Gosh CJ was annoying to draw, had to completely restart on him and had trouble with their hair but totally worth it, Cali on the other hand was vary easy and I love him

I can absolutely see him sobbing if one of his favorite plants die, like there isn't perfect weather to revive it, like he isn't the garden state where literally anything is possible. He will sob and he will do it in front of the other states, he doesn't care if it's "not manly" or "weak" of him, that was his baby damn it!!

The thing with the smell is that it's only the turnpike and really only centered around the Newark area, it honestly isn't noticeable at all once your literally anywhere else (except the swamps going down the shore specifically to WildWood, then it's sorta bad cause it's a fishin area)

Listen he may be very smart (NJ has basically the best educational system in the country) but that doesn't mean he is when it involves him, why keep dirt on himself when he can focus that on others. It does have the downside where he kinda just...forgets certain things, like he is way stronger than he should be and that no it isn't normal to be that obsessed with diners.

(Must say in some weird way this has made me feel better, maybe it's the fact I live here idk lolz)

…..imagine if NJ coughs up flower petals and blood sometimes and has a few other issues due to the pollution being so bad there.

His devil wings have a bunch of scars all over them from over the years.

He’s kinda insecure about the fact that he doesn’t really have a pleasant smell (I’ve been in Jersey once and it wasn’t too bad actually lmao) due to the state itself not really having a pleasant smell

I feel like he gets really really sad whenever a plant dies, especially if he put a lot of effort into trying to help it survive.

He often forgets his own strength and the fact that he’s absolutely jacked and ends up accidentally hurting the other states pretty often.

New Jersey-

The Garden

The StateHouse garden is probably among the best in the whole country. Containing every single state flower and regional based plants, it’s truly a sight to behold, but it wasn’t always like this.

The original garden was pitiful, pretty much every plant was dead and overall just ruined the backyard. When some of the states asked Gov why it was like this, his answer was that he had no idea and the states are free to do whatever with it. Jersey took this answer and ran with it.

He basically banned anyone from going to that part of the backyard, and would barely be seen during the following weeks, when he was seen he was covered in dirt and mud. Then he started taking states aside, asking them questions about their state flowers and native plants, if the state didn’t know Jersey sent them on a quest to find out (because really you should know this by now it’s your own stat-).

Some states started to get concerned that Jersey wasn’t getting any rest, they never saw him leave that area of the backyard, and when New York heard about this he dragged Jersey away and forced him to take care of himself.

By the time the garden was almost complete it had been 2 months.

When the states got to see the area for the first time they were blown away, everything was done in a way that made sure that it was not only done state by state, but also in a way that made sure every flower and plant had the correct conditions for them to thrive.

No one knew how he did it, but Jersey was able to make everything look cohesive while still feeling like every plant got the spotlight. It felt like he took every chaotic thing that made America America, and made it better and cohesive.

He showed them another thing as well, a food garden and greenhouse, the greenhouse was already there when the states moved in but had been in disrepair, and the food garden was Jersey’s little side project, despite the fact that it wasn’t little and was basically bigger than the main garden.

In the end the garden is the one outdoor space that the states can properly relax in without arguing with each other, and whether that’s because of the garden itself or just a little bit of magic, is up to you to decide.

New Jersey-

Play Fights

Every region has their own thing that they do as a fun competition. The West Coast does comedy nights, where they see who can make the most people laugh. The South has what they call Hunt Offs, to see who’s the best hunter. And the Midwest likes to do cook offs, with the South being taste testers.

The North Coast has play fights, multiple rounds through the course of two days, normally held on a weekend. This includes Maine all the way at the top of the North Coast, all the way down to Florida, which allows for a larger roster.

It started as just a thing the New Netherland area did, over time it expanded to include the whole of the North East, then Delaware wanted Maryland to join and soon it spireled to the whole North Coast.

Of course it started out friendly enough, everyone tended to go a bit softer on Georgia since he isn’t nearly as rough as everyone else. Then North and South Carolina would make a bet when they fought, which had Pennsylvania open up a proper betting pool. The play fighting weekend always ended up with everyone sore to all hell and back, saying to themselves to never do this again and specifically never go up against New Jersey again.

Jersey was strong, while it didn’t visibly look like he could pretty easily lift 400 like it was 20, he could. However he often forgot just how strong he was compared to everyone else, it wasn’t like the rest of the states were weak but when compared to them, Jersey was like a powerhouse.

He isn’t too sure as to why he’s so strong, especially since he normally comes off as looking like a twig, however he did believe it was most likely something demon related. He knows his own demon, not father, father is no slouch in the strength department, and Jersey also knows that he could easily get his strength up more. 

It’s not like he wants to hurt the others, he really doesn’t, sure it’s a bit funny to have Northie pinned down after five seconds of fighting and sure it’s amazing to be better than Yorkie, but it doesn’t make up for the fact that he’s hurting friends, people who are basically his family.

Despite him being significantly stronger than the others, he never has actually won before. He always gets in his head when up against Yorkie, always ends up hurting him the worst, always dropping out after and just watches over the betting pools. 

It’s basically tradition at this point for Jersey to tend to everyone’s wounds after this, whether it’s early in the games or he and Yorkie were in the semi finals, it doesn’t matter. 

Jersey has a big heart, a big heart that can’t bear to see him hurt his family, so he’ll try to make up for it. Cooking for everyone involved, taking care of their wounds if Rhody brought a knife again (seriously he has got to stop doing that), just generally being a nicer person for a good week before he starts to go back to normal.

The next time the play fighting happens, the same thing will happen again, a vicious cycle that Jersey can’t snap himself out of.

I am so sorry for this being literal DAYS late, things happen but I still feel bad, anyway I shall deliver as it is better late than never!!

Doesn’t like planes (feel like it obvious why)

Can figure skate, likes to do so for 30 minutes as a warm up before hockey

He has a lot of scars, pretty much all on his chest and arms though he does have a good few on his legs

Met Delaware when he visited Netherlands home for the first time, he continued to visit every weekend until Netherland had to leave

Actually likes Netherland, way better than England that’s for sure

He found out that there was a another New state when he found New Mexico going through his kitchen, he still doesn’t have a single idea how NM had gotten there and neither does NM

Friendship bracelets, specifically Loom (the rubber bands)

He has some problems with his own humanity because while yes he is a state personification, he also had parents and has grandparents, something that pretty much every state except for a few have,  swimming in the Hudson didn’t help at all seeing as now he’s all sorts of something

While he and Jersey seem attached at the hip, they actually don’t spend nearly as much time together as the other states thing, yeah they are slightly attached at the hip but they will go weeks without a single hello at times

Hates change, he went through so much of it as a child that he can’t stand it now

He can’t really drive, like he has his license but is terrified to use it in his own state, he prefers public transport in the city rather than driving and always lets Jersey drive whenever they are in a car

He doesn’t like fireworks, they are pretty much way to loud for him to be okay

Oooooo yess, Texas was a fun one to think about because I had to think like a southerner slightly, and I live in Jersey lol (granted Jersey gets pretty southern if you go too far but I don't live there)

Texas-

Used to hunt a lot, however with the Table becoming slightly more important in the 2020s he had to slow it down significantly

Has a massive ranch, horses, cattle, chickens, you name it, Texas probably has it

Would actually kill someone (but specifically Cali) if they took his hat, there is no way he is letting Austin be in control for that long

His wires are slightly crossed, hence Austin or literally any of his cities (though honestly the cities being personified depends on the state, Texas has researched this before and it’s not worth asking why, you won’t get an answer)

Guns lol

Will occasionally just cough up oil, it’s not common but it is annoying

He’s not gay, at all, what so ever, he’s just a very straight cowboy livin his life (guess the lie here, hint: he is for sure livin his life and is a cowboy)

He doesn’t hate Oklahomo, he just wishes the absolute best for him and the absolute best is dying

Loves cooking as much as he does hunting, which is a lot, he’ll do it whenever he wants, for basically no reason, it’s a fun hobby for him

Has dinner every other Sunday with Mexico and other Spanish speaking countries, Cali, Arizona, and NM will also join from time to time

He likes history a lot more than people realize, he has to be good at it to say that it’s all fake duh

Hates snow, never wants it ever again, the one time he got snow he doesn’t remember BECAUSE HE BASICALLY DIED MAINE (he’s only slightly dramatic, he didn’t die but it sure did feel like it)

Made Jersey teach him how to make “proper pizza” since he taught him how to make a brisket

He’s tall, like 6’3 tall, he could technically go taller but 6’3 doesn’t make him feel like he’s stretching his skin

If he’s exhausted then he won’t understand a lick of English, he doesn’t get that tired often but when he does it’s turned into a game to see who can get him to bed first (It’s normally Alabama or Oklahomo- I mean homa, Oklahoma)

Went back to high school in the 2000s, an experience he doesn’t know if he regrets or wants to study under a microscope

Has three dogs, they are his babies along with his horses, he fought long and hard to convince Gov to let him have them at the StateHouse even with the no pets rule that like 3 people didn’t follow at the time

Loves Football, obviously, Sunday Football is spent outside with barbeque and the entire south, even if their team isn’t playing

Doesn’t actually hate Cali, he thinks that he’s an idiot and never knows when to shut up but he can admire how smart he actually is even if Texas would never say it out loud, and Austin, Austin was a big reason
