Thoughts On Moominvalley In November?

thoughts on moominvalley in november?

Moominvalley in November is truly a wonderful book I would recommend to fans of the series in general.

Though, to be honest, I came into the book with the impression that it would be a depressing read considering its oversimplified description by the fans, but I was very pleasantly surprised to find it was a book about a somewhat hilarious dysfunctional found family trying to make sense of the Moomin family's absence. While there are emotionally complex arcs and themes to these one-off characters (plus Snufkin and Mymble Jr) and these arcs touch upon themes that could be considered depressing, I think it's a rich experience in exploring these upset individuals who can't find comfort in the Moomins but instead have to find comfort within themselves and eventually learn to tolerate and even celebrate with eachother.

The characters' dynamics are enjoyable and often silly, and there are a few things to chew thoughts about, and we have descriptions and such that tell us a few things about the Moomins (or at least, Moominpappa and Moominmamma) such as the parents' separate rooms and how they represent each of their personalities and interests.

Overall, it becomes obvious why it's alot of people's favorite book in the series and it's a highly recommendable read if you have the access and time!

(same anon as before)

-PREPARE THIS ONE IS LONG-

Even though we all dislike the ending to some degree, BIA's ending still brings an interesting layer to the their relationship. It's a flaky plot-twist, sure, but we must not forget that:

a) Daffy isn't acting b) Most of Bug's reactions of/for/about Daffy must be genuine ( the inmediate ones at least)

So Daffy does want to leave for good (The stakes for Bugs are real), and Bugs does not believe Daffy is there just to highlight him(the emotional misunderstanding is real). He is actually surprised by this take, but unable to tell him how he feels. He can't go off script on in a meta, literal or personal level.

Uhm some other stuff, when Kate (the human co-star) and Bugs are driving on las Vegas, Bugs recognises Daffy by laugh alone. He looks up as soon as he hears it, Kate only hits the brakes after he is right on front.

They are all doing improv to some level. Daffy really had excellent timing for the joke, so Bugs really is just enamored with the perfect time Daffy came in. And Daffy in general

All in all, if Bugs orcheastated the whole bit, it means he really did all that to get Daffy on the movie, movie in which he praises Daffy constantly and goes far and beyond for…

At the end, the movie is for Daffy. Is Bugs VERY convoluted way of expressing his feelings without being direct or telling him to his face. funnily enough, this just bring back Bugs real issue, he can give the world to Daffy, but is it anything if he doesn't say so? works in meta too, the movie is fun, but the ending brings a lot of people a sour taste. and for some it ruins the experience.

TLDR: Uhhh...Bugs' gay, a menace, deserves the "least probable to open up about his feelings" award.

The shorts have always been in this weird limbo where it could be things happening to the Tunes in real time, we the audience are just there to witness it, or it’s actually a skit and the tunes exist as actors. sometimes the shorts don’t reveal it’s being filmed until a 4th wall break gag comes along and (kinda) changes the context of the short. I feel that Joe Dante might have risked the movie taking itself too seriously as “this happened to Bugs and Daffy outside filming” if it actually ended with Bugs and Daffy walking off into the sunset (hallway?) and so the ending we have was put in as “this was all a film ordered by execs and Bugs was in on it”. It doesn’t come as a surprise to me now and looking back it seems like a cop-out for the notoriously tumultuous experience of filming it anyways. Like a given up, hands in the air kinda “it was all just a movie. so there, the end”

It’s funny that although everything about the movie wasn’t “real”, the emotional conflict between Bugs and Daffy very much was, and that ends up being like, this entire movie’s saving grace jfkfjdhd

The fact that people think that Saiki is emotionless is so funny to me, because that’s the most dramatic guy you’ll ever see.

I wonder what happened with Tsukasa in this timeline? Why is the hole on his face? Why are his shorts and feet BLOODY?

right?? peak tbhk giving us more questions than answers lol I’m so excited to find out!!

I’m personally still operating under the assumption that the clock keepers changed something in 1968, which is when amane was trying to use the clock to mess with time in some mysterious way, so maybe they let him change in a way he was previously unable to? or in a different way than he did originally?

what seems to be true right now:

1. amane did not die when he was four

2. tsukasa still made some sort of deal with the god

so, operating under the assumption that something changed in 1968, whatever was changed then was after tsukasa made the deal to save amane’s life.

the backwards letters in tsukasa’s speech bubbles also imply to me he is way more god-influenced than the tsukasa we met in the red house arc!! this could be because kou and nene never went there to convince him to go back in this timeline?

but there’s something interesting you mentioned!! which is tsukasa’s appearance is very different here!!

I Wonder What Happened With Tsukasa In This Timeline? Why Is The Hole On His Face? Why Are His Shorts
I Wonder What Happened With Tsukasa In This Timeline? Why Is The Hole On His Face? Why Are His Shorts

he seems to be wearing the same shirt, but his suspenders and socks are gone, and his clothes are dirty. original red house tsukasa seems unscathed despite all his time there.

I think his clothes could be covered in blood, but they could also be covered in ash? maybe he was pushed back into the fire he set? why has the red house/the god stopped taking care of him? why is he in the school and not the red house? why was tsukasa originally spat back out somewhere in town and not on the property of the red house itself?

I definitely think amane got the clock to work and is responsible for this—I find adult amane incredibly suspicious!!

I Wonder What Happened With Tsukasa In This Timeline? Why Is The Hole On His Face? Why Are His Shorts
I Wonder What Happened With Tsukasa In This Timeline? Why Is The Hole On His Face? Why Are His Shorts

the watch he gave tsuchigomori is stopped, like the clock keepers clock originally was

I Wonder What Happened With Tsukasa In This Timeline? Why Is The Hole On His Face? Why Are His Shorts
I Wonder What Happened With Tsukasa In This Timeline? Why Is The Hole On His Face? Why Are His Shorts

and it’s incredibly suspicious he was talking to students about the tsukasa rumor with a reassuring smile on his face. this is hanako after all!! his calm, reassuring smiles are historically often untrustworthy!! (also in all honesty this is kind of a hope… I love when amane goes off on his own moral compass being a little unhinged)

the clock keepers specifically sent hanako back when he was feeling rejected by tsukasa and claiming tsukasa was an imposter, not his brother. maybe this is the future that happens when amane acts on that feeling, rather than how conflicted and forlorn we see him feeling about tsukasa in the original 1968.

it’s devastating, but I love the possibility that a past made through a boy’s grief and sense of rejection and pain has led to something like this… a more worn down, more haunted tsukasa.

I Wonder What Happened With Tsukasa In This Timeline? Why Is The Hole On His Face? Why Are His Shorts

is this who tsukasa becomes when amane doesn’t believe in him?

(honestly kind of hoping it’s something else though, bc it’s almost too sad to think of amane not believing in tsukasa, to the point of sending him back there…)

So, due to Saiki's manipulation, humans are stronger and more resilient than they otherwise would be. Saiki says that in his world, small people can defeat much larger opponents in physical combat, so it's not like this rule only applies to already strong characters. Kurumi is small and thin and can still effortlessly throw a table. Despite everyone's strength being multiplied, Kaidou is still incredibly weak. He can hardly throw a ball two feet and his punches feel like tickles. Would Kaidou have been even weaker if it weren't for Saiki's manipulation? His lack of stength is already significant by real world standards. Was Kaidou supposed to have chronic asthenia and/or a condition that causes weakness?

Okay, I gotta dig out my Society of Tinfoil Hattery credentials from the junk drawer for this one piece business, so strap in and get ready for some flow of conscious yapping.

And just to be clear: ELBAF SPOILERS

Okay, I Gotta Dig Out My Society Of Tinfoil Hattery Credentials From The Junk Drawer For This One Piece

Okay. So the triptych(?) mural. I’m gonna be very insufferable about the mural because that feels like THE center point of this arc. Not so much the poems, because as far as I know, the translations are still unofficial and I can give my thoughts on them then.

Okay, so, the first third. The “First World”

Okay, I Gotta Dig Out My Society Of Tinfoil Hattery Credentials From The Junk Drawer For This One Piece

We see people- we can assume slaves- coming out of complexes with machinery beneath and steam billowing from above. Is this a refinery? A power plant? A reactor, maybe?

We see these people go down deep, and come back up carrying something starlike that they bring to a crowned figure on top of the hill. Ore? Precious stones and metals? Some sort of fuel source? It looks the same as the stars depicted, so… nuclear energy?

We also see beneath the ground- perhaps hidden?- a winged figure (sky islander?), next to a very large ship with animals trailing towards it (Noah??) pointing skyward (to the moon???).

Above the crowned figure at the top of the hill, we see a ship in the sky sending a lightning bolt to the feet of the crowned figure and towards the roots of the tree centerpiece (Uranus? Something like the Ark Maxim and Enel?)

And the central piece to the first world portion of the mural… this “Serpent of Hell” coming up from beneath the earth where the slaves are going down into getting into a conflict with the bird-like creature at the top of the second world’s tree (Nidhogg and Hraesvelgr imagery? Who would be the Ratatoskr of that?). It seems from the fire the two are spitting at each other, that the whole world has become enveloped in war and- if the bit about the Earth God becoming enraged is translated correctly- rendering it uninhabitable (the reason why the sky islander is taking the animals to Noah? The reason why the sky islanders went to the moon to begin with? Was the land irradiated?)

Okay, I Gotta Dig Out My Society Of Tinfoil Hattery Credentials From The Junk Drawer For This One Piece

This one is the most dicey for me, but bear with me.

The Second World is a tree with the Hraesvelgr-esque figure perched at the top, warring with the Nidhogg-esque figure going down into the earth beneath the roots. We might assume, though I’m not exactly certain about it, that this tree could be symbolic of this eight hundred year reign of the world government? Its branches don’t stick out very far from the trunk, so this could just be to keep the image from being cluttered, just something that wasn’t thought about, or because the tree is giving shade to only a select few.

This Hraesvelgr looking beast seems to have won the conflict with the Nidhogg one. So the Nidhogg beast might have been symbolic of a rebellion coming up from where the slaves toiled away? (The x marks on the serpent’s sides do make me think of a certain tattooed someone with a certain ophidic moniker with certain unsavory opinions on the Celestial Dragons…)

Okay, I Gotta Dig Out My Society Of Tinfoil Hattery Credentials From The Junk Drawer For This One Piece

And then we see the last portion of the triptych. Nika leading the charge with an army at his back against a winged demon holding the sun.

I see Nika and Imu (or maybe even Teach…) depictions here, obviously. I see a whale with two people on it’s back (Laboon, Crocus, and that one dude who was drinking with him that one cover art (that might be the man marked by flames))? I see a Lunarian (King and/or the Seraphim?). I see Emmet. I see Dogstorm and Catviper. I see Shirahoshi and the Megalodon. I see Leo. I see Loki! We see several ships, too! All of these people fighting against one big demon and one tiny ship with just a handful of people. The world has turned on the powerful few.

In conclusion… I think this is a sort of history-prophecy thing like with Alduin’s Wall in Skyrim. These aren’t “worlds” per se, but Ages. It just gives that illusion because it feels like how humanity speaks of bygone eras as totally different worlds. I think this is the Void Century, Imu’s reign (specifically Imu, because clearly something or someone was calling the shots before them. Perhaps the Nerona were ruling? And Imu formed the alliance of the 20 Kingdoms when the Nerona family was being threatened by this “Serpent of Hell”? Maybe Imu was the only survivor of their line and refused to let go of their power?), and Imu’s downfall respectively.

I… really don’t think Nika brings the end of the world. I think he just brings in a new Age.

I’m going to go on my “Imu is an eternal child” soap box when I say that I think Imu is embodying a sort of foil to Nika (a moon god/dess mythical zoan, maybe?). Both Nika and Imu seem… childish to me. Nika is all the positive things we associate with childhood. Play and laughter and imagination. While Imu… Imu is all the negatives. Selfishness and moodiness and “I’ll break my toy so I don’t have to share it” mentality. You get what I’m saying?

Again, this is by no means a comprehensive thing. This purely just me spitballing things.

Thoughts are absolutely welcome.
