yes I made a quintet in iambic pentameter for this and yes it was worth it. break down below for anyone curious :)

To chase the light of the emerging dawn,

you can always be sure the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. in other words, the sun as a guiding star - for the people Rapunzel helped guide to a brighter path.

Be scorched as it was with Daedalus's son,

Daedalus's son being Icarus. we all know the story. the sun as a source of pain - for those Rapunzel failed to do right by.

Or bathed in gold, from which new life will spawn,

nothing would exist as it is without the sun. the sun as the bringer of life - for those Rapunzel saved in their most dire hour.

The sunkissed daughter's gilded hands spare none.

the impact Rapunzel has on the people she crosses paths with is undeniable. as for whether that impact is good or bad, well, who can say?

I think about Angie's actions in chap 3 and I think the school student council really represents something like wishing forever to live in a lie, when she destroys the flashlight it's a way for her to make everyone live in blissful ignorance, create a new reality in which who they were, or what's outside, or more importantly what's real and what is a lie don't matter, all it matters is to create a peaceful environment, even at the cost of never confronting the truth, because the truth only hurts that peace she was meticulously trying to create.

It's kind of a refusal of the themes of the games, because Angie and the student council refuse to find the truth but by destroying the flashlight also unconsciously refuse to live a lie, she aims to create a bubble and aims to instead live peacefully with the uncertainty, it's moreover choosing ignorance over both truth and deceit if that makes sense, but I think by doing that she is still forcing to choose deceit by forcing them not to care about the lives they lived before the killing game, and moreover accept the sometimes real and sometimes deceitful nature of her religion and teachings

(with deceitful I mean more about the way God in her view as a flexible identity she uses to better manipulate her targets rather than me thinking religion is false! It's more UHH how cults use religion)

April Fool's Mastermind 😈

Tsumugi Shirogane is, at her core, a shitty storyteller. She carries a deep passion but a weak constructive mind for her work, and concerts her writing flaws with bravado and grandiose features in an attempt to distract her chosen audience from her poor strategy. She fills her work with references and callbacks to the history and media that inspired her so, but can never truly create her own work, so she attempts replication and cheap copycat work instead in the hopes that that core connection she felt will carry over. It's full of meaning not because she succeeded, but because she tried. She's a fangirl writing a love letter to her problematic fav, and she's failing spectacularly not from lack of effort, but lack of skill. She's pathetic. She's a total loser, and she knows it, but if people will care about this one thing that she made, just this one thing, it will all have been worth it. And that's why she accepts her death so solemnly, why she doesn't fight back, because despite her failure, she did manage to teach her victims the one thing she could never accept for herself- that their lives mattered regardless of what they provided for others. And that, to me, is why Tsumugi is so endearing not just as a mastermind, but as a character.
