Honestly, Kazuki & Rei could absolutely just be platonic friends, roommates, besties, whatever, but Rei’s dad is 10000% treating Kazuki like he’s a romantic attachment for his son.

In Shigeki’s perspective, killing Miri would help keep his son detached, since Rei clearly loves the new fatherly role he has with her, and that truly does push him away from the tight control he wants over his son.

But deciding Kazuki was too much of a liability? Like…there’s no hetero explanation for Rei’s dad to be like “clearly your roommate’s gotta go, you like him too much” because that makes no sense, especially since Kazuki is an asset as a hitman. Shigeki is very loudly and unapologetically treating Kazuki like he’s Rei’s lover, as romantic relationships only cause distraction and potential betrayal of the organization. And why else would he keep repeating that Rei needs to carry on their bloodline, if not to say, “gay relationships don’t produce heirs, therefore this bond does nothing to benefit the Suwa family.”

Rei could really just be best friends with Kazuki but his dad is like “nah that’s some fruity shit right there, we gotta shut that down.”

I've crafted another scenario for why doesn't Shen Jiu beat the shit out of Disciple Shen Yuan

But it's fucked up

He sees Shen Yuan, newly transmigrated street kid, rush out to protect and then comfort another much younger street kid and gets a visceral reminder of Qi-ge before

This kid reminds him viscerally of Qi-ge but if he was this kids Shizun then this one couldn't leave him

He can also make him better

Make him care about the correct things

Shen Yuan agrees to come with him (System orders) but tells the other street child that they will see each other again someday, he's sure

But he doesn't promise and that makes Shen Jiu even more sure he has made the right choice

Shen Jiu moves this kid into his house and works on molding him into what he thinks Qi-ge should have been

He's obsessed and all his focus is on Shen Yuan and his training. He doesn't abuse his other students but he doesn't pay attention to what they are doing either

He's harsh and his words hurt but he can't bring himself to touch this kid much less hit him.

And when he does think about touching it's not out of anger and that's worse

But he doesn't lay a hand on Shen Yuan

And then Luo Binghe shows up

And Shen Yuan who has been so good. So obedient is now arguing back

Because that little useless street kid Shen Yuan was protecting? That was Luo Binghe who is ecstatic to find his saviour in his new home

And Shen Yuan is caught in two people's obsessions that he can't escape even as they rip him apart

one of the major appeals of cumplane to me is that shen qingqiu has all these impressive and interesting guys chasing after him and willing to wait on him hand and foot. but the one guy who he somehow favors the most is the overworked loser he's always fighting with???

oh my god, I need a fic about demons across the realm looking at the two in awe and Shang Quinghua never knowing why until someone explains that their story had inspired literally SO MANY books, Regret of Chungsang? ...and there's Junshan and the weird human he keeps around. Somewhat interesting if you're into that teacher-student thing I guess. There were very few deaths. Some bland murders. The trial arc and the self destruct thing plus corpse hoarding was interesting but overall very vanilla. Unseasoned. Not even a proper decade of drama. Kinda boring. And Junshan's half human so they're like Walmart version inter-species romance. But whatever the Emperor's into I guess. His dad was kinda weird too but at least his relationship with that human woman had some kick to it. The new generation just doesn't appreciate a long drawn out painful romance tsk tsk...

Like infinitely grateful to whoever first spawned that headcanon. Never fails to make me laugh. Honestly the most hilarious thing I've ever seen in this fandom. Hope your pillow is always cold and you never stub your toe.
