contents: 1.5k words, fem!omaticaya reader, angst, swearing
authors note: AHHHH first chapter i'm so excited to post this guys!! thankuu to all my mooties that helped me brew this series
Nothing could ever surmount to the despair you felt that day. The day he looked into your weeping eyes, looked right into your aching soul, and told you he was leaving.
Leaving. You begged him to take you with him. Pleaded with his pained expression to let you stay with him. To take you with him. To walk every journey together.
But he didnât. He shook his head, pursing his lips that have kissed you for the last time. Crossing his arms that embraced you for the last time. He said no. One simple word that crushed your entire self.
âIt wonât be safe, I canât take you from the forest, this is your home.â No. No he was your home! He was your everything. The last face you look at when you say goodnight to the day left behind you. The one you would run to, so you could tell him everything good and bad. The man you imagined your entire life to be with.
That same man who was running from his home, to never return back to you.
You pleaded with him, crashing onto your knees, wrapping your arms around his torso. Crying into him as you begged to accompany him. How could he leave you? How could he have the heart to tear out yours.
âY/NâŠlet go.â His deep voice ring deep in your ears. You knew he was talking about your physical grip on him. But it felt so much deeper. Let go. Let go of us. Let go of everything we ever were. Let go of me.
You shook your head desperately, hands still clinging to his body. The rough soil beneath you cutting into your knees but no cut would ever be as deep as the one he had laid into your soul.
It was as if the hands he took to pry your frail body off him were the daggers that were slicing up your heart. Leaving wounds so deep they would never heal. How could you ever heal from this?
You looked up at him, tears letting his cheeks dampen, his face showing nothing but grief as he met your hurt eyes.
âI have to goâŠY/N you know I have to.â You did. You knew you had no say in this. Your words were insignificant to begin with.
His figure crouched down in front of you. Wiping the salty tears that stained your cheeks. He saw the way your chin quivered as he caressed your beautiful face.
A salty, sweet kiss was the last one you ever shared with him. A kiss you both cried into, gripping onto each other knowing it was the last time. It was bittersweet. To share a moment so close together only to be ripped apart.
All that connected you both was memories. Memories that now serve you nothing but hurt.
Five years had passed. Five dreadful years.
You were now a 20 year old woman. Adorned with your Hometree bow and the physique of a fit warrior. Though no amount of time could ever heal the cuts he left so deep in you.
For the first year, you were nothing but a shell. Never eating, never sleeping. You simply existed. Which was a chore to do without him.
You wished nothing but to stop existing. To stop experiencing every bit of sadness, every bit of grief. To stop mourning the loss of the only man you could ever love.
Tears were your most worn accessory, no one ever daring to tell you they looked bad. Too scared to send you spiralling even more than you already had.
Though, those times you spent rocking in your hammock. Looking at the stars that lit up the night sky, those cuts that ran deep within you, the cuts that caused so pain. They started to seep.
Started to seep blood red rage.
How could he ever have left you? Was he so selfish to not think of the effect this would have on you? Did he simply not care?
How was the one time he decided to act selfishly be the time wounded the one who loved him most? To be so selfish, to claim he would be keeping you safe.
Safe to what? The sky-people that reigned free through your planet. Constantly on the verge of war to aliens that had no consideration for your people. Just like he had no consideration for your heart.
You wanted to hate him. You wanted to hate him so bad, that every memory of him would fade into a blood red image of evil. That every memory would turn into a disgusting thought of a disgusting man.
You wanted to hate him with every fibre in your body. But you couldnât.
Maybe thatâs when everything stopped looking so blood red. When everything dulled out. Nothing mattered, he would never come back.
So with a tainted heart and an aching soul, you accepted that you would never experience the love of your mate every again. Never feel his touch, hear his voice, smell his scent, taste his kisses. You would never be with him.
Thatâs were Vaâtep entered into your life. Barging into your knocked down walls and building a crappy foundation.
Vaâtep, Tarsemâs younger brother. One year your elder. A fierce warrior, a man who refused to lose, a man who claimed what was his. And to him, you were his.
Your parents always longed for status. To be high up in the clan. You were their golden ticket, finding your way into the heart of Toruk Maktoâs eldest son. They rejoiced in your heartâs residence, rejoiced in the fact that you fulfilled their one wish. They were your number one advocate. Pushing you to train for your rite of passage ever since you became closer with the boy. They worked every inch of their being towards the union between the pair of you.
But the hard work washed away as fast as the waterfall plunged.
Washing away all your dreams, your happiness, your meaning. It washed away your parentâs status, Vaâtep being the life guard that pulls them out of the strong currents.
Nothing could ever amount to him though. Your heart resided with someone else as your body laid with his. You felt yourself fill with shame every time you shared a touch. A shiver of disgust running down your entire body. Breaking the vow of your love towards the boy who broke you.
âWhereâs your head at beautiful?â That was what he called you. Beautiful. His voice would never be as sweet as his. Never send the right shivers through you.
Vaâtepâs calloused hands caressed your cheek, so rough it felt as if he was dragging you with his touch. Everything he did was rough. Rough like the soil you pleaded on.
Maybe this was Eywa laughing in your face. Giving you a man so opposite to the man you craved so desperately. Even after 5 years, Eywa would never let you forget those memories.
Shrugging his hands off your body, he let out a low hiss. One that showed his offence towards your actions. A hiss so quiet, it would only be heard if you cared. But you didnât. Something else was clouding your mind, taking your attention away from him. And it wasnât just your past lover.
You made your way towards the growing crowd of people that formed around the entrance of Hometree. Vaâtepâs calls after you were silenced by the gasps and whispers of your people that were creating confusion that bubbled in your stomach.
Pushing yourself to the front of the crowd, definitely stepping on the feet of others. You looked for the source of the commotion. Ears perking up and eyes squinting to find the one thing people were gawking at.
Though now as you look towards the source, you wish you minded your business. Everything was coming back. Every emotion, every curse, every thought, every tear. They all fell on top of you, crushing your soul as you let out a small whimper in fear.
The source was making its way towards you. No. No. NO. This canât happen. This cannot be happening. Feet stumbling as you paced backwards, avoiding looking straight ahead.
Dread filled your entire being. Filling it from your toes until it felt as if it would spill out of you, gurgling in the pits of your stomach. No. No. NO.
Crashing into the back of a person, you were forced to halt your escape. Frozen in shock as you looked at the man who had broken your heart and given it back to you.
Lips quivering, tears pooling in your eyes. He reached his hands towards you. How could he come back? Why was he back? This is all some sort of sick dream. A nightmare.
âMy beautiful girl.â His voice was deeper, still so sweet it would cause a cavity. It enticed you. You had been without his voice for so long.
So longâŠbecause he left you. Because he was cruel and selfish.
Shaking your head profusely, just like you did that dreaded day. Your hands shook as you pointed at him, an accusatory finger aimed at him as your mind swirled.
âIâm here now.â He should have never left, he should have NEVER left. What a sick fuck. To come back expecting open arms when all you wanted was to never have your arms leave him. âBeautiful? What is it?â
âI am not your beautiful, Neteyam.â

Aoânung x Fem!Metkayina Reader
warnings: angst(?), panic attack, blood, lmk if I need to put anything else.
context: Aoânung finally completed his Iknimaya and was ready to confess to you! It was all going so great until it wasnât. News had been announced that (y/n)âs village was attacked and many of their people were injured and needed help and (y/n) was one of them.
AN: âŠI hope this meets up to your guys expectations and that you like it! I did my best as this was the first time writing something sad đ IMSOSCAREDOFYOUGUYSREADINGTHISAHHHMYANXIETY.
Part One
It had been a couple of years since Aoânung and (Y/N) had seen each other. They had been so busy with their training, (Y/N) becoming the TsahĂŹk and Aoânung the Oloâeyktan, that they never could find the right time to see one another. Itâs always one of them was doing something on the day the other one wasnât.
Even though they never saw each other in person that didnât stop them from still keeping contact in other ways. They had been writing letters and sending gifts back and forth keeping each other updated on their lives.
At the time since they were so young they didnât realize, that actually counted as courting each other. And thatâs when their parents knew you guys had already chosen each other since day one and they had been secretly talking about merging the villages together one day.
Aoânung once in a while would send (Y/N) handmade jewelry and headpieces that he learned to make from his mother and sister. He was very proud of it too. And in return (Y/N) would send him jewelry and armbands that she had beaded and woven herself.Â
He remembered the first time he received a necklace she had made, it had a reef bird talon. He was shocked when he unwrapped it and immediately put it on. To this day he still wears it around his neck along with other stuff you had made him like his armband, or the bracelet that had been made with familiar beads, they were the same beads you had in your hair when you guys first met and he wore them with pride.Â
Even though the letters and gifts made him happy and he was glad they were able to keep in touch with each other. He finds himself longing to be in person with you, when they first met it was an instant connection as if Eywa herself had sent you to him.Â
He prayed to Eywa every day thanking her for bringing you into his life and that he wishes to see you again. He remembered holding your hand for the first time, how soft and tiny it was compared to his, and when he stared into your eyes it was like time stopped and it was just you and him in the world without a worry.
At that young age, Aoânung had already made up his mind that it was you who he wished to spend the rest of his days with. It was you who he wanted to be his TsahĂŹk for his people, It was you who he wished to wake up next to every day, It was you who he saw carrying his future children. It was always you, and forever will be, and be prayed that you felt the same.Â
Today was a special day for Aoânung, he had finally finished his Iknimaya and tamed his Skimwing, all that was left was choosing a mate.Â
But he already had, it was you.
At that moment Aoânung sat along with the whole village as they all celebrated for him, although he was supposed to be happy he had a bad feeling about today, that something bad was going to happen. But he only pushed it to the back of his head. Today was going to be good no matter what. He wonât let some silly feeling ruin it.Â
The atmosphere was lively and joyful, with children playing with each other, elders making jokes, and teens playing traditional Metkayina games.Â
How could he not be happy right now?
He began to eat the fish that sat on the plate in front of him and made conversation with Rotxo and the friends that were nearby.Â
All of a sudden a warrior from Taâunuiâs clan rushed in and headed toward his father and mother with a worried look on his face.Â
As Aoânung watches his parent's expressions of whatever the warrior had said to them, he knew it was nothing good.Â
The bad feeling started to come back again and it made him feel sick to his stomach. Something happened. Something really bad.
His father stands up and clears his throat loudly and it gets everyoneâs attention.Â
âI need everyoneâs attention! We have just gotten news that the Taâunuiâs village had been attacked and many of the people were injured including the Oloâeyktanâs family.â Tonowari announced as his eyes immediately land on his son.Â
âI need all hands on deck. Clear your Maruiâs as we need all the space we can get to give our brothers and sisters sanctuary. If you see someone in need of help please help them with all that you can. I need everyoneâs help with thisâ
As Tonowari said his final words the happy joyful atmosphere turned serious and everyone rushed back to their maruiâs getting prepared to help them in need.Â
Ronal and Tonowari look at their son, He still stood in the same place he was. Tsireya shook his shoulder calling out his name but getting no response. She looked over to her parents with a worried expression.Â
Aoânung began running as fast as he could, pushing past his parents, towards the water where the people had been rushing in from on ilus and skimwings screaming in horror and in pain while carrying their loved ones, some lifeless, and some who were just merely hanging on to the little conscious they had left.Â
When he said he wanted to be with you in person this what not what he meant, this had to be some cruel joke. Why did this happen? Did he make the great-mother upset? Why?Â
His eyes traveled from person to person as they ran past him. His thoughts were scattered everywhere right now he could barely think straight.Â
A piercing ringing echoed in his ears cutting out all the sounds, all he could hear was himself breathing and the thumps of his heart.Â
He felt his hands begin to shake with anxiety, and he finds himself barely taking in full breathes as he was hyperventilating it made him feel sick and dizzy as if the world was spinning fast while his heart thumped erratically as if it were to jump out his chest and land into the sand.Â
Where were you? Weâre you okay? Were you hurt? Are you even alive? How was he even supposed to find you? He hasnât even seen you since you were 7 years old. His thoughts overwhelm him and started to make him even more dizzy. He hunched over with his hands on his knees as he tries to slow down his breathing.
Finally getting ahold of himself closes his eyes and forces himself to slow down his breathing, as he did the ringing began to stop and the cries from the people began to fill his ears again.Â
He opens his eyes and starts to run into the water, he looks around looking for possibly your father, maybe if he found your father you were with him, but he was out of luck as he couldnât find him.Â
Continuing to look around he spots a woman on her skimwing desperately screaming for help while holding a girl in her arms that were covered in blood.Â
He sighs as prays to Eywa that you were okay before quickly calling for his newly tamed Skimwing and heading towards the mother and assuming it was her daughter.Â
As he gets closer he looks at the girl laying in the mother's arms and looks at the girl's neck which had a necklace with a familiar shell on it.Â
No, it canât be.
He tells his Skimwing to go faster.
âNo no no no this canât be, please donât let it be (Y/N)â
Once he reached them the mother instantly cries for help, telling him her daughter is deeply wounded.
His eyes began to cloud forming tears as your mother shoved you in his embrace, pleading for him to rush you to the TsahĂŹk as she had to go back for more people.Â
He nodded his head without a word and began to hold you close as he rode back to shore, he could feel your blood seep out and onto his hands and legs but he didnât care about that, what he cared about was whether you were even alive or not. Â
â(Y/N) hey itâs going to be okay! We are almost there okay?! Just hold on a little bit longerâ he whispers to you while he was actually trying to convince himself.Â
Finally, after what felt like forever he had reached the shore, he quickly undid the bond and began screaming for his mother as he ran to her with you in his arms tightly held against his chest as it turns red.Â
Ronal hearing her son screaming rushes forward, a loud gasp leaving her lips at the sight she saw.Â
Her son holding the love of his life in his arms with blood covering both of them, tears were streaming down his face as he could barely breathe properly, with hiccups between each breath.Â
She quickly yells for Aoânung to follow her as she runs to the nearest healing Marui. She tells him to carefully set her down as she began to grab every single paste and medicine she could find.Â
Aoânung sat on his knees the whole time never leaving your side, holding your hand in his as his mother began to work on healing you.Â
He prayed and prayed to Eywa to let you be okay, that this was not your time to be with her. You were still so young and had such a long life to live, there was still so much you havenât gotten to explore. So much thing that he had not been able to tell you, to show you.Â
He even had this whole day planned out for you and him.Â
Aoânung and his father were going to travel to your village to surprise you and your family after the celebration, He was going to do this big thing where he personally went to your parents giving them the handmade gifts he had been working on for the past week ranging from baskets to jewelry, to spears and the fish that he had been catching all day that would feed your siblings and parents, he prepared so much so that he could ask your parent's permission to court you, to be mated with you and become one with Eywa.Â
He had even been practicing a speech for your father, telling him that he would take good care of you for the rest of your life and that he could trust him, he would make sure you always had a secured roof over your head and how you would always have food and would never become hungry, How he would protect you with his whole life from any danger and he was willing to do anything for you, he would worship the ground you walk on.Â
But how was he supposed to do that now as he sat there next to you and watched your body lay as if almost lifeless?Â
How was he supposed to confess the love that he has had for you since he was 8?Â
How was he supposed to show you the secret underwater cave spot, that since the day he found it, he couldnât wait to take you there?
How was he supposed to grow old and have a family with you as you both watch your kids grow older and become the next Oloâeyktan or TsahĂŹk?
He let out a deep sigh, He began to scan your face, finally taking in what you look like and how you have grown over the years. You were beautiful.Â
You were the most beautiful girl he had ever laid eyes on. With your long dark hair and a beautiful shade of aqua skin, perfectly round eyes. Even at this state he still found you beautiful. You were perfect every way in his eyes.
As his eyes trail over your face his gaze falls downwards and the necklace she was wearing caught his attention.Â
He remembers the memory as if it was yesterday, he saw the way your whole face went from scared and shy to lit up and excited. He remembered the way his heart started beating faster and was scared that you would be able to hear it.Â
Tears began to fill his eyes.Â
â(Y/N)âŠI love you, please donât leave before I can tell you these words. Please fight and come back to us, Eywa please help her find her way back to me, back to her parents, back to her younger siblingsâ He whispered as he held your hand to his chest, tears began to fall from his eyes as he breaks down, feeling his heart throb in pain, feeling this it was slowly cracking, falling into little pieces.Â
Ronal and your mom both were there working on healing you, they had done everything the could and now what was left to do was pray to Eywa.
And Eventually, after a couple of days you had finally begun to heal, getting better as the days passed but still had not worked up which worried Aoânung.
He still hasnât left your side too scared that if he left you would disappear again. His parents and your parents would come in and visit to check up on him and you. They all had that same face of pity as they looked at the both of them.
Of course the day he had went out to finally go bathe properly, he had just wiped your blood off him with a cloth and water though his skill still stayed stained.
You finally woke up.
As you open your eyes it was so bright that you could only close the again but then the sound of someone entering in the Marui reached your ears and the light soon was covered by something or maybe it was someone as you could hear their breathe come in and out shakily. Opening them again you look up and meet the eyes of someone else.Â
The eyes were familiar and brought instant comfort as you began to tear up at the boy and also remember the events that had happened. It was pain and happiness all at once. You couldnât believe who was sitting there in front of you.
âAoânung is it really you?!, I didnât think I would see you again after our village got attackedâ you whisper as your voice was hoarse. You stared up with at him in adoration with tears turning your vision blurry with a faint blush creeping on your cheeks.
The years have been very kind to him, he grew up to be a very handsome man that caught all the girls attention, and that crush you have had on him since you were a little girl only grew more the very second.
âYeah it really is me,â Aoânung said while caressing your face in his hands, wiping the tears falling from your eyes with his thumb. âLong time no see huh? You changed quite a bit thereâs no more little girl that cowards behind her father, I see you young beautiful woman and warrior even, is that a tattoo already? You completed your Iknimaya before me?!â he tried to enlighten the mood but it didnât help the fact that he was crying with tears streaming down his face as well.Â
You caress his face back with one hand and he leans into your touch kissing your palm. âI know, crazy right?â You tried to laugh but it was cut off as you cough and wince at the pain that came from your abdomen.
âHey take it easy, your still healing, you had gotten shot , and you have burns on your legs. But hey on the bright side imagine how cool the scars are gonna be aye? Your gonna look so badassâ you blush and lightly hit his leg. âStop making me laugh it hurtsâ
He could only laugh himself with a big smile on his face. His happy mood quickly shifting into a serious one as began to talk. His hands moves from your face to hold one of your hands kissing the back of it.
âYou know, I wanted it to be more romanticâŠI had this whole plan set up for youâŠbut I have to tell you now.â Aoânung begins to speak between sniffles.Â
You tense up a little worried about what he was going to say.
â(Y/N), when we first met each other, even though we were just kids I knew there was a connection, and I knew that you were gonna be someone that I hold dear to my heart. And when I gave you that necklace, the way your eyes lit up as you saw it and you looked at me with a big smile...I made it my goal to make sure you always had that look on your face even when we werenât together. I was so sad when you left and we werenât able to meet up, but when you sent me that little letter you wrote about how much you missed me. Thatâs when I fell, I fell in love with you though out the years. You make me the happiest man since day one of meeting you and if you give me permission, I want to spend the rest of my days with you. I love you (Y/N), I see youâ
You wipe the tears out of your eyes and nod your head while sniffling. Slowly you sit up and lay your forehead against his, you both stare into each other's eyes basking in the other one's presence.Â
âI see you, Aoânung. I wish to be by your side foreverâ

With a straw between your slender fingers, you swirled your drink in a slow manner, the clattering sound of ice cubes mixing in with the beautiful melody of a saxophone playing in the background.Â
Rather than loud and crowded, the dim light of the pub and the relaxing music was exactly what you deserved after a long mission as a double agent in the most dangerous and violent villain gang Japan had ever faced.
Your duty ended last night as you excused yourself from the group, claiming you had things to take care of, when in reality the pro-heroes were about to execute their attack.Â

My heart â€ïž
Sharing a love with Bakugou thatâs absolute.
Imagine being the one to mend Bakugouâs broken heart.
Maybe you didnât manage to get to Bakugou in time, so heâs already experienced his firsts with someone else. It was a case of wrong time, wrong place but fate was finally aligning to try and bring you together.
And itâs hard enough to get close to Bakugou Katsuki at the best of times, but itâs even more difficult when heâs had his heart broken.
Heâs closed off, guarded and doesnât want to get hurt again. He tells himself itâs better this way, that the pain felt experiencing a break up wasnât worth the love he felt in the relationship. That thereâs no point trying to find love again or letting it happen, so he cuts everyone off.
Thatâs why he ignores the way his heart pangs for you, the heavy flutter of it against his ribcage like petals blowing in the wind. Convincing himself that the love he would experience with you isnât worth it, because love never lasts. So every time you feel yourself getting close to him, he pulls back. That same voice in the back of his head telling him that heâs not worthy, that heâs not good enough.
It brings him back to that feeling that he was never worthy of love, so of course he continues to believe he doesnât deserve it. And if he opened himself up to you, youâd realise it and leave him just like the rest. So keeping you at a distance is easier than convincing himself that youâll love him the same way back.
Of course, his friends donât want him to get hurt again either. After experiencing the aftermath of his breakup first hand. Bakugou reverting to the angry teenage boy who handled his feelings through anger, shouting at his interns and burying himself in his job. Running himself into the ground to try and mask the hollow feeling in the pit of his stomach, because if heâs too tired to think maybe heâll be too tired to feel.
But thereâs something about you that they see, something they can tell is just perfect for Bakugou. So as fiercely protective Kirishima is, and how much he doesnât want his friend to get hurt anymore, he encourages you to try.
Because thatâs all you can doâ try.
So you do. You try, and you manage to pull Bakugou out of the darkness. To show him that he can feel a love again thatâs honest, pure and real. But thereâs something different as he begins to find himself falling for you, itâs not the same love that he experienced before. Itâs differentâ
Absolute.
And now heâs wondering whether he was ever really in love before? Whether heâd wanted something to work so badly that heâd framed the perfect picture of his relationship in his mind, but that moment had lead him to find you.
It takes time to heal a broken heart, but the repair gives space to love again, and to be loved again. So youâll take his broken heart and mend it, wondering how his ex could have ever wanted to fracture it because thereâs absolutely no way youâre throwing Bakugou away.
Itâs like you were the missing pieces of the puzzle that each other needed, and now Bakugouâs convinced heâs never been in love before. Because being in love with you is like nothing heâs ever experienced before, and he hates that he made himself wait so long to experience it.

Anything written in italics is spoken in Na'vi
âKeep up!â Jake snaps at me as he holds a large leaf back. âNeytiri hates having to wait.â I pass by the leaf and roll my eyes.Â
âI saw that.â His tail flicks with annoyance.Â
âYou were supposed to,â I retort back with a smile. He shakes his head and keeps leading me towards Hometree. Jake has been selected by the Omatikaya to learn their ways. Which is what Tom and I had trained for, before he died. So now Iâm on Pandora with Jake, the most overprotective and annoying older brother, ever.Â
 As if reading my thoughts, he turns back and raises his eyebrows at me. âWhat?â
âNothing.â I shrug innocently. âI just canât believe they chose you.âÂ
âYea well, join the club. I think Norm is the president of it.â He flicks his braid behind him and picks up his pace. I laugh before almost stumbling over a thick root. Iâm still getting used to my avatar body and my large boots only make it harder.Â
âYou know, itâd be easier if you ditched the Earth clothes,â Jake says without turning around. Iâm about to sass him when I snap my mouth shut. Jake worked hard to convince Neytiri to consider training me; I owe him one.Â
We move quickly, Jake making his way easily through the terrain as I stagger behind him. Pandoraâs forest glistens above me. Animalâs Iâd only ever studied, jump from branch to branch, making foreign sounds. Flowers that glow and twirl, sprout from around my feet. I want to sit and take samples, Grace would love that. But Jake wouldnât stop, not for that.
âAnd,â Jake begins, breaking the silence that had settled between us,âplease be respectful. Respect is big to the Omatikaya.âÂ
Seriously? Itâs like Jake forgets that Iâm that one who actually trained to come to Pandora. I raise my hands up in a sarcastic surrender. âIâll be so respectful. I learned from you, big bro.âÂ
Jake narrows his eyes. âDonât be a smartass.âÂ
âWell, I am the smart one.â
Jake scoffs. A colorful prolemuris chitters innocently as it hangs from a nearby branch. I raise an eyebrow at my brother. He opens his mouth to say something when a blue figure falls elegantly through the trees.Â
I recognize Neytiri instantly as she lands in a crouch, her eyes wide. I freeze, full of shock that she just jumped from so high. Jake smirks at the surprised look on my face. I suppress the urge to stick my tongue out at him. Neytiri slowly stands and takes a step towards me. Her eyes rake over my body, taking in my five fingers, long hair, and eyebrows. She takes another step closer and sniffs before grimacing slightly as if I smell. I pull my arms closer to my sides.Â
âOne smartass is enough,â she mumbles as she inspects my sky people clothes. She walks behind me and flicks my tail.Â
I jump before turning to her. âTrust me, I am actually worth it.âÂ
Neytiriâs eyes shoot to my face, making eye contact with me for the first time. I smile at her, trying my best to seem friendly, which is not my strong suit. She tilts her head to the side. âYou speak Naâvi?â
âYes, I studied it before coming here.âÂ
âSo you are not a warrior, like Jake?â
Jake tenses at the recognition of his name. âHey, English please?â
Neytiri doesnât react to his plea, her stony eyes remain on me. Jake looks at me, his ears laying irritatedly against his head. Â
I could lie to Neytiri, tell her that Iâve never been a warrior and never had any training, that I am simply a scientist. But my insides twist at the thought. Something in the way Neytiri is studying me, I know if I lie, sheâd see right through me.Â
âI was a warrior,â I say, the words bitter in my mouth, âBut now Iâm a scientist.âÂ
The sudden silence is deafening, itâs like the forest is holding its breath, waiting for Neytiriâs response. She continues to stare, her thoughtful yellow eyes lingering on my chest, as if she sees my anxious breath. Then, she straightens herself and looks at Jake. âI will teach your sister and you.âÂ
His shoulders relax. âThank you.âÂ
âThank you,â I repeat.Â
She raises her head. âCome.âÂ
~~~
Naâvi clothes are not clothes. Theyâre thongs and bras trapezing around as if they are clothes. I stare in a dusty mirror, my blue body with hardly any covering stares back. I groan.
Neytiri had walked me through some side entrance of Hometree, claiming that my sky people clothes would not be welcome here. Weâd walked up an outerspiral of the tree. Small fires lit the way as we ran on the smooth bark until we came to a miniature alcove. Sheâd given me some loincloths before ordering me to change and leaving.Â
Now, I try again to arrange the cloths over my parts. I yank at the string covering my butt. The material flaps uselessly before falling down again, covering nothing. What Iâd do for some shortsâŠÂ Â
Neytiri rounds the corner as I have one finger up my ass trying to shove the material further over.Â
âArgh!â She exclaims as she rushes over and swats my hand away. âWhat are you doing?â
âI donât think these clothes fit.âÂ
Neytiriâs eyes go flat and she looks at me like Iâm an idiot. âThey fit.âÂ
Iâm about to protest when she pushes me out of the alcove. I stumble slightly, before my bare feet find their balance on the downward spiral. Hometree is massive, the inner spirals are a confusing maze, one that intrigues me. The inner layout isnât in any textbook. I would be more than ecstatic if I didnât feel so naked. Neytiri walks in front of me. Her shoulders are loose but I can sense her peeking at me from the corner of her eye.Â
âThe clan is gathered for dinner. Jake is already there,â Neytiri explains as we reach the ground level of Hometree. The entire floor is covered with Omatikaya, warriors, healers, and families. Young children run past us, their tails flying behind them as they call after each other. The roar of conversation fills the space as people settle on the ground to eat. Â
Neytiri keeps walking, accustomed to the beauty of her clan. I follow her, taking in every detail of my surroundings. The beaded headwear certain men wear, a game with marbles that children are playing, and the soft beat of drums. Clan members stare openly at me. Some of them are curious, their ears perked up; but most of them glare at me.Â
âDemon,â a man hisses as I pass. I jolt at the fierceness of his voice. Neytiri grabs my shoulder and forces me forward before I have a chance to respond.
Jake sits criss crossed with his back against the far wall, a small distance away from any other clan members. His face brightens when he sees us. The closer we get, he begins to grin. Once weâre right in front of him, his head hits the back of the tree as he lets out a laugh.Â
âDonât say a single word,â I spit at him. Heâs not gonna be able to help himself, heâs just going to have to make fun ofâ
âGod, thatâs worse than your bikiniâs on Earth,â he manages to say between spurts of laughter. Neytiri looks cluelessly at us.Â
âI will kill you,â I say calmly.Â
Neytiriâs head cocks to the side as if that thought intrigued her. Jake stops laughing and puts his hands up in fake surrender. I roll my eyes and sit down beside him.Â
âWait for the clan to get their food, then you may have some,â Neytiri states before turning and working her way through the crowd.Â
Jake and I donât talk in her absence. Our relationship is used to silence. There was a time, when we both trained for the Marines, where we talked about deeper things. Then everything happened, and I had to leave, and Jake and I grew apart. I try not to think about that year. If I ignore it long enough, itâll be like it never even happened.Â
When I left the army, I joined Tom for avatar training and prepared to leave for Pandora. Seeing Jake in Tomâs avatar is like a knife being constantly twisted into my gut, digging deeper and deeper. I take a deep breath. I donât want to think about Tom or life back on Earth; I came to Pandora to get away from it all.Â
A large fire burns in the middle of the floor where Naâvi fill their plates. Laughter and conversation infuses the space, giving it a pleasant ambience. Growing up here, having a community like this, must be so nice. They donât even know how good they have it. If only we humans could understand. Neytiri appears in the crowd and works her way over to us, three plates balancing in her hand.Â
Jakeâs eyebrows raise. âThink she brought us some?â
My stomach growls. I didnât even know my avatar could do that. âI hope so.âÂ
Neytiri stops in front of us, an annoyed expression on her face. Iâm starting to think thatâs just how she always looks. âI brought your dinner. Best you stay further away from the clan.â
âRight,â Jake says as he reaches for the plate, âthank you.âÂ
I take my plate from her, âthanks.âÂ
Neytiri settles in across from us, her eyes lingering on her clan members. Sheâs probably wishing she could eat with them instead of us. I push the thought away and dig into my food. Itâs some kind of meat, probably sturmbeest, and a selection of sweet fruit. I take a bite and instantly melt, flavors bursting on my tongue. âThis is good.â
Neytiri ignores me and eats her own food. Jake nudges me with his shoulder, telling me he thinks itâs good too. I relax a little, suddenly grateful for him.Â
âNeytiri,â he begins, âwill we be hunting tomorrow?â
I chase a small piece of fruit around my plate, it sprays pink juice all over my fingers.Â
âYes,â Neytiri answers curtly.Â
âYouâve brought another?â A foreign voice says. I snap my head up to find a Naâvi man standing before us. His muscular chest is covered in a beaded piece that crawls up his neck. He glares venomously at me, the hatred in his gaze sends chills down my spine. I narrow my eyes on him. I know who he is, Iâve seen his pictures in my textbooks. Itâs Tsuâtey.Â
Neytiri hisses. âNot now, Tsuâtey.âÂ
âThey will never be one of us,â He says, his eyes boring into mine. He tilts his head slowly as he looks me over, he lingers on where my five fingers are stained with juice from the fruit. He chuckles and shakes his head incredulously. âEspecially not the new one.âÂ
Heat rushes to my cheeks. Iâm rarely embarrassed or offended by other people, but something about Tsuâtey sets me off. His words nestle under my skin. I open my mouth to snap at him when Jake places his hand on my forearm, as if he can feel the anger rising off of me.
âTsuâtey,â Jake mutters, âalways a pleasure.â
Tsuâteyâs lip curls with distaste as he looks at Jake. His entire presence is dangerous and lethal, he doesnât even need to speak. I rub the side of the loincloth. Neytiri rolls her eyes at him. âGo on.âÂ
âDonât waste your time,â Tsuâtey whispers to Neytiri, just loud enough so I can hear, âthat new one canât even sit still in her clothing.âÂ
Neytiri giggles, making my blood boil. Tsuâtey looks smug as he leans back. My vision darkens.Â
âI could sit still on your throat until you run out of breath,â I say with deadly calm.Â
Neytiri gasps as shock registers on Tsu'teyâs face, his mouth dropping open. Clearly he didnât think I spoke Naâvi. Pretentious asshole. Jake looks confused between us all. âWhatâsââ
âI could have your life for that,â Tsuâtey interrupts Jake, seethingly. His eyes look like theyâve been set on fire. Theyâre practically ablaze as he stares into me, his hands shaking furiously at his side.Â
âCalm down, Tsuâtey,â Neytiri says before eyeing me cautiously, the ghost of a smile playing on her lips. âPeople are noticingâŠâÂ
Tsuâtey inhales sharply. Multiple clan members stare at us, alarm and curiosity coating their features. Tsuâtey steps back slowly, his eyes assessing the sudden attention were receiving. He sets his strong jaw, the movement highlights the high arch of his cheekbone.Â
âIâll be seeing you, alien,â he mutters through clenched teeth. I fight the urge to flick him off as he turns away.Â
The clan members go back to their own conversations and my heart rate returns to normal. Jake blows out a breath of air. âWhat the hell was that?â
Tsuâteyâs blue backside glitters as he passes by the firelight. Multiple people greet him as he passes, he gives them each a tense and strained nod. He is a seriously stressed out guyâŠ
âYour sister,â Neytiri begins, âshe is interesting.âÂ
My eyebrows shoot up in surprise. Neytiriâs eyes are crinkled as she looks at me, like sheâs seeing something in me that she hadnât seen before.Â
Jake laughs. âThatâs one word for it.âÂ
I smack him playfully. Neytiri smiles at the gesture, now observing my brother and I. After a moment, she goes back to her food. Jake begins asking her about our training plans tomorrow.
Tsuâtey is now standing with a group of men on the other side of the fire, the light washes over his chiseled arms. They talk animatedly, smacking each otherâs back and laughing. What are they talking about? I cock my head to the side, watching how Tsuâtey fixes his chest piece and listens to his friends. I wonder if heâs an asshole to them too or if thatâs just reserved for special cases.Â
He nods to one of his friends, his beaded hair flicks across his ears before he turns. His eyes lock with mine from across the fire. I flinch at the sudden contact. His eyes darken, making my stomach drop. I quickly look away and pretend to be a part of Jake and Neytiriâs conversation. I can feel the weight of his stare, it pierces me, like heâs tearing me apart with just his eyes. My breathing quickens and I try to focus on the conversation in front of me but I canât process anything. Tsuâteyâs raging face keeps popping into my mind.Â
After a few moments, I finally get myself under control. Heâs just some asshole, I canât be this bothered by some guy being rude. I risk glancing back to where he stood across the fire. Heâs gone. I let out a relieved sigh, but something still curls in my stomach. That wonât be the last I see of Tsuâtey.
Hi beautiful, thanks for reading!
I haven't seen anyone writing about Tsu'tey so hopefully someone wants to read this??? Idk, I just really love the idea of enemies to lovers and Jake being like bro what
I want to make this into multiple parts and make it a slow burn with tension and everything. Would anyone want that?
I'll still be doing other submissions as well <3
Yall I promise a part 2 of 'Soft as Clouds' is coming, I have a life outside of writing. I don't get paid for this like I do with my actual job that drained me this week, so chill.
