Also on changing characters' sexualities and gender for headcanon purposes, next you're gonna say im being heterophobic for shipping a straight character in a gay pairing.

Its the same logic, and sounds just as stupid.

Sometimes you just want to see your favourite thing in a different font, it doesn't take away from the original, it adds more things to love. Let characters be complex. Let people love characters in their own way.

How can you be a "transmasc Vi/Cait truther" (or whatever it is) and at the same time say that you love lesbian characters? Like you change the gender of canon lesbians to make yourself feel good about being trans, if you do that then I assume that you do not in fact love lesbian characters because you are unable to respect their identities without making them men (or attaching masculine labels onto them).

i absolutely love lesbian characters and i don’t usually attach masculine labels to caitvi. if you look at my posts, I’m usually referring to both of them with she/her pronouns, my fic about them used only she/her pronouns for both of them, etc.

however, butch lesbians exist. transmasc lesbians exist. i’m not doing this to make myself feel better about being trans (i’m genderfluid so idk), I’m doing it because it’s fun and because i can. i respect lesbians a lot. sounds to me like you’re the one who struggles to respect lesbians who don’t fit into your personal definition of what a lesbian has to be.

vi using she/her and he/him pronouns, caitlyn using he/him and they/them pronouns, that doesn’t make caitvi not a lesbian relationship. whatever your “lesbian purity” thing is that you’re trying to do here is kind of silly. at the end of the day, the labels we use are made up and they are as restrictive as we allow them to be. i don’t believe that gender and sexuality labels have to be restrictive, so i make caitvi he/him lesbians.

i hope you can enjoy your versions of characters and learn to let other people enjoy theirs.

You don’t call strangers sociopaths for having opinions, that’s ableist, and villainizes mental health issues/disorders. Beyond the point you have no grasp on what it means. You don't go calling kids ignorant for their age when you respond to media analysis with direct hatred to the person writing it. That's worse. You lack emotional regulation, go get some before you get down to the fandom playground. There will always be people of all ages, all contexts and all opinions here and everyone could deal with a lot more respect than this.

In all your mighty age you should've learned how to respect someone without needing to agree with them for it.

Do some soul searching and maturing on your own behavior before demanding that of others.

I can’t stand CaitVi

I’ll never like Caitlyn or her and Vi’s relationship. People like to say “oh you just can’t handle complex characters” or claim lesbophobia/misogyny when you criticize their ship or Caitlyn as a character. Like no bitch I just don’t like her as a person and think Vi, despite her mistakes and wrongdoings, deserves way better than Caitlyn 😭 also I am a lesbian so wtf

Also I raise you this:

Caitlyn is not a complex character at all. Maybe in season one she was, cuz you had to dig a little deep and really pay attention to understand her motivations and what drives her to act the way she does and make the choices she makes.

But in season two, however, it not hard to understand why she did what she did. I know why she gassed parts of Zaun and why she went after Jinx, and I don’t like her!

One thing I don’t understand is why Caitlyn hit Vi after Vi didn’t let her take the shot. That’s the main thing that makes me a Caitlyn/CaitVi hater. To me, Caitlyn had no logical reason to hit Vi that would’ve made me go “ohhh okay, I understand”.

People like to justify Caitlyn hitting Vi by saying “it was one time, it’s not abuse!” As if they wouldn’t leave their partner if they were hit, even if it was once. As if they wouldn’t be encouraged to leave the partner who hit them.

Saying “she was frustrated, she was upset” is still completely fucked because what happens when she gets frustrated again? Is she gonna resort to physical violence once more? People who hit others when they’re frustrated fall into a pattern of doing that when there’s no one to stop them, don’t they? 

I get that her mom died but come on, girl. She was raised with damn near all the tools one could need for processing her emotions, and in this moment, she chooses to hit the woman she supposedly loves in the stomach with the back of her gun. And her dick riders will still say that CaitVi isn’t oppressor x oppressed, like oh okay!

Vi put on the uniform of the people that killed her parents, threw her and jail and oppressed her people for years and Caitlyn never took off the uniform for Vi, but it’s not oppressor x oppressed? Vi never raised her hand against Caitlyn once, not even when she was frustrated, and Caitlyn seemed perfectly okay with hitting Vi, what, three times, but they’re not oppressor x oppressed? Caitlyn also threw that boat in Vi’s general direction the second Vi said something she didn’t like, but y’all like to gloss over that because it’s something small. Idk about y’all but I don’t throw things at people I love when I get mad!

And then, you know what really takes the cake for me? The fact that Caitlyn apologized for/brought up sleeping with Maddie out of all the fucking things in the world. She didn’t apologize for hitting her or leaving her, just for sleeping with Maddie. Does none of that other shit matter to her?? Idk I just thought that was fucked. I think their whole relationship is fucked, and I think the only reason they’re even together is because Cait was the first person to show her kindness in a long time and she got attached. Add on the fact that they went through something traumatic together that brought them closer and there ya go, there’s CaitVi. I’m sure there was real love there at some point, and they were physically attracted to each other but idk, after Caitlyn asked Vi to become and enforcer knowing that those people killed her parents and practically ruined her life, that made it clear to me that Caitlyn no longer cared that much about Vi and was more focused on what Vi could do for her.

And don’t even get me started on that godforsaken jail sex scene. That was beyond gross and inappropriate for the context of the whole situation, AND considering Vi’s history with prison cells. Genuinely what the fuck.

So yeah. I heavily dislike CaitVi, don’t like Caitlyn either. TimeBomb has my heart, I fear (I am well aware of their flaws so don’t be in my comments talking about how they beat each other up. I know. At least it was mutual and at least they had a reason to be fighting. Just saying!)

We all know the “jokes” about how old bronies either came out as queer or became fascists - except they’re not really jokes, and a lot of the queer ones admit to having been in the pipeline before they came out (some in a way that implies they never totally got out of said pipeline and don’t understand the gravity of it),

GamerGate was an entire right-wing reactionary movement that was - and this is not hyperbole - partially responsible for turning fascism into a “legitimate” position by the American Overton window, composed entirely of people who feared losing their fan spaces,

We’ve had terfs right here on tumblr dot com BRAGGING about how useful fandom is as a recruiting space,

TJLC was a big pipeline for acephobia on this hellsite in particular, when people argued that headcanoning Sherlock as ace was inherently homophobic because it was denying a TOTALLY GONNA BE CANON (while the creators were promising that it wasn’t going to be canon) gay pairing, and puritanical, and just HAVING that headcanon was saying that people COULDN’T ship Johnlock, all in the interest of a “fake” sexuality and “pretending to be oppressed” and oh whoops there you went,

We see people who all but center their fandom activity and identities around figuring out which people in predominantly queer fandom spaces are SECRETLY PEDOPHILES AND GROOMERS, acting consciously or otherwise under the assumption that predominantly queer fandom spaces are just massively infested with them in a way that other spaces are not for SOME reason, who twist the definition of “pedophilia” in these spaces until it covers shipping a 17-year old fictional character with an 18-year old fictional character, or a 30-year old with a 45-year old, or including an autistic character in a ship, and drawing two 17-year old characters kissing constitutes “child porn”, and who unironically say we should bring back the Hays Code and Censorship Is Good Actually And Our Problem Is We Don’t Do It Enough and this often becomes a pipeline to “sex ed is child abuse; people shouldn’t even know what sex is until they turn 18; you need my consent to wear certain outfits in public if I see them as sexually charged, and Pride SHOULD be an assimilationist sideshow for our corporate overlords family-friendly party with no sadness or anger or ESPECIALLY acknowledgement of sex allowed”,

We’ve seen otherwise progressive people defend literal hate symbols in fanart when pushback against the above brand of reactionaries gets corrupted into zero-nuance “it’s us vs. them so anything they don’t like is Good”,

Even outside of those examples some of the most vicious, unapologetic, blatant queerphobic abuse I’ve seen in recent years hasn’t come from right-wingers but from LGBT+ people, dressing their deep, violent, seething hatred for queer people who aren’t exactly like them in a thin veneer of progressive language, who have become so convinced that they’re the main character of the fucking universe that they think writing or enjoying a queer story that doesn’t resonate with them is more queerphobic than sending a queer person who writes or enjoys such a story countless rape and death threats and denying their identity,

We’ve seen these examples again and again and again, and we keep seeing it again and again and again, so I am once again on my knees BEGGING people to recognize that this is not Something That Happens To Other, BAD People, or Something That Happens To People In BAD Fandoms, or Something That Happens To People On The OTHER Side Of Perennial Drama; this is something that CAN happen to you.

These things are the result of the fact that fandom is, by nature, a place of heightened emotion and if you don’t know what to look out for that is very exploitable; you need to know the methods people use to do this, simply Being In The Right Fandoms or Liking The Right Ships is not enough.

So, if you see someone trying to convince you that you have the ONLY valid approach to any specific character, or ship, or show, or whatever, that your ship is activism and your fanfics are praxis, and liking something else or liking the same thing differently is Only For Bad People, that is the single biggest red flag that YOU NEED TO RUN, THEY’RE TRYING TO SELL YOU SOMETHING THAT YOU DO NOT WANT
