tiefling warlock
his appearance hasn't changed much since i first made him, whereas my first major OC went through major changes before i finally settled on something
i hope that means I've gotten better at character design!
a quick 40 minute drawing of my friend and i that i did after we had a very long week (ibispaint x on my phone)
Right, considering the current state of corporate politics on this site, and that it seems that only those affected seem to be actively speaking on the matter, it is up to I, the only fucking cishet on tumblr, to drag this out to a wider audience.
We need to show these higher ups how much we truly value them.
oil pastel rough drawing of a werewolf
three watercolor paintings i did a couple months ago!
i haven't used watercolor in a very long time because i always found it difficult and unpredictable, but i wanted to try it again. after trying painting a lined drawing first (not posted here), i tried again with these lineless styles, painting directly over my sketch
the style suits me much better. i love the way i can layer the colors to make them brighter and more vibrant. it also helps to use tube watercolor paints rather than the tray, so it's easier to mix like im used to with acrylics
overall, it feels similar to how i render digitally, building up colors especialy around the eyes
Maalik (the one with wings), and Samael (the one with horns)
Maalik was created by my best friend, while Samael was created by myself - matching lover OCs! i drew these with ink pen and Ohuhu alcohol markers
my OC named Samael! the one with the wings is Maalik, the matching OC my friend made with me. the OCs are gay lovers and i love them very much
Samael is big and intimidating (7 foot ish), but in reality very quiet and anxious. he is both touch starved and usually touch-avoidant
Maalik, on the other hand, is smaller (6 foot ish). he is expected to be calm and distant as an angel, but instead is energetic and excited, and very touchy
their contrasts complement each other and they fit together like puzzle pieces and i love them very much
Sans sitting (image) and Sans walkcycle (gif, not laggy just low framerate)
the animation is very simple and was my first test of the Krita animation features! i dont animate much, because i dont have a lot of practice with it and im just not used to spending so much time on a piece. but lately i did a couple Undertale animations to try to get back into it and they were very fun!
also im super proud of the style i did for the drawing of him sitting. the lineart is chunky and solid, and the highlights overlap with it to give an almost painterly feel, like in the rib area
sneak peek of my OCs on a size chart
I'll post more about them individually in the future, these are all just quick doodles of them
in order from left to right, here are their names and heights:
Edgar Meelow, about 14.5 feet
*Unnamed, sister* Meelow, about 15.5 feet
Euphoria, 5'6" without antlers, 8'4" with
NIL, 5 feet
Azazel, about 12 feet (TRUE height) or 6 feet
Button, about 3 feet
Azrael, 5'2"
Sebastian, 6'3"
credit: the original size chart (which i stretched out and edited a little bit) was made by "inthenameofSweden". i found it on Pinterest, but I'm not sure where it was posted originally if it was somewhere else
