i dont know when it happened but somewhere along the way “shipping” got a new meaning for younger folk that seems to translate to “i want these people together for real asap”. i think the media had something to do with it. but guys.

shipping absolutely Does Not mean demanding anything from people/creators. shipping isn’t about expecting and waiting for the day it will certainly happen. it is not a direct translation to Happen Or Die.

shipping means you like the idea of two (or more) people together. you like the concept. you find it fun to imagine the dynamics. you even create fanon content of it (fic, art, edits). it’s all in your head and it’s Fine that way.

is it nice to have a ship become canon? oh my god, yes. but that’s not what shipping is about and yall need to take a step back and breathe because being a jerk to people aint gonna change their mind about ships.

FIRST OFF, this isn’t an essay or anything. Like, I am very annoyed by all the stuff I keep seeing in the tags and the fandom’s version of events as a whole; but at the end of the day it’s just fiction so I’m not about to type up a full dissertation and MLA format it just to rant about marvel. So, this is going to be stream of consciousness-ish; bare with me and strap in. At the end of the day, we’re all entitled to our opinion, even if we don’t agree. Aunt May Appreciation Post

Let’s talk about this scene

It really spoke to me, because usually the job of teaching a boy to tie a tie is left up to the father figure. Peter’s parents are dead, and Ben died the year before. Ben would have taught Peter to tie his own tie for homecoming, had he still been alive. This means the job was left to May. As we can see she clearly doesn’t know how to tie a tie, and in true modern day fashion turns to videos on the internet, but get this. She’s learning to tie it with him. I repeat. Instead of putting the video on and letting him have at it, she’s also learning along with him.

I appreciate Iron dad and spiderson as much as the next person, but I think we often forget that May was forced to transition from aunt by marriage, to mother figure. Then when Ben passed, she took on the role of being an aunt, mother, and father to Peter. She’s raising a teenage boy all on her own.

Half of both her and Peter’s support system is gone, and she manages to keep on like a trooper, while still supporting Peter.

She truly is an amazing woman who deserves such love and recognition.

We larb you too Aunt May.
