I was today years old when I realised that Kanen, the main villain in Moment of Truth whose terrorising Merlin’s hometown Ealdor is Alexander Sidding aka Dr. Julian Bashir from Star Trek Deep Space 9.

Now I wonder if there are fanfics of Dr. Bashir and Chief O’Brien in a simulation of King Arthur and Wizard Merlin that’s basically the Episode of the Moment of Truth.

Or one of these Time Travel episodes where they accidentally end up in the past and change something they have to fix so Bashir has to pose as Kanen and at the end they are like ???THAT was Prince ARTHUR??? AND MERLIN WAS A HOT YOUNG REAL WIZARD???

Gave the middle finger to Microsoft, its pushing of Windows 11, generative AI and all of the e-waste they're creating simply because older machines can't support the pure shite they're pushing, and installed Linux Mint.

Decided as well that there was definitely still life in my seven year old laptop and got a hold of a new battery from the manufacturer (I enjoyed the "this is quite an old model..." from the support line person).

Happy to report that the old girl's running like a dream now!

Loved all of the learning and unexpected good that came out of it.

I learned lots of new things, like the basics of Linux, how to flash a USB stick, how to open up my laptop with a screwdriver and a few guitar picks and how to replace an internal battery.

I connected with tech savvy friends for their advice and opinions, got excited with others about doing the same thing or getting into similar projects, used my local library to take out a book on Linux and borrowed a mini-screwdriver off of a colleague, who I'm in chats with now about laptop repair.

All this is to say, save your stuff from the wasteful destiny that's planned for it!

My fave plot bunny I've been pondering thus far after you launched me back into the fandom is an AU where Merlin's magic is discovered so obviously he flees Camelot, meaning OBVIOUSLY Arthur goes after him. Except that's not what Camelot thinks happened. What everyone else DOES think is that the evil sorcerer Merlin kidnapped their crown prince and is now holding him hostage, resulting in a slew of knights embarking on a 'rescue' mission to save Arthur from Merlin's evil clutches. Basically, this is just an excuse to subvert the damsel(Arthur) locked away in a tower guarded by a dragon(Merlin) au. Your art has literally inspired me soo much it's absolutely crazy. bbc merlin is a fun silly show that begs the question what if you were given a destiny you didn’t understand and you betrayed yourself time and time again in what you think is a selfless act of love that will serve a greater purpose, only for that to be the exact reason you fail and the undoing of the person you love most. and then the random filler episodes are like this witch is doing terrorism in camelot by sneaking magic mushroom bombs into the soup and merlin has to gaslight arthur into thinking he doesn’t like mushrooms or something idk
