You, Yuuji, Megumi, and Nobara were all sent out to a mission as first years. An abandoned building was rumoured to have multiple cursed spirits in it, so you four were assigned to exorcise them.

With Yuuji being your best friend it didn’t take long for you guys to start goofing around, much to Megumi’s annoyance. You guys were playing with the debris and remains of the abandoned building and taking things stupidly lightly for a dangerous mission.

You’d pull jokes in serious situations, always end up annoying either Fushiguro or Kugisaki (mostly Fushiguro), had an endless amount of inside jokes, and probably shared only half a brain cell together. The most frustrating thing was how you two were oblivious to the mutual feelings and pining towards each other.

And today was no different.

“Guys, take this seriously, please?” Megumi groaned.

“Chill out, Fushiguro!” Yuuji laughed, jokingly holding out his fists to you.

“Yeah! You’re way too serious,” You agreed, gripping onto your sword playing along with Yuuji’s fight.

Megumi opened his mouth–before he and Nobara felt the ground disappear.

“Behind yo–,” Megumi wanted to scream, but the warning was cut short.

Yuuji turned behind before you, and the both of you could suddenly feel the tension that filled the moonlit room, the sound of the curse menacing as it blocked the outside world.

The curse was a monstrous mess–writhing limbs and gouged out eyes, skin coloured with an unpleasant color of green and orange as it stared at you two.

Yuuji struck first, throwing a punch that sent the curse crashing to the wall. You gripped onto your sword even tighter, heart pounding. Before you could turn around, Yuuji flew to the opposite wall, and the air thickened.

“It has one of Sukuna’s fingers!” He yelled, his back hitting the wall harshly.

“Itadori!” You surged through, sliding your sword through the curse and cutting one of the arms off.

“I’m fine!” Yuuji coughed, tried his best to prop himself up, before the curse lunged towards him and choked him, holding him down.

You gasped, running to the curse. Yuuji slowly lost his breath as he watched the curse laugh at him menacingly.

“Why’d you protect the girl, huh? She must be important to you," the curse laughed menacingly.

Your blood ran cold.

“It can talk?!” You yelled, slicing through the arm that was choking him.

Yuuji fell to his knees, blood dripping down the sides of his mouth. 

“What if I touched her, hm?” The curse chuckled.

Yuuji’s eyes widened, and he used up all the strength in his arms to force the curse away, his voice raw and full of fury. “Don’t you dare!”

Yuuji stepped up quickly, catching his breath. He swiftly ran as he poured all his cursed energy into his fists. 

You locked eyes with him for a brief second, and that was all you needed.

“L/N!” Yuuji yelled.

“I know!” You yelled back.

In one synchronized motion, you guys struck the curse and poured every amount of cursed energy you could into your final blows.

It froze, and Yuuji’s fist faltered while your sword was stuck in the curse.

“Did… did we do it?” Yuuji asked, slightly panting.

The curse stilled. Then–

“I think so–,” Your breath caught in your throat, and you felt your chest rip out. Your sword slipped from your fingers.

“L/N!” He screamed—the voice tore from his throat as rage filled him when he saw the curse laughing at him.

The curse wanted to hurt Yuuji, but in a way that would scar him forever—and it was by hurting you.

“No!” He yelled, desperately as he wanted to punch the curse, too late as it quickly disappeared and revealed one of Sukuna’s fingers that Yuuji couldn’t care less for. He quickly caught you before you fell to the ground, your eyes hazy.

“L/N! L/N!” He caught you and shook you gently, removing his shirt to wrap it around your chest and stop the bleeding.

“I-Itadori…” you asked weakly, before coughing up blood. 

“L/N! I’ll call Ieiri-san—stay with me!” He clumsily got his phone out with one hand, tears starting to roll down his cheeks. He kept one hand on you, feeling the warmth fade.

“I-Itadori…” you called again. Tasting the metal on your tongue and feeling the pain in your chest, you knew that your time had come.

It was hard to accept, but you were bleeding out to your death, so painfully–but what hurt more was the way Yuuji was trembling.

“No, it’ll be okay! Stay awake!” he continued yelling, trying his best to stop the bleeding.

“Yuuji,” you tried to say firmly, using his first name.

Yuuji’s eyes widened as he faltered slightly, looking at your face and placing you in his lap.

“Y-yes, Y/N?” He asked, his voice shaking and cracking.

Using the last of your energy to wipe the tears on his face, it was replaced with a smudge of your blood before you spoke weakly.

“It’s okay,” you tried your best to smile. “You got this.”

He gasped, he didn’t want to got this—he wanted you!

“No! Y/N, I’m not doing this without you! I can’t just—,”

“Yuuji,” you called again.

He stayed silent, holding your hand.

“Y-yes…?”

“I’ve had fun…” you started. “With you, Fushiguro, Kugisaki, and everyone else…” 

Yuuji didn’t like where this was going—he held onto your hand as if letting go would kill you, or rather, kill him.

“Yuuji… thank you for showing me life,” you continued.

“Let me continue showing you life, Y/N, please,” he begged and begged with a hoarse voice. Tears were starting to blur his vision but he didn’t dare to close his eyes. Not while you were slowly disappearing.

“You’ve… shown me enough life… and I couldn’t be more grateful,” you caressed his cheek, the blood on it fresh as it swirled under your thumb. “I…I love you, Yuuji.”

He gasped. You loved him? And he only knew now? No—no, this couldn’t be happening. But as he saw your eyes slowly lose life, the blood that bled through the clothes, he knew you were about to bite the dust.

“I—I love you too, Y/N…” he whispered shakily.

You laughed, painfully. “I can die happily now…” you whispered, before your arm went limp and fell onto his lap.

“Y/N?” 

Silence.

He gasped. “No. No, no, no, no—Y/N! Y/N!” He called, his eyes introducing a new wave of tears.

“Y/N! Y/N!” He begged, shaking your shoulders as if to shake some life back into you as his tears mixed with the blood on your lifeless chest.

“Y/N!” He screamed, his voice tore from his throat, raw and hoarse.

“No!” He punched the ground. “No!” He repeated, again and again that the screams almost sounded inhumane as he felt his heart’s despair.

“Itadori!” He heard a familiar boy’s voice, but didn’t dare to look back as he held your corpse closely.

“Y/N… she’s…” he could barely get above a whisper, hugging your corpse to his chest.

His two friends behind him were stunned by the sight of you—half lidded eyes, slightly opened mouth, and a bleeding chest.

Yuuji could hear quiet sniffles from behind him as he closed his eyes, sobbing loudly. He felt a hand rub his shoulder, but his mind was on you.

He cried into your corpse's open chest, his face stained with your blood. He ignored the hand that rubbed his shoulder–everything outside you being unimportant. 

All that mattered was you. 

You, limp in his arms.

You, who had just confessed.

You, who were gone.

The despair that tore through him was unlike anything he had ever felt. And as he screamed your name into the dark, blood-soaked night, Yuuji knew—

A part of him had died with you.
