Holding onto Hope

This is another older piece, an art assignment for when the pandemic first started. Here, the hands represent the people on the front lines: essential workers and doctors. They are the ones holding the world together as it threatens to fall apart, even though there are people who actively work against them.

So I just finished working on this a few days ago! Since the comic is going to be set mostly on Homeworld and Homeworld locations, I needed to use Gem language for certain locations since English isn’t widely used on Homeworld, mostly just on Earth. But I didn’t want to put up random letters up on buildings and structure. And since Lady Sugar isn’t going to reveal that secret to us, I decided to do some research.

Thankfully, tumblr user @simplegeoffs managed to translate a good portion of the Lower Case alphabet so that was half of the work done for me. Not a lot of info on the upper case but through doing my own research and just straight up guessing (lol), I came up with what I hope to be a cohesive Homeworld Gem Glyph chart. I the true translations come out in the future then I’ll just write it off as “different universe, constants and variables, etc etc.”

As for an update on things: I’ve finished the outline for the first arc of the comic and I’m going to be working on sketching it out. I’ll give you guys an ETA as I progress.
