Punctuating Dialogue
✧
➸ “This is a sentence.”
➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.
➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”
➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”
➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”
➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”
➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.
“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.
“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”
➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”
➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”
However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!
➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.
If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)
➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically express—“
“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.
➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.
➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”
➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.
“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”
➸ “If it’s the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.
“This shows it’s the same character continuing to speak.”
She is an icon. She is a legend. And she IS the moment.
Guess it's time to make a fanfiction for Marvel's Moon Knight.
Your harassing neighbor dies. Then a bullying coworker dies in a crash. Within a month, people you’ve had bad blood with start dying. The police are watching you closely—but you haven’t done anything… at least, not that you know of.
It's beautiful :')
Drawing pose used was of a Tobey Maguire pic. You can't tell me the pose doesn't fit.
I certainly felt that way when I was younger.
Being an old soul definitely has it's perks, but don't let an adult try to use it as an excuse for certain stuff. If a grown behind person tries to say, "You're so mature for your age" outside of a professional or decent context, RUN sis.
Who else feels older than their age?
There's no way MitsuKou isn't canon to me. None. And here's why. Literally in one of the manga chapters (I don't know which unfortunately), Mitsuba is crying because of the fact he's a ghost and will forever be a ghost---thus leaving him to be alone because no one else is like him.
And the FIRST words Kou says in response is, "Want me to die?"
(It's the no hesitation for me----)
Kou's response even had Mitsuba shook. Kou may as well have given him a love confession. And here's how I know this is romantic and not merely 'bromance material.'
Sure, if someone's willing to die for a friend, that's a pretty darn good friendship you got. But here's a question I have:
If this situation were to happen with Yashiro and Hanako (or any hetero pairing really), would y'all think this was purely platonic?
Someone is telling you they're literally willing to DIE and be a GHOST with you FOREVER (as in for all ETERNITY) all because they want to help you not feel alone navigating the world. I dunno about you, but that sounds pretty darn romantic to me. Mitsuba---since they first met----has been at LEAST 90% of what Kou thinks about on a daily basis. Kou loses sleep CONSISTENTLY from this guy. The only reason Mitsuba and Kou aren't officially a thing (as far as I know) because the series keeps making Mitsuba forcibly ghost Kou against his will (pun intended).
MitsuKou is canon, I don't care what anyone says or what AidaIro do to their relationship later on. I don't even care if they chose for these two to hate each other by the end of the series. They are CANON. Mitsuba: I just hate being a ghost and being so darn lonely. Kou: Bet, want me to die? Mitsuba: O_O And that's not even mentioning the time Kou took Mitsuba on a confirmed date to the aquarium.
I don't care what happens, bro. They're canon.
Mitsukou shippers have been eating good lately.
People complain about how Leon Kennedy (specifically in the Resident Evil 4 remake) shuts down Ashley's attempts to flirt/compliment him. Some take it as him being blunt, some take it as him not liking her, and some think he's plain dense. I personally choose to interpret it as him just trying to keep his job by not flirting with the client. He's being paid to protect, not be her boyfriend. I think most people would be hesitant to reciprocate interest in the daughter of a man who could easily order a national manhunt for your skull as he calls for secret service.
Hi! I saw your post concerning 'the dark and brooding' love interest. I have to say that's the smartest thing I've seen all day.
What are the main things you want more in Literature?
Mine would be to have more LGBTQ couples and Neurodivergent people having more main character privileges
Something I want more in literature is for characters to just be characters and not archetypes.
Sure, have all the 'representation' all you want, but if they're not fleshed out, then it's just commercialization.
"Look, we have a gay character---"
Okay but are they are person?
"Look, we have an interracial couple----"
Okay but do they have goals and interests?
"Look, we have this obscure group----"
Okay, but do they ACTUALLY have THOUGHTS and FEELINGS?
As a black lady myself, it feels like a slap in the face when writers aren't creative with making black characters or at the very least fleshing us out. This is why Tiana from Princess in the Frog is lit. Because she had goals, ambitions, and didn't let Naveeen get away with his bullcrap.
I have to get something off my chest real quick.
*inhale*
I don't ship Aoikane. I don't like it. Well, mainly because I don't like Akane.
Sorry :/
I will forever be anti whatever the heck this 'couple' is and I'm so glad I'm not the only one.
In InuYasha, Souta was 8 years old at the beginning of the series and 11 by the end of it (three years later). In Yashahime, Souta is apparently 26 years old, exactly 15 years later.
At the end of InuYasha, Rin would’ve been about 11 years old, as it was confirmed that she was 8 when the series began. Towa got lost and stuck in the modern era when she was around 4 years old. For 10 years she lived with the Higurashi’s before the rift opened back up. At this point, Souta is 26.
Do the math with me. If Yashahime takes place 15 years after the InuYasha finale … and Souta is 26 … and Towa and Setsuna are 14 … that would mean Rin gave birth to them when she was roughly 12 years old! This is disgusting! This is fanciful grooming and ephebophilia.
“But he didn’t groom her and he left her in a human village!” In the manga it was confirmed that he visited Rin regularly and left her gifts. He still treated her like a daughter/ward. You don’t eventually marry a little girl you raised … unless you’re Woody Allen.
“But InuYasha’s like, 150 years old and Kagome’s only 15!” In Japan the age of consent is 14 within a 5 year age gap. By the end of the series Kagome is also 18. Mentally and physically, InuYasha is an 18 year old, he didn’t meet Kagome when she was a child, and he didn’t RAISE her in a father-daughter scenario. Furthermore, they didn’t sleep together until Kagome was an ADULT!
Can ya’ll finally STOP shipping this extremely weird, borderline pedophilic, near incestuous relationship, please? If Rumiko Takahashi actually did this I will be beyond disappointed. No matter how you try to spin it, this ship is gross.
