we deserved a better ending for billy and stu in scream. stu should’ve ran over to billy dying and confess his love for him and then billy says i love you back and then they hold hands until they both bleed out man fuck this movie and fuck sidney
Woke up, still obsessed with Sinners.
Seriously, if you ever wanted to ask/wondered:
What and why our music means so much to the Black community, the roots from the past to the present
Why it's so deeply insulting to deal with the cultural appropriation and disrespect of Black music, given the depth of that meaning
How we use language, history, and context to determine when somebody ain't kinfolk despite pretending
How you might be allowed to forget that you're white, but we aren't allowed to forget that you're white, and that frames our interactions with you
How your allyship can fall oh so uselessly flat, no matter how well intentioned you may be, if you refuse to understand your position within the game
Why what scares you as fantastical is often a living nightmare for people of color, and how that history and social context can weave a horror story that hits close to home (I have a whole lesson on that!)
And more, go watch that movie 🙏🏾
im rewatching panic with my friend because of MIKE FAIST and she’s not getting the hype 😔 he’s so gorgeous and she just isn’t getting it 💔
‘reincarnated’ by kendrick lamar is actually crazy. i’ll never get over kendrick’s more introspective music, even though mr. morale took a while to grow on me, i see the appeal now 😭 listening to a man address his faults is lowk therapeutic
literally one of the best movies i’ve ever seen. walked out of that theater shaking (bc the movie was SO scary and good) and crying (bc i love music and i love black culture)
SINNERS (2025) dir. by Ryan Coogler
just watched “the truman show” and holy shit im so mad 😭 i’m sure this was the intent with the movie but the viewers only cared about what the show said they should care about. even though everyone watching the show knew that truman was literally living in a fucked up simulacrum of real life, they consumed the show with excitement and obsession, and only a small group of people thought negatively of it. then, once truman wants to escape, everyone is rooting for him? they didn’t care when truman didn’t care, but now they cheer once he escapes? where was that support before he knew about the situation he was in? they’d been watching the show for almost thirty years and didn’t care until now.
AND THEN, once the show was over and truman escaped, after the short period of celebration from viewers, they were just like “okay, let’s see what else is on tv” 😧 so they only care about what the television tells them to care about, and then once they’ve gotten all the stimulation they can out of one show, they move on to the next thing. it’s probably not that far off from real life but it really grinds my gears to see it in a movie i guess
with the state america is in right now, music is genuinely one of the most comforting things for me. thank you kendrick lamar for making music that makes me feel heard and not insane in this fucking country
kali uchis’ “your teeth in my neck” is my new obsession. the song isn’t lyrically phenomenal but the way she can make a song about wealth inequality so sultry is amazing 😭 her voice is so smooth and raspy and the way she pronounces her vowels is so satisfying 😻
