Megumi fushiguro x reader fluff!!
Drabble in the rain.
The rain had only been a faint drizzle when you and Megumi left campus, hardly worth noticing let alone taking out your umbrella. But as you both continued walking, the sky darkened, clouds rolling in like a heavy blanket over the city, and the drizzle transformed into a full on downpour. Droplets of water struck the pavement with rhythmic taps, filling the air with a fresh, earthy scent that followed every storm. Luckily, Megumi had remembered an umbrella, even though it was barely large enough to keep you both fully dry.
Megumi walked with his head slightly down, his shoulder brushing against yours as you both attempted to stay under the small umbrella. He seemed quiet, even more so than usual, with a hint of tension in his shoulders. You glanced at him, half-wondering what was going through his mind, but he avoided your gaze, focusing intently on the ground.
For Megumi, rainy days have always been an annoyance. Not only did the downpour dampen his mood, but it also affected his shikigami. Summoning them under rain-soaked skies always felt like a gamble. His demon dogs especially were nearly useless in the rain not because they couldn’t perform, but because they were constantly distracted by it. The moment he summoned them, they’d perk up at the raindrops, sniffing the damp air before running around at insane speeds.
No matter how focused Megumi tried to be, the dogs would inevitably start jumping in puddles or chasing the steady drips from overhanging branches. He’d have to shout at them, trying to pull their attention back on the task at hand, but it was like yelling at a pair of stubborn kids who couldn’t resist the temptation of splashing around in the rain. And in battles, it was even worse iif there was the slightest break in the action, his demon dogs would forget about the fight entirely, diving back into whatever small pools of rainwater they could find.
Every so often, your hand would brush against his as you both adjusted yourselves under the umbrella. Each touch made his heart skip a beat, and he felt flustered, uncharacteristically nervous.
When he glanced sideways at you, you were gazing up at the rain falling around you, and he could tell by the faint smile on your face that you were enjoying the cool drizzle on the arm that was slightly exposed to the end of the umbrella and he found himself focusing on every detail how the raindrops glistened on your skin, how your expression seemed so peaceful.
You suddenly turned your head, almost as if you knew he was watching you. As you caught his gaze, you gave him a mischievous grin. “Megumi… will you summon your demon dogs? Just for a bit?”
He blinked, taken aback. “You want me to… in the rain?”
“Yeah!” you replied, the excitement in your voice quite obvious. “You might not like getting wet but they’d probably have fun, right?”
The both of you stopped in your tracks. He looked at you for a moment, his mouth opened ready to argue about the dogs’ tendency to get sidetracked in the rain. But then he gave a small, resigned sigh, realizing he couldn’t deny you.
With his hands clasped together and a murmur, the shadowy forms of his demon dogs appeared beside you, ears perked and eyes bright .Quickly recognizing that there was no threat in sight and it was just you and Megumi, they quickly started circling the two of you,
They quickly looked around, a little hesitant at first, sniffing the air with caution, but the second they felt the rain on their fur, their demeanor changed. They jumped excitedly, darting off into nearby puddles, kicking up tiny strings of water as they splashed around.
You laughed in delight, immediately crouching down and calling to them. They padded over, tails wagging, allowing you to pet them, Megumi watched you, feeling strange. You were so gentle with them, stroking their damp fur, laughing as they nudged your hand, soaking up every bit of attention you offered.
“You’re so cute!” you cooed, scratching one of them behind the ears. They leaned into your touch, clearly enjoying themselves, even if they’d typically rather be dry. The joy was infectious, and before he knew it, Megumi found himself slightly smiling, too. The dogs barked happily, shuffling around you, and it felt like all the worries of the world had been washed away with the rain.
As you looked up at him, still crouched next to one of the dogs, your smile was so bright, so full of warmth, that it struck him. For a moment, he forgot where he was, forgot the rain, forgot the chill in the air.
Without thinking, he stepped closer, his fists drawing crescent shapes on his palm and he clutched them in the pockets of his hoodie, his voice soft and steady, though his heart was racing. “I think… I’m in love with you.”
Your eyes widened, and the rain continued to fall around you, the world growing even quieter as if to hold this moment still. The dogs were still scurrying around your feet, but your attention wasnt on them this time.
You rose slowly, the surprise on your face melting into something warmer, something softer. “You mean that, Megumi?”
He nodded, feeling more vulnerable than he ever had. “Yeah. I do.”
A small laugh escaped you, and without another word, you closed the distance between you, wrapping him in a gentle hug. He hugged back the umbrella now tilted sideways, His demon dogs barked excitedly, as if they, too, sensed the significance of the moment.
For the first time, Megumi didn’t mind the rain.

CHAPTER THREE ─ opportunities.
❛ but this is getting good now, he's so tall and handsome as hell ❜
Narrator's Perspective
The final bell pierced the air, a sharp clang that shattered the focused hum of the classroom. A collective sigh rippled through the students, a wave of relief washing over them after a day of lessons, tests, and social navigation. Papers rustled as they're shoved into backpacks, textbooks slammed shut with finality.
A teacher who Eunyoung recognized as the head of the school newspaper approached her as she and Yumi made their way to the gate.
"Eunyoung! I'm so glad I caught you!" she sighed in relief, "There's an article that we need done urgently for next week. It involves interviewing the swimming team regarding the upcoming tournament. I understand you're swarmed in other schoolwork too, but could you cover it this one time? The boy who was supposed to write it is down with chicken pox, and won't be able to complete it."
"Sure Ma'am, it's no hassle," Eunyoung agreed with a smile, her heart swelling up with happiness, "I'll submit it by next week."
"Thank you so much!"
As the teacher left, Yumi stared at Eunyoung with a teasing smile. "I don't remember this happening before."
"This article was given to someone else because I declined it," Eunyoung answered, smiling, "I was never one for sports."
"You're getting used to this era pretty well, I see," the teasing smile was still plastered on Yumi's face.
"I hope you remember that you have piano practice at the music club today," Eunyoung attempted to change the topic.
"I remember it very well," Yumi answered, noticing the shift as well as her sister's flushed face, "Enjoy writing your article," she winked and skipped away.
Eunyoung, a smile playing on her lips, strolled leisurely towards the bus stop. The familiar path triggered a wave of deja vu, a feeling that mirrored her experience earlier that day. It was as if she were walking this very route not for the first time today, but for the hundredth, a memory from fifteen years ago inexplicably resurfacing.
Reaching the bus stop, she was met with the usual chaos - a throng of students jostling for a spot on the overflowing bus. But amidst the sea of uniforms, a single figure caught her eye. There, like a beacon cutting through the crowd, stood Sunjae. His beauty was undeniable - flawless features that seemed sculpted by the gods, and a mess of fluffy hair that cascaded down his forehead. He was a picture of youthful perfection, a vision that both startled and soothed her.
So, this is the bus he takes... She thought to herself, the fact that she takes the same one slipping her mind completely.
Yumi dragged her feet along the pavement, making her way to the school music club to practice piano. Learning the piano was never something she wanted to do, but continued passively as she loathed the idea of quitting in the middle of learning. She remembers ceasing to practice after law school, which meant she hadn't touched a piano for nearly fifteen years. She couldn't recall her dislike for it, but reckoned that those old emotions would come crashing back to her the second she sat down on her piano stool.
Upon reaching the looming building, she was unable to take any steps inside, but simply gaped at it in silence. It was a place she kept revisiting, every single day, no matter what. Coming to practice consistently was something her younger self had never challenged, but now as she viewed life from a different lens, that had been weathered by adversities, she began to question if there was any meaning in these recurring religious visits.
Drawing up the courage from an unknown source within her, she entered the building with a blank, bored face. Sitting down at the waiting area outside the various practice rooms, she dug out her music sheets from her backpack, attempting at familiarizing herself with them after being parted for dog ages.
Then suddenly, a cry of agitation diverted her focus to the source of the sound.
"Yah! Kim Taesung! I can't believe you're late again!" Inhyuk scolded the boy.
Yumi turned her head the other way to find out who he was looking at. Her eyes fell upon a messy-looking boy- seemingly from her school, wearing just a white shirt with no tie and a bright red biker jacket. His hair fell loosely on his face, ruffled by the wind. He had a cat-like face and a cheeky demeanour as he smiled sheepishly at Inhyuk, "Let me go this time, I really got stuck in traffic."
"What bullshit," Inhyuk countered, "It doesn't even take 10 minutes to walk from school to here. Quit dilly-dallying and get your act together."
Taesung scoffed and murmured another apology.
Just then, a strong gust of wind blew through the open door, and the music sheets on which Yumi's grip had loosened while staring at the unknown boy, scattered across the floor. Both Inhyuk and Taesung lunged to grab them in time before they could fly away while Yumi closed the door. Taesung gathered the sheets from the ground and from Inhyuk and handed them to her.
"Here," he said. Yumi looked up at his eyes creased with a smile. All she could do was stare at his face blankly.
Why am I behaving like this?
"Thank you," she mumbled and took the sheets and made a run for the piano room.
"How odd..." Taesung muttered under his breath.
"So, what, you just stared at his face?" Eunyoung questioned after Yumi narrated the events of that day.
"I said thank you after," Yumi corrected, unsure of what to feel.
"How polite," Eunyoung said thoughtfully, "What about Inhyuk, did you talk to him?"
"What do you think?" Yumi retorted, "I need a reason to talk to him."
"I guess," she answered, "What about the other guy? You think he knows Sunjae?"
"I don't know," Yumi confessed, "Guess I'll have to find out."

CHAPTER ONE ─ life: a tempest.
❛ there was something 'bout you, that now I can't remember ❜
Narrator's Perspective
To Eunyoung, Ryu Sunjae was like a bright star shining in the sky, so far away yet he cast his light over the whole world. He was unreachable, beyond the horizon, yet she felt she could touch him if she jumped high enough. Seeing him in person at the Eclipse concert was like a fever dream. Stepping out of the stadium, she was still in awe as she stood agape next to her sister, Yumi. The soft melody of ❛Sonaki❜ rang in her head, drowning out all her other thoughts.
"Oy, Eunyoung!" Yumi called out for the third time, "Everyone is leaving for send-off, come quickly or we won't get a good spot."
"Huh?" said Eunyoung. Hearing Yumi's voice pulled her back to reality and she took a few seconds to process her words, "Coming."
"Looks like your brain became slow after seeing Sunjae up close."
Eunyoung's gaze landed on Sunjae, and she couldn't help but call out, "Sunjae! Please sign this for me!" With a warm smile, he received the CD she offered and added his autograph.
"Thank you for coming," he expressed. Their fingers brushed briefly as he returned the signed ❛Sonaki❜ CD. The fleeting touch sent a jolt through Eunyoung, a fluttering sensation that mimicked a thousand butterflies taking flight in her stomach.
She navigated her way out of the crowd once all the members had departed and waited outside the buzzing concert venue. She scanned the place for Yumi as they separated among the hundreds, if not, thousands of fans hoping to interact with their idols. The excitement she felt a few moments ago lingered like an afterglow of sorts. Her hand reached up to her chest, trying to calm the rapid beating of her heart.
"Eunyoung!" Yumi called out to her sister through the sea of fans.
Eunyoung's head whipped around to look at Yumi. Spotting her, she waved at Yumi, who made her way through the crowd towards her.
"Any luck?" asked Eunyoung eagerly.
"High five from Inhyuk," she answered dreamily, "I've won in life."
"Good for you, girl! Ahh I'm so happy for you," she exclaimed.
"How about you? Did Sunjae look at you?" she questioned. Eunyoung grinned in response.
"Even better," she was smiling from ear to ear, "He signed my CD and our fingers brushed when he gave it back to me!"
"Gosh, you are one lucky fan!" Yumi said, locking arms with Eunyoung, "Come on now, time to go back to reality."
"I think I'm always going to be here in my mind," Eunyoung beamed as Yumi dragged her towards her car.
The snow fell like a secret whisper at first. Individual flakes, like tiny, lost stars, drifted down from the iron-gray sky. Each one landed on the cold ground with a soft thump, "It's the first snow of the season," whispered the two sisters in unison.
Eunyoung was flopped down on the couch at her and Yumi's shared apartment, staring at the ceiling in wonder and amazement. She was yet to get over the initial shock of the events of that night. After years of admiring him from afar, she finally saw him up close.
"For how long do you plan on sitting there like that?" Yumi interrogated, "Aren't you going to listen to the CD?"
She sprung up suddenly, "Oh, right! I should do that! Maybe it'll sound different this time."
Yumi chuckled and shook her head on hearing the happiness in Eunyoung's voice, "Sunjae is lucky to have you."
Eunyoung shuffled through her bag, looking for the CD; On finding its case, she gently placed it on her desk next to her CD player. Carefully, she lifted the CD, its smooth surface cool against her fingers, sending tingles through her body. She placed the shiny side down on the tray, the colorful picture facing up. It looked almost like a tiny spaceship about to take off. Yumi's panicked voice diverted her attention as Eunyoung turned to look at her.
"Look, Eunyoung," Yumi appeared as if she had encountered a ghost, "This article says that Ryu Sunjae committed suicide."
"What?!" She exclaimed, feeling all the sensation leaving her body, "Show me that!"
In agitation, she snatched the phone from Yumi's hand, skimming through the article as her breathing became increasingly erratic. How is it possible? He was right there- he smiled at me just moments ago! There were a million thoughts running through her mind, her eyes welling up, tears threatened to spill any second.
"What? How is this-" her voice cracked desperately hoping for someone to prove the article wrong. Yumi wholeheartedly felt her panic and frustration. Eunyoung shoved the phone back into Yumi's hands.
Eunyoung fell back on the chair behind her, reaching for her phone as falling tears blurred her vision. In this rollercoaster of emotions, her hand pushed a button on the CD player and the signed CD slid into the machine. As the tray clicked shut, the soft piano melody of the first verse of Sonaki resounding in their ears.
Eunyoung's lower lip trembled the second the sound landed on her ears, her arms erecting in goosebumps as she began to sob quietly. Tears filled up Yumi's eyes as the grip of her hand loosened and her phone crashed onto the floor.
Suddenly the music came to a halt and the digital display showing the duration of the song flickered to show 3:00.
"Huh?"
The soft symphony of snowflakes tapping on the window screeched to a halt. Yumi and Eunyoung, enveloped in their grief over Sunjae's passing, barely registered the sudden silence. It descended upon the room like a shroud, a tangible manifestation of their sorrow. Time itself seemed to hold its breath, mourning alongside them. In that suspended moment, the world around them dissolved. The familiar walls of their room rippled and warped, morphing into a swirling vortex. With a dizzying rush, the sisters found themselves hurtled through the churning mass, flung headlong into another era.

CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO ─ rain, romance and revelations.
❛ but i can't help myself, when you get close to me ❜
Choi Eunyoung's Perspective
Sunjae and I sat side by side on his living room couch, dripping with rainwater that soaked into the sofa fabric. The couch was large enough to seat at least four people, and yet we sat close together, soaking up each others' warmth, afraid to let go. One of Sunjae's jackets was now draped over my shoulders. My brain could hardy comprehend anything that was happening. He had found me in the rain and kissed me. I couldn't believe it. It was like a scene straight out of a rom-com movie. My heart pounded against my chest, and the rain and chilly breeze couldn't put out the fire inside me.
Sunjae reached for a towel, his movements unhurried and gentle, as if he were handling something precious. He stepped closer, the warmth of his presence cutting through the chill that clung to my skin. Without a word, he began drying my hair, his touch soft and deliberate. The fabric brushed against my scalp, and I could feel the care behind every motion.
My body froze for a moment, caught off guard by the intimacy of it all. My heart stumbled over its rhythm as I became fixated on him—on the way his eyes held a quiet tenderness, the kind that made it impossible to look away. His damp hair clung to his forehead, and I could see the faint shiver in his frame, but he didn't seem to care. His only focus was on me.
The butterflies in my stomach took flight, their wings fluttering wildly at the realization of how selfless he was. He didn't even think twice about his own discomfort, his own cold. His hands moved with a kind of attentiveness that made my chest tighten, like I'd stumbled into a dream I never wanted to wake up from.
Then he paused. His hands stilled, the towel resting lightly against my head. Slowly, he looked at me, his gaze shifting, as if he'd just realized how close we were—how my eyes hadn't left him for even a second. His expression softened, yet there was a flicker of uncertainty, of awareness that hadn't been there a moment ago.
I felt the heat rising in my cheeks, spreading like wildfire. My breath hitched, and I wondered if he could feel the way my pulse quickened, even though I wasn't sure I could speak. The air between us felt charged, delicate, as if a single word might break whatever spell we'd found ourselves under.
"What's the matter?" he asked softly. His voice rung like the melody of a love song.
"You're so sweet," I breathed out after a few seconds.
His face melted into a smile, showing his adorable dimple and his eyes becoming like crescent moons. My own lips stretched into a smile. All I wanted was to see him happy; No matter who he was with. But now here he was, wrapping his arms around my waist, smiling sweetly at me.
"I cant believe you avoided me for so many days."
"I do feel a bit silly now, thinking back," I giggled out, "But you really gave me a scare. I thought you were going away for good."
"I would have," he confessed, "If it weren't for someone making it impossible for me to go anywhere."
"I didn't realize you were so cheesy."
"So what, you don't like me anymore?" he asked, bringing his face closer to mine.
"I still like you," I answered with a laugh, giving him a short kiss. I watched his face and ears turn red in an instant and I couldn't help but chuckle. He's so cute...
Suddenly, the sound of the front door opening startled the both of us. Before we had any time to process what was happening, Sunjae's dad appeared with a blue cloth bag and an umbrella in his hand. He stood before us, paralyzed in a state of shock. I moved a bit further from Sunjae, trying to increase the distance between us.
"Oh! Eunyoung!" he exclaimed finally, "I see... you both got drenched in the rain! Oh, dear, you must be very cold..." He rattled on.
"I'll get going then!" I got up suddenly, waving an awkward goodbye to both of them.
"Sunjae, I'll- uh, return your jacket! Later..."
Ryu Sunjae's Perspective
I watched as Eunyoung practically bolted out of my house after muttering out an excuse for my dad. Dammit, now I have to explain myself to my dad. Looking at my father's smug smile, I realized he must have put two and two together already.
"I wasn't born yesterday, son," he said, still smiling.
"I know," I gulped.
"I can't say I'm surprised."
"Oh, you're not?"
"Not a bit," he said rather confidently, "You finally got your act together!"
"So," I began, "You're okay with this? With Eunyoung and I-"
"Okay?! Oh, I'm more than okay!" he let out a hearty laugh, "You have my blessing!"
I felt my heart relax and I let out a sigh of relief. I had my father's permission. He was a stubborn man, and it was a huge deal. I just hope Eunyoung's mother is as supportive.
Narrator's Perspective
Eunyoung, her mother and Yumi sat in the living room for dinner while the rain pitter-pattered against the windows. Everyone was eating in silence- as they often did, but tonight, Eunyoung kept smiling to herself every few seconds while still looking down at her plate. Her mom glanced at Yumi, hoping that she would know why Eunyoung was so happy.
"We gotta get used to this," she said loudly.
Eunyoung looked up at Yumi in confusion, "What?"
"Why is that?" Their mother asked tentatively.
"You wanna tell her or should I?" Yumi asked Eunyoung.
"Tell her about what?"
"About your boyfriend."
Her mother's eyebrows shot up, "Boyfriend?"
"Oh," Eunyoung realized, "Right. I was going to tell you after things were official... but I guess since Yumi's already spilled the beans... I'll just tell you. I'm dating this guy..."
"Who?"
"Oh, you know," Eunyoung avoided her gaze, looking at the walls behind where her mother was seated, a red tinge appearing on her face, "It's umm... Sunjae. Ryu Sunjae- you know he lives-"
"Oh," her mother exclaimed, pleasantly surprised, "The guy next door? He seemed nice..."

CHAPTER NINETEEN ─ on my mind.
❛ in losing grip on sinking ships, you showed up just in time. ❜
Choi Yumi's Perspective
The metal benches in the music club waiting area felt cool against my legs which swung back and forth leisurely. It occurred to me that I probably looked extremely suspicious sitting there idly, looking here and there, as if I was waiting for someone. If I was completely honest to myself, I would have said that I wanted to see Taesung one more time. It was stupid, but it was true. I'd found it impossible to keep his kitty cat face out of my head, and I hadn't seen him in a few days. However, I'd rather tear apart my limbs and use them for making furniture than admit that I was interested in a teenage boy. So, I sat there, telling myself that the cool breeze that entered through the main entrance felt nice and there was nothing to do at home.
My head turned way faster than it should have when I heard one of the doors open. To my dismay, it was Inhyuk. And all the band members. Except Taesung. It was as if the universe was playing tricks on me. I failed to fight the urge, and asked Inhyuk, "Hey! Do you have any idea where Taesung is? I haven't seen him in a few days."
"Oh! He's sick, actually," he informed me, "Why do you ask?"
"Oh... umm..." I stuttered, "I wanted to uhh... talk to him... about... something."
"He should be back soon," said Inhyuk thoughtfully, "It's a shame he's got sick just before his birthday."
His words struck me like lightning in a thunderstorm, "His birthday? When's that?" I asked before I could stop myself.
"It's on the coming Sunday," Inhyuk answered, and I could have sworn there was a mischievous glint in his eyes, "I feel like we should plan something for him. His mom lives overseas, and his dad is a cop, so he's always busy."
"We should," it was too late until I realized my choice of words, "I mean you! You should..."
Inhyuk smirked, "You can help if you like! You guys are friends, right?"
"I guess so," I mumbled, feeling my face getting warmer. I may have looked normal at that moment, but my heart was ready to leap out of my chest and run a half marathon.
Choi Eunyoung's Perspective
The summer heat pricked my skin, relieved by the occasional breeze. I sat at the bus stop with my head hung, as if I looked up at the Sun for even a second, I would have lost my eyesight, which I valued far too much. I must have looked like a ghost, for I was so absorbed by my own thoughts that they drowned out the chatter of other students around me.
Sunjae occupied every corner of my mind, a relentless tide washing away thoughts of anything else. Even after my daily visits, a gnawing worry remained. Was the brave facade he presented a mask for a deeper pain? Witnessing his struggle fueled an anger within me, an anger directed at the cruel twist of fate that had stolen his dream.
But beneath the anger, a different emotion swirled – a confusing tangle that defied definition. Was it simple admiration for his talent? Fanatic devotion for the singer? Or was it something more? The thought itself sent a shiver down my spine.
I couldn't dare to contemplate any further. Trapped in this strange era, with no clue when – or even if – I'd return to my own time, the future stretched before me like a blurry landscape. Each stolen moment with Sunjae felt like a step closer to a precipice, a place where the joy of connection might be shattered by the inevitable goodbye. Fear rose inside my chest from time to time- if I gave in to these feelings, would I ever be able to look away?
Breaking my train of thought, a finger tapped on my shoulder. I looked up slowly, my eyes widening at the face that stared at me with a mischievous smirk. Eyes that glimmered in the Sun and smiling lips that sent my heart racing. "Sunjae! What are you doing here!"
"I'm here to surprise you," he said, taking a seat beside me, flashing the dimple on his right cheek. He was dressed in a simple white t-shirt and black jeans. As I noticed the sling wrapped around his injured shoulder, I felt my heart sink. "You're happy to see me, I hope?"
"Of course I am!" I exclaimed, beaming. How could I not be? "Are you even allowed to be roaming around like this? Weren't you supposed to be discharged this Friday?"
"The doctor said I didn't need to stay in the hospital any longer," he informed me. A wave of relief washed over me.Sunjae's face broke into a wide grin, the first genuine happiness I'd seen since his surgery. His smile, like sunlight breaking through the clouds, made my stomach do a little flip.
"I'm so glad!" I said to him, the smile never leaving my face, "I bet you were tried of seeing those white walls everyday. There's no place like home, am I right?"
Ryu Sunjae's Perspective
She had no idea that she was, in fact, home to him. A constant pillar of support in his darkest hour. Admist the uncertainties of his career, she stood by him unfailingly, offering priceless advice and a shoulder to cry on. "You're right. I'm glad to be back home." I answered, thinking to myself, "By your side, that is."
"Your dad must be thrilled, right? she beamed.
"Sure, he is," even mention of my father's apparent elation couldn't dim my spirits as I continued smiling at her, mostly in admiration of her unreal beauty.
"Oh! I almost forgot!" she uttered suddenly, "I got something for you!" My eyebrows shot up, "What?! How come?!"
"It's just a little gift," Eunyoung told me, "Something to cheer you up after your days in the hospital."
Narrator's Perspective
Sunjae sat silently in the living room of Eunyoung's house with his hands placed awkwardly on his lap. His eyes scanned the place absent-mindedly as he waited for Eunyoung to emerge from her room. The atmosphere was extremely still and silent. A stack of magazines and newspapers sat on the little coffee table in the centre of the room alongside the couch. The curtains were drawn, and the only sources of light were two tall lamps on either corner of the sofa. It was almost as if no one had been living there.
To anyone else, it might have seemed slightly spooky; But all Sunjae could think of was their stolen moment after he got taken to the hospital during swim practice. About two weeks had passed since it happened, but to him, the memory was crystal clear, as if it happened the previous day. A warmth crept up his cheeks at the thought. A part of him felt embarrassed and stupid. Was he really going to kiss her? Did that make him look brazen to her? He had successfully convinced himself that he imagined it, but he could have sworn that she leaned in too.
"I found it!" Eunyoung's voice put a full stop to Sunjae's flashback as he pulled himself back to the present. She held a blue cap in her hand. It was an ordinary cap to anyone else, but she had picked it out with great thoughtfulness. "Blue was the colour of the umbrella that you gave me the day we met. I wanted it to be something meaningful." A shy smile and a soft pink blush surfaced on her face.
Sunjae could feel his entire body burning up. He felt as if he had been glued to the couch. He didn't want to lead himself on and let himself misinterpret her actions. How could someone so dazzling have the slightest interest in him? Yet, the smallest glimmer of hope bloomed in his heart. Maybe, just maybe...
"It's incredible," he breathed out. The words barely made it out of his mouth, and he could swear his heart had plans of jumping out of his heart and clinging onto Eunyoung. "I love it... thank you! I can't- I don't know how to thank you, really."
"It's nothing," she brushed off, the blush on her cheeks deepening, "I'm just glad you like it."

While Sunjae and Eunyoung's lips moved against each other's without a care in the world, a worried Yumi called out desperately to Eunyoung.
"Eunyoung! Choi Eunyoung!" she screamed into the darkness, "Where the hell are you?"
The moment her voice fell upon Sunjae's ears, he pulled away from Eunyoung's embrace hastily. The sound sent panic surging through him, while Eunyoung felt like she was floating on a cloud, with the sweet taste of Sunjae's lips lingering on her lips. Sunjae began thinking harder than ever. In a few seconds, he came to the conclusion that it would be better for him to face Eunyoung's sister and make up a story before she could find them and draw her own conclusions. Taking a deep breath and trying his hardest to ignore the aftertaste of soju and lipgloss on his lips, he gently took a hold of Eunyoung's wrist and came out from behind the stage to face Yumi.
Yumi's expression when she saw them was absolutely priceless. All sort of mortifying thoughts raced through her head. Her eyes widened in shock and her mouth fell agape in confusion. Sunjae, raising his eyebrows and speaking too fast, said, "Listen it's not-"
"Why are you naked?" she asked, turning to look at the pine trees.
"Look, I was looking for my shirt and-"
"And you found my sister instead?" Yumi asked skeptically.
"Yeah, that's what-"
Yumi scoffed, as if to say unbelievable.
"I'm telling the truth!" Technically he wasn't lying, because before he found Eunyoung, he was looking for his shirt, but he wasn't going to enlighten Yumi about what happened after that. A warmth crept up his cheeks on thinking of the kiss they had just shared and he fought with all his might to conceal his smile, "And I just saw her and she's really drunk. That's when I heard your voice... so now I'm here."
Yumi squinted at his face, focusing on only his face, as if trying to see through his bluff. She advanced towards them and shook Sunjae's hands- that still held Eunyoung's wrist, off and pulled Eunyoung to her side. She took a good long look at Eunyoung. Her hair was messy, hanging around her eyes, her cheeks were flushed and her lipstick was slightly smudged. Her piercing gaze shifted to Sunjae, who look a step back, intimidated by her death glare. His face had "guilty conscious" written over his face, that was too obvious for Yumi to ignore. Thinking that Eunyoung would probably tell her everything eventually, she let him go and stopped glaring daggers at him.
"So you found her like this?"
"Yeah."
"While you were looking for your shirt?"
"That's right."
"Well," Yumi said, "Thanks for bringing her to me, I guess. And I hope you find your shirt."
Sunjae sighed in relief as Yumi and Eunyoung turned around and disappeared into the distance. But he still felt his heart racing and cheeks blushing from kissing Eunyoung. The warmth of her touch curled his lips into a cheery smile as he began journeying back to his own tent, while his missing shirt had been forgotten.
💿
Yumi struggled in getting Eunyoung into bed because for some reason she refused to cooperate. When she was finally tucked in, Yumi stared at her blank face, trying to figure out what had happened between Eunyoung and Sunjae. Actually, it was quite obvious, but admitting it was a whole other story. Eunyoung let out a small giggle, still lost in Sunjae's touch.
"What?" Yumi snapped. Eunyoung's laugh was basically confirming her fears. Something about it made Yumi feel weird on the inside.
"He's such a good kisser," Eunyoung whispered, staring at the ceiling with a stupid smile on her face. Yumi's eyes widened and her heart nearly stopped working from shock.
The word "kiss," reminded her of what had happened earlier that evening. Kim Taesung had stolen her first kiss. And that too in front of the whole Practical Music department. Within a few hours, the news had spread all over the campsite, and everyone knew about it. In just one night, she and her fake boyfriend had become the biggest news at the Yeonseo University field trip. It was a mess- girls crying, gossiping, guys speculating and the seniors wondering if they would get married. And Minjun? He must have died from the shock, which meant that he would leave her alone at last.
The truth was that it was all she wanted. Taesung's possessive yet gentle demeanor. His soft touch that sent sparks flying inside her. It was perfect- all she would ever wish for. But of course, it scared her. What would happen to their relationship? They had gone from barely speaking to each other to being a fake couple with a kiss. How would it affect the future. It was all too much.
To distract herself, she turned to look at her sister again, sighing at her smiling, giggling face. She couldn't help but giggle at her stupidity.
"You're going to regret telling me that in the morning."
💿
Regaining consciousness in the morning was one of the most painful experiences of her life. Her head felt like a million needles were poking at her brain, tearing at it. Her entire body felt heavy, as if a cow was sitting on her chest. There was a hazy fog in her head and the sunlight streaming through the window felt blinding. At first, she could remember nothing from the previous night.
Then, it started coming back to her slowly, but surely. Playing drinking games and getting drunk with her friends. And then roaming around, lost afterwards. She then remembered Sunjae- shirtless, in all his glory, and her impulsive decisions that escalated-
"Considering that look on your face and the way you're blushing, I'm guessing you got your memories back, huh?" Yumi asked, smiling sarcastically.
"You know too?" Eunyoung buried her head in the blanket, groaning with embarrassment.
"Why're you so dramatic?" Yumi pulled the sheets off, "Isn't it a good thing?"
"No, are you kidding?" Eunyoung said, panicking, "You don't even know what exactly I did. And he didn't even say anything- OH MY GOD. It must've made him so uncomfortable, I'm going to die."
"Relax," Yumi assured her, "Since you confessed to your sins, let me tell you what happened last night. Kim Taesung kissed me."
"WHAT?!"
"Yeah," Yumi confessed, looking down with shame, " You know how Minjun was after my life? Yeah, well this was Taesung's way of getting me out of it. Now I have a fake boyfriend."
Eunyoung blinked a few times, trying to process this new information. In the end, all she could say was, "Wow. That's really... something."

CHAPTER FIFTY-SIX ─ on and off-stage drama.
❛ i swear i don't love the drama, it loves me ❜
Choi Eunyoung's Perspective
"What?!" I breathed out, "Inhyuk's going back to his village? Taesung and Jay are quitting Eclipse? What- what do you mean by that?"
"Exactly," Sunjae nodded remorsefully, "They're saying that they'll finish this festival performance one last time and then quit. But Inhyuk's already left. He's staying with his parents in his village."
It felt as if my entire world was falling apart. I couldn't let this happen. I was supposed to change the future for the better, not create a bigger mess. I had to fix this, by whatever means necessary.
"Well, we gotta stop this," I said decisively, "Let's talk to Taesung after rehearsal."
"It's a plan," Sunjae said, smiling. His face twisted into an expression of shock when he looked at his watch, "Oh! We're ten minutes late!"
Narrator's Perspective
"What language is this, even?" Yumi exclaimed looking at the script, "Thou lovs't me not with the full weight that I love thee? This nutjob has written the entire play like this! How did I even pass the audition?"
The other students who were part of the cast sat and watched the 'couple' in adoration instead of revising their scripts. They whispered and giggled uncontrollably, much to Yumi's irritation. Taesung, however, was not-so-secretly enjoying it. He was basking in the attention, and the fact that people thought he and Yumi were a real couple made his heart swell with joy.
"You'll do fine," he placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. His touch still made sparks dance across her skin. He leaned towards her face and gave her a smile, "We've got plenty of time, hmm?"
"What's your role anyways?" Yumi asked, looking anywhere but at his face.
"Oliver," he answered, not shifting his gaze.
Yumi began furiously flipping through the pages of the script. All of a sudden, she gasped, "Seriously?"
"What?" Taesung asked, sitting next to her, peering into the script.
"Oliver and Celia get married at the end?" she scoffed, but her flushed face said otherwise, "On the basis of what? I swear Shakespeare was on crack each time he picked up his pen."
"How could you say such a thing about him?" Eunyoung said. She had just gotten there along with Sunjae, "Why hasn't rehearsal started yet?"
"Well, the director suddenly fell sick so the writers told us to revise on our own for today," Taesung explained.
"Oh, we ran here for no reason," Sunjae said, chuckling while shooting a knowing glance at Eunyoung. Eunyoung smiled back, "I know right?"
"Ooooh, damn are you two a thing now?" asked one of the girls sitting close to them, eavesdropping.
"How 'bout you mind your own business?" Yumi sneered with hostility.
"How am I supposed to ignore it when they're flirting right in front of me?"
"Maybe you need a lesson on personal space?" Yumi said, taking a step away from her.
The girl rolled her eyes, then picked up her things and walked off, muttering under her breath.
"You seem to be in a mood today," Eunyoung observed.
"You can thank Shakespeare for that," Yumi replied.
"I don't know why you hate a man who died several centuries ago," Eunyoung uttered.
"I don't know why you like a man who died several centuries ago," Yumi countered.
"I don't like the man, I just thing his work had a timeless element to it."
"And so here we are."
"Okay, okay, stop the bickering," Taesung said waving his hand between them.
"We're not bickering," Yumi shrugged.
"That's just how we get along," Eunyoung agreed, giving Yumi a small smile.
"As long as there's no bloodshed, I'm good," Taesung said.
"How's the prep for the Eclipse performance going?" Yumi asked eagerly. Her question was followed by a long, awkward silence. Taesung stared at Sunjae, Sunjae glanced at Eunyoung, and Eunyoung looked at Yumi nervously.
"I guess you don't know," Sunjae said as gently as he could, "Inhyuk left for his village, because he wanted to help his parents out... He's also planning on dropping out."
"What?!" Yumi exclaimed. Heads turned to see what the commotion was about. She stood, completely stunned for few seconds, "What's going to happen to your band?" She shot a worried look at Eunyoung, as if to say What is happening? Is this our fault?
"Taesung, didn't you-" Eunyoung gestured him not to mention it, shaking her head as subtly as she could. She didn't want to give Taesung and Yumi a reason to argue again. Sunjae covered up his blunder, "Didn't you say you were going to call him?"
"Um... yeah I was," said Taesung, glad that they hadn't mentioned to Yumi that he was going to leave the band, "He didn't pick up."
"So, Sunjae and I were thinking," Eunyoung began, "That we go and visit his village and bring him back to his senses. What do you think?"
"I'm in," Taesung said, looking at Yumi, his eyes full of expectation.
"What if we can't convince him?"
"Oh, you pessimist," Eunyoung groaned, "If he doesn't agree voluntarily, then we'll kidnap him, okay? Are you in or not?"
"I'm in," she said, realizing she wasn't left with much of a choice.
"Good," said Sunjae, "We leave tomorrow?"
"Yeah," said everyone in unison.
There were a few minutes of silence as they all went back to reading their scripts. A moment later, Eunyoung looked up, "Hey, Taesung?"
"Hmm?"
"I had to ask you about that..." she trailed off.
Taesung frowned with confusion, but the realization hit him soon enough and she said, "Oh, right. Of course," he said, getting up, "We'll be back."
Yumi and Sunjae watched them get up and go outside the auditorium.
"That was weird," Yumi said, furrowing her brows.
"Breathe if you're jealous."
"Any updates?" she asked Taesung, "About my dad? Was the information I gave conclusive enough?"
"Yeah, they've started the investigation," he answered, "My dad said that considering his history, he'll most likely get a life sentence. He wanted me to ask if it's okay with you."
"Yes, absolutely," Eunyoung said decisively.
Taesung blinked a few times, "Okay, if that's what you want."
"It is."

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE ─ unfinished business.
❛ i've been looking at you since half past two wanna take this downtown? ❜
Choi Eunyoung's Perspective
The moment I opened my eyes, my ears filled with cheery chatter from all directions. Enthusiastic conversations and excited giggles went on all around me. I blinked my eyes rapidly a few times, looking around. Everyone was dressed in orange attire with the Yeonseo University logo. My mind couldn't process anything. Moments ago, I remember being at the hospital where Sunjae died... again. I felt a lump in my throat as I tried to blink back my tears that threatened to spill any second. I looked around frantically in desperate search for the only face I wanted to see at that moment.
Then I found him. My panic ceased for a glorious, fleeting moment while my teary eyes rested on his face. The corners of my lips curled up without me realizing as I saw his resting face. He leaned back on his seat with his eyes closed and features relaxed. He looked as perfect as ever, I thought to myself. The ache in my heart seemed to give way momentarily while my stomach did backflips at this sight. Fluffy hair that cascaded down his forehead just the right way, perfect, pillowy lips...
I snapped myself back to reality. Where was I? On looking around a second time, I finally realized. I was on my university field trip. This realization seemed to form even more questions in my mind. Where was Yumi? Was this my last chance to save Sunjae.
Memories from the future resurfaced as I began to see with a hurtful clarity. The detective had told me in his professional, emotionless tone that the man who was responsible for Sunjae's death, the driver of the truck was none other than Choi Minseok, my father. I knew I was on a train to some countryside location I couldn't quite put my finger on, which meant that I had to maintain composure. I couldn't break down weeping right there no matter how much I wanted to.
It was all so unfair. My dad took everything with him when he left my mom and me. All we had was a shanty apartment that not even he wanted. And now again, here he was, haunting my past, future and my present, taking away my everything.
"Eunyoung!" the girl beside me called out. Turning to look at her, I realized she was Yuri, the one friend I had throughout college who stuck by me through those times. I smiled, feeling nostalgic of my university days, "Did you hear what that guy said?"
"What?"
"God, you are so distracted today!" she observed, sounding slightly concerned, "He said that when two people kiss on the first field trip of Yeonseo University, they always get married later in life! Isn't that insane? Gosh, that's so romantic!"
"That sounds ridiculous!" I chuckled, waving my hand in front of my face, "They just make up stories to entertain us."
"Don't be such a mood-kill!" she said, elbowing me, smiling enthusiastically, "Let's have some fun, yeah?"
"Yeah, of course," I answered her, forcing a smile out of obligation, "We'll have fun for sure."
"Anyone you like from the orientation?" she asked, leaning towards me eagerly.
I went silent for a good couple of seconds, feeling heat rise up my face at the thought of Sunjae.
"Not really," I lied through my teeth, avoiding her gaze and staring out through the window, "Maybe I will once I get to know them better."
Choi Yumi's Perspective
I heaved a sigh. Out of all places, why did I have to end up at m university field trip? I clearly remember it being a disaster. I was a drunken mess and the hangover made me the sickest I had ever been in my life. And this trip was the beginning of four torture-filled years of law school that I loathed. My gaze fell on my neatly folded jacket in my lap. I traced the embroidery that read "Yeonseo University" mindlessly when I noticed the department written below it.
Practical Music
I had to bite back the gasp that nearly escaped my mouth when I realized what it said. How did it suddenly become Practical Music of all things? I had never been so perplexed in my life. Something in the time travel had altered my reality and now I was a Music major. For a moment, it felt like liberation. Like someone had given me the keys to freedom and to happiness. This was my escape. My path to fulfilment. I remembered my lifelong love for music. How I started listening to Eclipse because of it... and now I was here again. Time travelling for the last time, hoping to bring Taesung out of his misery.
I looked around as discretely as I could, scanning the sea of orange-clad freshman and seniors, only looking for a certain someone. The moment I saw his bright smile, my heart threatened to jump out of my chest. My happiness knew no bounds, seeing him laugh with the Eclipse members.
It was undoubtable, my love for Taesung and for music were always intertwined. It was fate all along. Perhaps I had a chance. How silly it was that his beautiful smile was enough to turn me into this foolish optimist?
Everything reminded me of my mother. How she spent hours in the front yard with her cup of coffee and biscuits writing lyrics endlessly. The various times she would read out poetry to me were all so vivid in my mind. They played in front of my eyes like flashbacks of an old movie tape that was so worn out from watching over and over again. For a moment, I felt contended. That maybe she was watching over me from heaven, feeling proud that I was-perhaps, fulfilling her dream that she couldn't.

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO ─ your embrace.
❛ now i need someone to hold be my fire in the cold ❜
Choi Yumi's Perspective
"The kitten's grown."
The moment those words left my mouth, I wanted to slap myself really hard. I had been waiting outside the Jagam High Music Club for what felt like an eternity. Each passing minute felt endless, but I endured through my impatience because I wanted to see Kim Taesung. I wanted to sincerely apologize for every thoughtless word I said to him. And when I finally spotted him feeding the kitten on the sidewalk, looking just as gorgeous as ever, all I could say was "The kitten's grown?" I had never acted more stupid in my life
He turned to look at me, and his eyebrows raised in curiosity seemed to fall and his expression changed. His eyes look blank and lifeless, reminding my of the future that I had recently witnessed. He focused his gaze on the ground, as if he was trying to distract himself.
"Oh, it's you."
His words seemed to break my heart in a split second. My mind recalled all the moments I had spent with him in the past. His witty remarks, his humor that was slightly rude, were all vivid in front of my eyes. But now, all that was gone, replaced by a grim, cold boy that I barely recognized. That side of him that only I seemed to know had disappeared, and it was all my fault.
He stood up, facing me now, and my stupid heart began hammering against my chest.
"I- I wanted to say... that I'm sorry," I mumbled out. Another internal slap. That sounded completely insincere. Like someone had forced me to apologize. What was wrong with me? Where had all my communication skills gone off to?
Choi Eunyoung's Perspective
I pushed the door as I entered the swimming pool area as quietly as I possibly could. Immediately, the smell of chlorine hit my nose and the still, cool air that hung over the entire room sent a shiver down my spine. I closed the door behind me, making barely a sound as my eyes scanned my surroundings. There was a wall on my right, and a door on my left leading to a locker room. All the windows had been closed and the only source of illumination was from some dim lights put up on the walls.
I had run into Inhyuk while I was about to meet Sunjae at his house, who told me that Sunjae had gone to the swimming pool because he apparently "left something there." The statement brought an inexplicable anxious feeling that tightened my chest and I came to the school swimming pool as quickly as I could.
A soft sobbing sound fell upon my ears that grew louder as I moved towards the source of the sound. Then I saw him. Sunjae. He was sitting right at the edge of the swimming pool. legs crossed and his head in his hands, crying softly. My raised eyebrows and curious eyes morphed into a face of unwelcome realization. My heart seemed to crack and shatter the longer I watched him. Swimming was everything to him. And all of a sudden, he had to quit. When I thought about the amount of pain he must have been in, it made me want to scream and curse at his fate. I felt that same tightening feeling in my chest as I approached him slowly, mindful of the wet floor.
Ryu Sunjae's Perspective
I felt a pair of arms gently wrap around my shoulders. The action was sudden, unexpected; Especially because no one was around when I checked; But strangely, instead of resisting, I found myself melting into the embrace. A part of me knew. That it was her. With hesitation, I lifted my head, my face wet with tears as I heaved another sob and looked at Eunyoung's face that seemed to reflect the pain I felt inside.
"Eunyoung," I breathed out, my sobbing stopping momentarily, "I was-"
"You don't have to explain," she assured me, her own voice sounding choked, as if she was holding back tears. She was kneeling on the wet floor behind me, her arms clinging onto me, as if she was afraid to let go. All my pain seemed to suddenly disappear in that moment as my face began feeling warmer and butterflies seemed to take flight in my stomach. Her touch sent chills down my spine every single time.
She closed her eyes tightly, as tears spilled out of her eyes. With each drop that cascaded down her cheeks, I felt my heart break. She pulled away and sat facing me while trying to blink away the tears in her eyes. "Sunjae, I," her voice faded away as she tried to compose herself before speaking again. As her hand reached up to caress my face, I felt my heart skip a beat. Choi Eunyoung what are you doing to me?
"I never want you to be in pain. It hurts to see you like this, Sunjae. You never have to feel like you need to bottle up your feelings. Because I'm here for you. And I always will be."
The moment she said those words, I couldn't help but pull her into another embrace and burst into tears. My arms wrapped tightly around her waist as I sobbed into the nape of her neck. I felt the surprise in her body, but instead of pushing me away, her hands rested lightly on my head, caressing my hair with a kind of care I had never felt before. I didn't know how much I needed to hear those words, because they seemed to reassure me in ways that I had never felt before.
Then, at the perfect time to ruin the moment, there was a crashing sound outside. Both of us jumped severely as we slipped because of the wet floor and plunged into the pool that was barely inches away from us. The second that the cold water hit my body, soaking all my clothes, I felt my hands reaching for Eunyoung, who was struggling. I held her shoulders tightly as she steadied herself. My eyes scanned her as I asked frantically, "Are you alright? You aren't hurt or anything are you?"
Her widened eyes seemed to stare at me for a few moments before answering, "No... I'm just a little shaken," her nose crinkled up, "And I think some water went up my nose."
I chuckled at her adorable expression. She's just too cute, I found myself thinking.
"Let's get out of here?"
"You don't have to ask me twice."
