Hope, kindness, and compassion are skills. You can get better at them. Some people are naturally better or worse at them and sometimes something happens that makes them hard for you and that's okay. Just like coming back to work or a sport or other activity after an injury, you can slowly work up to it.
If you don't feel like you're a kind person, but you want to be, good news! You can be! It will just take some training just like any other skill.
A lot of people lack hope and you know what that's fair. But hope isn't this ephemeral thing the universe just gives you. It takes work to build a hopeful mindset. It's a skill.
If compassion is hard for you I'll tell you that it was once hard for me and now people tell me I'm the most compassionate person they know. Because I decided I wanted to feel compassion for everyone, even the people who hurt me, and started practicing.
They're skills and they are ESSENTIAL for living a happy life. If you want to be happy you have to be kind. If you want to feel joy without a cloud hanging over your head you need hope. And if you want to hurt less, you need compassion. I know you can do it. Good luck!
I love you ocean, I love you beach, I love you seashell, I love you fish, I love you moon, I love you sun, I love you stars, I love you mermaids, I love you ships, I love you sailors, I love you surfers, I love you weird deep sea creatures, I love you pearls, I love you fossils, I love you treasure chests, I love you houseboats, I love you anchors, I love you waves, I love you sea foam, I love you sea glass, I love you-
While cleaning out my room I found a paper that my therapist gave me some time ago to deal with obsessive and intrusive thoughts. Sorry the paper is a little crinkled and stained, but I figured I’d post it in hopes that it will help someone like it helped me.
Not Mine. Thought to Share.
stop playing it cool, just be passionate and intense and insane and whoever sticks around is meant for you
Reading a Terry Pratchett book is literally just: Here's a funny little joke Here's something that you can tell is a joke but don't get and will only figure out five years later Here's a surprisingly cool fantasy concept Here's a unique and well written simile Here's a lil guy Here's something that has aged depressingly well into the modern day Here's something that has aged remarkably queer into the modern day Here's a character that you can barely understand what he's saying Here is the most terrifying and deeply disturbing concept you have ever heard, casually mentioned Here is the dumbest fucking pun you've ever heard but in the best way Here is a quote so profound that it makes you view morality and the world in a different way Here is a plot twist that you can't tell if it's genius or stupid Congratulations! You've finished the book! It has fundamentally changed you as a person and you will never be the same!
