Thank you for the tips! I’ll make sure to try my luck at it :D
Hey I adore the way you color, it always creates such a sweet atmosphere and such beautiful scenes! (Especially in the Princes of Omens AU comic you're making right now!) Do you have any tips or tricks to how I could improve my coloring in a way? Since I've always just stuck to lineart but thats boring and doesn't give the feels your pieces always give! Thank you so much! I do it for a living so I have plenty of super easy tips and tricks to help a drawing look more unified!
When I’m finished coloring my piece with the flat colors I’m happy with this is what it looks like:
Then duplicate the layer, change the copy to a solid navy blue and set the layer to multiply and around 50% opacity:
Then I lock that multiplied layer up and start painting with white around the edges to give me that nice backlit look:
The next step is my favorite! I decide what the mood of the scene is and create a new layer on top of everything and just paint bucket the whole layer. For this scene I settled on a true blue (saturated midtones always seems to work best). Then I set that the layer to multiply at 100% opacity if it’s a night scene (like below) or vivid light at 10% opacity if it’s a day scene:
And lastly! I flatten it, duplicate and set the duplicate to soft light:
And that’s my process! You don’t need to mess around with any colors you’re not familiar with if you use this method, the filters take care of everything for you 😉
If you use this method tag me so I can take a look at what you create! 💕
I'm easy to make happy, which is why nobody gives a shit if I am.20 | He/It | Multifandom
