The Crane Wife:
To make money the crane wife plucks her own feathers to weave silk brocade which the man sells, but she becomes increasingly ill as she does so. When the man discovers his wife’s true identity and the nature of her illness, devastated by the truth he demands her to stop. She responds that she has been doing it for love, for them. The man says that love exists without sacrifices but he is wrong. He who lives without sacrifices for someone else doesn’t deserve to be with a crane.
Kind of obsessed with this dynamic
There’s this shepherds boy and he asks…
anyways. drew this poster a while back. Beloved episode…
IN ANOTHER LIIIIIIIIFE
I WOULD BE YOUR GIRLLLLLLL
(we’d keep all our promises, be us against the world. in another life, i would make you stay.)
“take my hand.” “never!” [twelve takes spymaster’s hand]
“st-” “yes. i’ll stan- i’ll stay, my dear.”
on the one hand, it's so funny how every time the doctor has to introduce the master to new companions they never fail to mention that they used to friends. “this is my evil archenemy but we were in the academy together, we used to run in the red grass before the murder attempts” even though we literally just saw the master committing multiple atrocities.
but. on the other hand. the tragedy of it all. it's the doctor saying: this is the site of grief that's now a festering wound. this is scar tissue still tender to the touch, this is the relentlessness of memory. this is a ghost, this is a monster, this is a haunting, this is an unburied grave. this is love as terror, love as horror, love that came back from the dead as a hunger. this is what it means to remember. this was my first love and the only thing i cannot outrun.
and then we cut to the master who is committing more atrocities
Canon!Theta scares the crap outta me.
contender for the funniest bit of supernatural dialogue
