I'm sick so you know what that means?
Another episode of...
Moving another thread across to here and it is a Yohna one you lucky sausages. It is a long post, I'll apologise now.
Spoiler for main series and some elements of Flowers
This was a non manga scene added to the 2001 series. I honestly believe that this scene was added in replacement of the moment Anna asked to stay with Yoh the night before he lives for America.
I believe that the 2001 production team wanted to give Yoh and Anna a scene alone before he left for America. Something to show them acting like a couple. To show that actually they do care for each other. But it had to be done in the most Yoh and Anna way.
Now, Yoh and Anna are a very private couple. Everything happens behind closed doors. Yoh and Anna are not about big declarations of love or PDA. Be it Takei's choice to portray them like this, or his refusal to write full on romance we will not speak on it . So this scene had to be very 'them'.
I mean, I pray for the day we finally get some flashbacks of baby Hana in Middle East. I will not shut up about it. I just want to see them FIGHT TOGETHER. Or just working together as a team because I NEED IT. Just let them be a cute married couple please.
GIVE ME THE YOHNA SPIN OFF TAKEI! I KNOW ANNA IS ONE OF YOUR FAVS. STOP DENYING YOURSELF. BRING HER BACK.
*ahem*
Anyway, back to the scene.
The lead up to this scene is pretty interesting. During school, Manta picks up that Anna has been acting weird.
It amazed me that Yoh did not notice her acting a little off. But, to be fair to Yoh, he has been training very hard and is super tired. The gang had recently been to China to rescue Ren, so our boy must be pretty exhausted, and more than likely falling a sleep in classes.
But omg, he is so clueless. Please help this man.
I mean, either Yoh is so distracted with other stuff, or he doesn't think Anna would be affected by his departure. They lived so long apart back in Izumo so why would this be any different?
I believe that having now lived with each other, their relationship had changed and they are now closer. They act more like a couple. I'm pretty sure by now they have had their first kiss and spoke about their feelings for each other.
Please also offer some thoughts on clueless Yoh 🙏
That is until....
Manta outright tells the gang that he is sad that they will all be leaving.
Yoh, Horohoro and Ryu have been acting like it is nothing, and just a part of their lives. Ryu does tell Manta that they do feel sad but they are dealing with it in their own way.
I think this is where the realisation clicks in Yoh's head that actually, Anna could be feeling the same. That she is sad too, but showing it in her own way. Maybe she did want to spend time together that evening? But I don't think Anna would ever meaningfully get in the way of Yoh seeing his friends. She knows how important they are to Yoh.
Yoh might have been sitting on this idea since the meal out with the guys, and he waited till the last moment to ask Anna to go for a walk.
I think this shows how nervous Yoh is about exploring his feelings with Anna, because who goes out for a walk just before they go to bed? When they are already in their nightwear?
I think that, in the 2001 anime, the emotions are there, but they are teenagers figuring out their feelings for each other and how to express themselves. I'm a romantic, sorry
Yoh is always a reassurance for Anna. She pushes him to become the best person he can become, and Yoh is always there to reassure and support Anna. They just work together so well. They are a team.
On their late night walk, they talk about normal stuff such as the Patch Village, the SK fight, Anna of course tells Yoh that he better not lose.
But I think there is more to be said about what they don't say, or hidden meanings.
I tell you, I can hear the brain clogs ticking in that little Asakura head.
After seeing Anna is cold, Yoh presents her with a warm drink.
We know Anna is always ordering Yoh around, but she never asked him go and get her a drink. Is it one of the first times in the show we see Yoh just do something for Anna without her asking or ordering him to do so.
YOHNA BIG BRAIN THEORY MOMENT 🧠
I struggle to word this but I will try. I feel like Anna is trying to keep her true feelings unwraps (as usual), but this time she is doing it to Yoh.
Anna is cold and is seen as trying to keep herself warm. She doesn't ask for help. She doesn't tell Yoh that she is cold. It is her issue and she will deal with it on her own.
Now let's apply that to her emotions.
Anna has grown close to Yoh and is now sad that he is going to America. There is a chance that she might not see him again, but she just carries on as usual. She doesn't tell Yoh she is sad or express it. She knows Yoh has to focus, and it is his duty to progress in the Shaman Fights.
Yoh and Anna are often said to have an 'unspoken communication', and this was one of those turning points as a couple.
I feel like they became stronger after this. And look, I know the scene could be classed as non-cannon as it didn't happen in the manga but its here and I'm going to talk about it!
ITS WARM!
Like his love for her! 😭😭😭
I read too much romance guys. I'm too loved up. I'm sorry I'm like this.
BUT LOOK AT HIS FACE!!!
Tell me this boy isn't in love!
Tell me he isn't thinking how actually, he is pretty lucky to have someone like Anna.
And really, no matter what they are about to face, everything will work out.
I don't know man. I love the addition of this scene in the 2001 version. Likely one of my favourites, along with a selection of others.
I'll go back into my hiding hole now. That was longer than I thought it would be, and it you made it to the end, well done 😌
This is so exactly what's going to happen
i have so many thoughts about this absolutely bonkers concept that has manifested itself
"For what?"
(Previous line by Jayce: "I need to get ready.")
Ugh, if only the gays could communicate.
In this scene, Heimerdinger has threatened - sworn - to have the HexCore destroyed "one way or another". Since they are running out of time to find ways to save Viktor at this point and the HexCore appears to be the only viable option, Jayce immediately resolves - however conflicted about it he feels - to go up against his revered mentor by having him voted off the council. For Viktor.
However: from Jayce's quieting footsteps as Viktor asks "For what?", we can tell that Jayce didn't stick around to tell Viktor of his intentions.
If ever there was a moment that perfectly encapsulates how Viktor never gets to see the full picture of Jayce, the full scope of his decisionmaking... it would be this one.
For all the times Viktor feels betrayed and abandoned by Jayce (and rightfully so), he equally often doesn't get to witness all the other actions/decisions that show how ultimately, Jayce will always put him first.
He sees Jayce looking starstruck by Mel, but didn't see him looking at Viktor the exact same way only hours prior.
He is aware of Jayce leaving him to his own devices at the lab, but not of how Jayce fled Mel's bed to come see him before he could have even known Viktor was sick.
He hears Jayce speak disparagingly about the Undercity only after worrying about Viktor and where he had disappeared to for days.
He knows that Jayce broke his promise to destroy the HexCore, but not of the wide-eyed desparation with which he scrambled for any way at all to save Viktor.
He notices the blueprints for HexTech weapons, but wasn't there for the attack on the memorial service.
And of course, he has Jayce attacking him multiple times, but can't see how much Jayce is fighting himself tooth and nail every step of the way to do it.
In the end, it literally takes Jayce forfeiting his entire existence for the chance to stay by Viktor's side for Viktor to finally realise all the things he never saw.
(Disclaimer: none of this is to say that Jayce's decisions were all good or justified - gods no - only that it's more complicated than that. Nuance, my beloved.)

That was toxic positivity. That was locking her in place as this static ideal that could never grow. But she wasn’t perfect. She was a fucked up mess, and she knew she was a fucked up mess. But by saying that she’s already perfect Silco basically told her there’s no way to get better. How can you improve, be better, if you’re already perfect?
Oh Vi. She tries so hard to connect with her sister and say the right thing but she just doesn’t quite get it. That’s essentially saying “you were evil before, I need you to be good now. I need you to be what I want.” Vi really tried her best and she wasn’t really conscious of it but she was always trying to mold Powder/Jinx into her vision, opposite but equal of Silco.
Jackpot. That was it. That was what she needed to hear. Because that doesn’t sit in judgement of what she’s done, that doesn’t condemn her mistakes or try to push her to conform to a particular vision, and it doesn’t lock her into some static ideal. It doesn’t even say that she has to change. It simply says that she doesn’t have to be completely, ontologically defined by her past. New growth is possible.
I mean. Yeah he ugly as hell in vanilla game. But he's a sweetheart so I like to imagine him a bit differently you know?
Wait you guys are actually attracted to Brynjolf? I thought it was a joke
Oh he so does. Joking about it is just the most comfortable way for him to reveal that. And yeah, he probably over exaggerates it for comic effect, but still. My hc is, my MC likes to tease him while they're chilling on the bean bags by resting her feet on him and watching him blush. The moment Bobby realizes she's totally cool with his fetish, there's no turning back for him. From that point their fun time in the hideout always starts with a foot massage :)
Okay but real talk, the important random question is:
Does Bobby really have a foot fetish or is it just a goof he latched into or some alternate third option?
...and go!

Hallo! Regarding your latest arcane scene analysis: did you see the post (i think it was on x originally) where someone theorised that the split images you can see of jayce in that scene are actually the jayces from alternate timelines? It just makes so much sense and goes with my personal headcanon that we only get to see a fraction of his conversation with the mage (for the purpose of heightened tension) because in their full convo he tells Jayce about what the other versions of him did/didn't do and how it led to the same bad ending. So mage viktor, by observing countless timelines has figured out that it is necessary for jayce to kill viktor then, because he needs to reach the point where his mind gets absorbed and try to break through to him in that moment.
Anyway, sorry for ranting & i love your scene analyses 🙌
(This ask came in response to part 17 of the "Underrated JayVik moments" series.)
I did see that! (...If this is what you're referring to, that is 😅)
I thought it was an interesting catch, definitely - but I gotta be honest, your additions here are far more compelling to me.
I agree that it makes the most sense that what we see is not the full conversation (after all, that would mean their dialogue went straight from "Only you can show me this." to "Send me back!" which would be... very weird). However, somehow I never considered that the omitted parts may have included a line to the effect of "You will want to explain things to him. Don't."
Is it a fully satisfactory explanation, given that we don't get to see or hear any of this? No, not really. But yours is still a better working theory than anything the show gives us, so... what the hell, sure. 😂
(Hm, now that I think about it, while I don't know that I am fully on board with the idea that Jayce's "splitting" is simply him being haunted by literal tethers to alternate timelines, I could definitely see it as symbolic: Haunted, instead, by everything he would rather do than what he knows he is about to do.)
I'm also intrigued by the implication that the timeline mage!Viktor shows Jayce is the one that, in fact, almost succeeded (since everything, down to the position of Jayce's corpse, is more or less the same as it would have been) - with the difference being only that without also sending Ekko to the other timeline, the time rewinder wouldn't be invented and used to buy Jayce another chance to break through to Viktor.
It makes me think that perhaps, the timeline mage!Viktor shows Jayce is not actually his own, original one (which would also explain his vastly different appearance to the Arcane Herald), but instead the latest one. Again - the one that almost succeeded.
I needed that 😩
I'm currently writing my first serious fanfic and it's probably going to be like 20+ chapters. I have so many ideas and they all start to interlace and form an interesting story.
The thing is, I have very strong visual imagination but I'm not that good with words (even though I studied literature - dropped out bc writing papers on schedule gave me lots of anxiety)
So anyway I would imagine the scene in my head in every detail. I can see the "camera" angles, the mood, everything. But when it comes to writing it down, I sit on ONE sentence for approx 15-30 minutes struggling to find the right words.
And then I'm all excited telling my friends I wrote 5 pages last week and one of them goes "That's not that much, I write 30 pages in two evenings"
Like, why would you say it like that? Why compare? Did you feel better? Bc I certainly didn't.
This is for the slow writers out there. Those who take weeks to write one chapter. Those who take years to finish one manuscript. Those who regularly write only 100-300 words in several hours. Those who take months to put out a new chapter. Those who haven’t touched their stories in years but it’s still a WIP because they can’t stop thinking about/taking notes for scenes/etc.
I see you. You’re valid. Keep up the good work!
