Okay Iām gonna rant for a second about something I love and that thing I love is Mortal Engines
It absolutely flopped at the box office and I always see people complaining about how the premise (the traction cities) doesnāt make sense, etc. etc. and first off, yeah, the movie doesnāt explain it as well as the books do, thatās fair, but SERIOUSLY? People are willing to suspend belief for all the shit that Marvel and DC do (plus every other superhero movie ever) and enjoy those films, among countless others that have outlandish concepts with little to no explanation, but for some reason people just. Refuse to suspend belief for Mortal Engines long enough to appreciate it.
Because there is so fucking much to appreciate! The world-building is incredible, obviously (even more so in the books). But the themes. Mortal Engines is a fucking commentary on imperialism and colonialism and I donāt understand how people donāt see that?? They donāt see London, a city dominated by a wealthy white elite, literally devouring lower-class cities and not see that? They donāt see London attacking Shan Guo, an alliance of predominantly people of color, and see that? They donāt see Valentine blaming Shan Guo for London not having enough resources and see how itās a deliberate depiction of racism and scapegoating by a colonial power?
All of these things are visible in the movie. Itās even more apparent in the books (go read the books), but seriously, there is enough of it in the movie to be easily recognizable and it just blows my mind that people fixate so much on how the concept is unrealistic instead of recognizing what an incredible metaphor Reeve built in his tetralogy.
Donāt get me wrong, the movie has plenty of flaws, including lots of changes from the book that I strongly disagree with! But I just wish people would move past their refusal to suspend disbelief long enough to recognize that thereās a lot of really good stuff happening in that film.
Thatās our polite darling boy! He just wants to know whatās happening.
He waves politely....
Still love ya however old ya are, Dad. Just be alive when I get home thatās all I ask. šš¤š
(I donāt ship Dad and his own son (Harry)
Professor Snape is 63 now.
He left Hogwarts a long time ago and started taking on apprentices. Being his apprentice is considered a great luck, and many would-be Potions masters dream of being trained by him.
He also has a laboratory, two tabby cats and Potter.
Professor hates 2023.
šššš i know dad did some horrible things, mum has too but nothing as bad as these āmaraudersā.
Marauderfen: omg wtf is wrong with you asshole! Snape used a racial slur when he was 15!! Why don't you Snape apologists ever acknowledge his flaws???!
Snapedom: yes it was really horrible to do that and being sexually assaulted is no excuse for it but the Marauders did bully Snape for amusement and we just think you guys should accept your characters' flaws too.
Marauderfen: they're literally precious cinnamon rolls who have done nothing wrong in their life have you even read fanfics about them?
Can i just become my familyās disappointment please? It seems so much easier to do that than anything the world expects from me.
I can see this happening in like the evening Jane gets home from school and Bert turns to Cec and goes āoh right! Itās night time, weād have to break in! Letās wait till the morning!ā
*after Bert hears Jane is being bullied*
Bert: Where does this guy live?
Cec: Bert, weāre not going to beat up a little kid.
Bert: Why not?
Cec: Why do you think?
No mother, Iām not being grubby, Iām just going for the beetlejuice aesthetic
(First time using that word so hopefully i used it right!)
I am a big finn x holley shipper, idk why, just am!
Please tell me Iām not the only one š
Happy Birthday to my father, the bravest man I know, my inspiration. While it may be a cruel twist of fate that we unintentionally share a birthday, may fate be kinder when bringing me home. Love you and Miss you, Dad! šš¤
