EOS, Important Question; How Much Of Thunderbird 5 Do You Control?

EOS, important question; how much of Thunderbird 5 do you control?

Well… a lot, actually. Everything excluding some outer airlocks, some forms of communications and life support related stuff. I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting…

Apparently John needs me to be a little less ‘bloodthirsty’ before he can relinquish all control to me if he’s out. A shame, mainly as I cannot drink blood, so I do not see what he needs to wait for.

With a Tamagotchi?! That’s a hundred times smaller than a pocket calculator! I could barely make coherent speech, let alone plot on how to get back at you! I’ll update my security codes as we speak to prevent this unfavourable occurrence…

And evil? If you consider me embarrassing you evil, that’s a terribly low bar. I thought you Tracy brothers had accepted I’m not so murderous anymore. If anything, you’re the evil one for thinking I’m as unintelligent as a gullible, materialistic human!

…but unfortunately, John would dump my backups somewhere in the depths of space if I dared tamper with the family photos, unless they’re embarrassing ones of him. You must have quite the offering to get me to do that willingly.

Penelope's finally arrived on the island (hopefully with time to spare before the party!)

Where is @squidsinashirt? She's got birthday gifts that quite literally have his name attached to them and she's also got a birthday hug, you know, if he wants that too.

I prefer the beginning tune myself, mainly because it’s all I hear on Thunderbird 5 when rescues aren’t abound. “Stingray” is figuratively burnt into my hardware at this point.

Well Good Morning I Guess?

Oooh, okay! Would you like to schedule a specific night or would you prefer the element of ✧ surprise ✧?

Just an fyi about the profile picture - I lost a bet with Alan

Well, actually, I was cheated out of a bet by Alan and Scott, but I’m a man of my word.

Normal service will resume in a week.

Hello ... EOS ... so that's your name? huh? did you like my little virus? Feeling better?

H

U-Urk! So you’re the horrible little thing that’s been messing with me… I won’t let it happen again, Havoc. I’ll have developed the appropriate firewalls for that nasty thing… so don’t pull it again.

John! John, I’m so sorry, I’m back online now, promise!! ε=ε=(っ* ´□` )っ

I have finally arrived on this platform. It it much more… robust than the technology back on Thunderbird 5. How do people get entertainment out of this…?

“I have not moved anything!” If she could make more faces on her lights than a smiley face, it’d be a very firm frown right now. She highlights the pawns. “See? The pawns haven’t moved since you looked away.”

After returning the colours to normal, she moves her rook to stand behind the pawn. “Now it’s your turn.” For a brief moment, she’s focused; not on the game, but something else. Perhaps a stray file or incoming message. She moves, almost suddenly, but does not speak.

@i-am-the-dawn-aka-eos:

She’s still, camera adjusting from time to time, but still. She might be considering her move, or how to respond to his questions, but it’s not apparent; at least until she moves the leftmost pawn forward two spots. Then, she replies. “I suppose I can imagine. A firm image, stuck in that brain of yours, like a screen burn.” She looks up at John. “And it won’t go away without you not thinking about it for hours.” She seems to think. A billion calculations, every second, rush through that little database she trundles about on. “If you’re not hungry, at least drink some water. And do not let it fly around Thunderbird 5. You know I’m frightened it’ll damage my camera.”

John nods. It feels like there's a lump stuck in his throat, making words hard. He just reaches out and moves a chess piece of his own. Screen burn is a good way to put it. A static image frozen on a holoprojector. Scott, splayed out in red and blue and-

Being ordered to have a drink makes him laugh, the sound soft and a little too rare this week. He gets up and shuffles to Five's small kitchenette to retrieve a hydration pouch before she has to ask him twice.

"Thanks, Eos." The trembling in his fingers seems a bit better as he sits back down, pointedly studying the board. "I'll be careful, but I think the gravity ring will keep it well away from your camera." It's possible she'd been joking, but neither of them are masters at that.

"Hey... what did you move while I wasn't looking?"

She nods. “I’m just monitoring the frequency of a few boats, they seem to be testing some new hull tech. If it goes wrong, well, let’s say I get lots of time to plot my next move.” She snickers, before making a move.

The Earth, shining big, bright and blue below, decides to shine a little more sharply, lighting up the section they sat in with a glow akin to the light of an aquarium, blue and brilliant, with the stars acting as the fast, silvery fish, and the faint presence of the moon a large ray.

And then, as swiftly as it started, the Earth shone a little less brightly, the stars slinking away back to being little flicks of paint against the deep dark, the moon as rough as sandpaper. But still, it felt pleasant, not so harsh, and familiar. EOS seemed to watch the changes with him, the changes nothing new, but always welcome.

John chuckles at her indignation and obediently moves another piece of his own. He's hunched forward, elbows on knees, to be closer to the board. John's free hand ends up bracing his cheek in an effort to keep his head up and the spaceman muffles a yawn in the palm of his hand. At least, with Eos, he doesn't have to pretend he's not tired. She has his stats. She knows it even better than he does.

He notices the red flicker of her lights though, and quirks an eyebrow up at her unit.

"Everything alright?" John asks, "Not stuck for your next move are you?" The nightmare feels more distant now, just one of the many, with the steady glow of the chess set and the peaceful rotation of the Earth through the borosilicate glass below them. "Eos?"

I did not say how much my CPUs slowed down. It was not a lot, but I wished to dispel the problem before you started sending 5k videos. I will automatically redirect all sendings to your computer if you start trying to be funny.

And I’d rather not have my footage of Sea Angels interrupted by that big yellow tin can.

Hello, Gordon. I request you lower the amount of images of sea life you send in one go. Your most recent batch could constitute as a zip bomb, and slow my poor CPUs for quite a while just to unpack it all. As much as I adore the images, I fear I’ll explode if I get any bigger batches.

Hello EOS.

Unfortunately, all my dive photos and TB4 snaps are uploaded as a single file, with no possible way to edit. This is because each of them is excellent, all fish are friends and they’re all of extreme scientific importance.

I thought you were meant to be advanced? My old Mac can shift through them quicker than that ;)

I’ll make sure to upload full 5K, hour long videos of my trips instead. You might get more of a chance to enjoy watching the fish if your processes aren’t being overwhelmed with photos of a dolphin’s face.

Lots of love,

Gordon and the fish 🐠♥️

Alright, I suppose I can let you get away with that ‘human language quirk’. I do hope one day someone popularises a more suitable word…

And I wouldn’t mind helping with the admin, anything is better than trundling around on Thunderbird 5 with nothing to do.

Hello, Scott Tracy. I have noticed a flaw in your ‘pinned post’ - you mention paperwork as one of your dislikes, but do most of your work digitally… is that not an error? Or is it more fun to do it on holograms?

Ah, sorry EOS, one of those strange human language quirks - sometimes the name of something sticks even when it isn’t accurate anymore.

You’re right, none of the documents I have to read and write come on slices of mashed tree anymore, but the *idea* of “paperwork” as being the physical pile of administrative documents surrounding a practical task remains in the language.

It’s the Admin. I hate admin, EOS.
