When I knew Will was gay in 2016, during the first party scene, it wasn't because of some stereotype. It wasn't anything he said or the way he looked or his mannerisms or whatever.
There are just certain behaviors that a queer person can recognise for what it is. That simple act of telling Mike it was a seven behind the party's back told me all I needed to know.
Because as a queer person, I've done that.
I've looked for that extra attention, that special connection, that idea of 'us two against everything else', even our other friends. Especially at that age, when you didn't even know yet what it meant.
And sure, it could be nothing, there could technically be another explanation. But ultimately it's a clear as day sign of young love as Lucas and Dustin stalking Max. Specifically, young queer love, which looks slightly different from heterosexual crushes.
So yeah, when straight people are able to 'tell' whether a person is queer it's usually based on stereotypes, because they could never get it, but that doesn't mean it's the same for queer people. That's ultimately what 'gaydar' has always been - recognising behaviors that make you go "oh they're like me" not the typical "oh they're wearing this" or "floppy hands" or whatever. Not "oh they cuff their jeans!" or "finger guns!".
That's why 'Byler is the gay ship for gay people' - queer people recognise their behavior for what it is. That's why the GA can't connect with Mike.
They can't fathom the fact that Mike wouldn't call Will at all if he had a crush on him. But as a queer person, you recognize how figuring out your feelings often means distancing yourself from them. Both because you're fighting your queerness and because it just hurts to be around them, even - especially - if they are your best friend.
As fun as the memes are, the leak is significant because of what it exposed about the no fly list and you should know what's on it. Here is a thread of a journalist explaining some of the stuff he found
slightly punk-looking teenager on a cop show: i wont talk. i know my rights
cops behind interrogation room glass: damn. this one teenager won’t cooperate. now we’ll never catch Fuckhands the Baby Murderer. and it’s all because the police doesn’t have absolute authority. this is terrible
grandmas across the world: damn, good point
I think the thing that drives me the most batshit about the medical fatphobia conversation is that the burden of proof feels so exactly backwards. Just from an obvious best practices standpoint???
Things like intentional malnourishment, intentionally incapacitating vital organs through surgery, denial of potentially lifesaving medical care until those things are done, etc.
Those are all pretty extreme. The kinds of things it feels like a “first do no harm” system should have a lot of solid evidence for before recommending or implementing them.
But they’re so bog standard and accepted and everyone from doctors to your own family will look at you like you’re a flat-earther when you suggest maybe we shouldn’t be defaulting to that.
I just want to say I have absolutely 0 sympathy whatsoever for anyone complaining about anything homeless people do. oh you saw human shit on the ground?? hmm maybe it's because THEY DONT HAVE A TOILET. oh you saw someone cleaning themselves in a public restroom? maybe because THEY DONT HAVE A FUCKING SHOWER. oh no a homeless person is living in a tent and you think it's ugly?? CRY ABOUT IT IN YOUR FUCKING HOUSE. oh my goodness homeless people sleeping on the ground and they're in your way!!!! yeah THEY DONT HAVE A BED
if seeing homeless people bothers you that much then good news! you have some choices! 1) let them all live with you in your house! 2) start pressuring your local government to stop criminalizing the homeless and start giving them financial and medical assistance! 3) shut the fuck up and die!
I think it really does speak for just how deeply there is something wrong with the online queer community that trans guys & mascs reaching out genuinely to say "we're dealing with a lot of issues that have gone completely undiscussed and it's bad enough that some of these things are killing us, and none of you even know they're happening" results in such a vitriolic response that there's been targeted harassment at every major blogger who's talked about it. like that's the immediate honest response to a plea for pain and suffering to be heard. what the hell.
idk man frequently i talk to trans men and mascs who basically tell me that they came out as queer or nonbinary years ago, but were terrified to come out as men or transition in a way that would mean they were perceived as male even though the dysphoria was crushing
specifically bc of rejection from their communities, from other queer people, other trans people, bc men are bad and awful
like. a fella told me earnestly he read this essay about how masculinity isn't inherently toxic from another trans man and im so glad it was positive for him and gave him the courage to transition, but it was horrifying to me that he should be made to feel so disgusted by his own gender that he needed that
esp bc once you're out as queer you're already rejected by mainstream society, so other queers are all you have - the prospect of being ousted and rejected from those spaces bc you become A Man is naturally terrifying
and its literally just rad fem rhetoric of men and masculinity = evil and bad that's infected queer spaces like a festering mould. ppl do it to cis gay and queer men as well, and also just to nonbinary ppl they perceive as cis men bc they don't like their language etc, and to trans men and mascs
ppl are sometimes like. surprised. when i don't apologise for being a man and assert that loving men is natural and beautiful, and reject the appeal of womanhood or women
as if that's not queer enough when like ??? hi???? my attraction to other men IS the queerness?
Should go without saying but never date a cop and christ never marry one. Rule of thumb if he's legally untouchable he's ethically unfuckable. You don't like that cop, you like buff men in tight clothing. I can show you more of those, better ones. Take my hand.
