The Ceaseless Grind
Working out some frustration in some design work today. I like this WIP alright enough, might try and find better elements to play with but it was at a point that I figured i'd share it. I normally just photobash or throw some elements I like into Affinity, do some blending work, color correct, and call it a day. Still trying to work on my own design work but drawing/conceptualizing images from nothing is a place in need of improvement on my end.
it's simple really: october is for horror movies with highly stylized villains and iconic monsters because they make for good costumes. early november is for gothic horror because of the fog and decay etc. late november is for zombies (commentary on consumerist culture). december is for psychological horror and stuff where they're trapped in a room because that's when you have to go to holiday parties with your family.
Making an audio drama is like "Oh, I like those voices in my head. I should make them kiss. Oooooh I should share this with other people."
Hello all! Auditions for DUSTWALKER are now open. Details can be in the Casting Call Club link above.
Auditions close on June 30th at 11:59pm CST. Please message me or drop a comment if you have any questions / concerns. Thanks!
Yaaaassss! Love it.
Inspired by our friends over at @dead-west-podcast we made a little mood board for ourselves.
Are you an extremely reliable, organized person who could use a little extra cash and currently has some bandwidth to pick up work? Do you have an ear for picking out great performances from several takes and a working knowledge of audio editing? Can you execute high quality work on a reasonably fast turn-around?
I'm currently looking for someone to sift through cast recordings of Starship Iris season 3, choose takes of each line, and cut those takes together into a vocal cut for our sound designer to work from. Pay would be $350 per episode, for 3 episodes (one of the three has most of the takes already chosen and notated on the script; that one would be more just about assembly). Prior experience doing this kind of thing would be a huge plus!
If you're interested and qualified, please email iriscasefiles at gmail with "Audio editor" somewhere in the subject line. Deadline is this noon this Sunday, the 15th of December 2024.
Signal boosts appreciated!
A very happy audio drama sunday to y'all. I listened to so much good fiction in the last few days, but this week, we really have to give a shoutout to the period pieces.
🧨 I know the creators of @224bbaker have talked about this before, but I absolutely love how, in the form of Fawx, Madge, James, and Archie, they've somehow managed to nail every possible interpretation of the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and Watson. And that's not even considering how they're doing Sherlock Holmes and Watson! The ways in which this show explores relationships is masterful, and kind, while all the while the stakes are sky-high even if you ignore the murders. Amazing. Can't wait for this next ep.
🪼 I was so glad to see the return of Mercy: A Queer Eldritch Western, which is also setting up a supremely good character dynamic between Sawyer and Gray. They are both so bad at people skills in their own special way, and it is a riot. Combined with the extremely good worldbuilding and some very scary jellyfish, I cannot recommend this show enough.
👻 Talk about being haunted by the narrative! If you're not listening to @dead-west-podcast, what are you WAITING for? Like imagine you are a guy trying to use his gifts to help people, but your gifts involve having to see your racist, probably abusive dad's ghost all the time. I'm going to be honest, this last episode had me considering a very important question: Is Dead West just Supernatural, but good? What if Supernatural was good? Yeah, go check out Dead West.
👞 What's uuuup Kingmaker Histories! This show is so good at keeping you on your toes. Sometimes it's Fat Tuesday and the gang is having a bad drug trip, and sometimes your friend is forced to explain his actions from decades ago because if he doesn't, he dies. I love the political complexity this story presents to the listener, which meshes so nicely with its fantastical worldbuilding. If Kingmaker is steampunk, it elevates the whole genre. It's beautiful.
That's it for me! See y'all soon!
