I LOVE A MAN IN GLASSES - AS A GLASSES WEAR
So I’m rewatching school spirits and I’m up to season 2 episode 7 and I didn’t realise the first time when I watched the episode (mostly because I was still reeling from seeing Wally’s butt while I almost chocked on my lunch 😅) how beautiful the scene was between Maddie and Wally. Like the song choices and the setting ugh so beautiful and Wally wanting Maddie to stay 😭😭😭 that time I cried.
I know he’s a fictional character but Wally has really set the bar high when it comes to boyfriend expectations.

Summary:
After you witness Wally’s death you are confused, overwhelmed, and lost. And then tragedy strikes again. Then everything in your life as well as Wally’s changes and you met some new faces…
Part 3:
As you leave the field everything around you is a blur still in shock. Your mind is going a million miles a minute trying to come to terms of what just happened. You just want to go home and rot away listening to yours and Wally’s favourite song on your Walkman.
“Sweetie, could you go start the car? I need to head to the bathroom before we go home.” Mom says ever so softly knowing how fragile you are. Without saying anything you nod and grab mom’s keys, put on your Walkman and walk to the car park. You begin walking to the car music blaring through your headphones as you look down to adjust your Walkman in your pocket. Unbeknownst to you a car is speeding in the car park. A senior showing of his new car speeds in the parking lot and then BANG instantly collecting you. You get fling over the car and land directly on your head.
You slowly open your eyes and things are all a blur. All you see is the dark night sky and red and blue lights. You slowly get up; you see a big crowd in the parking lot all huddled in the middle and looking down at the ground almost as if they were looking for something.
“Y/N? Y/N” you hear your name being called in the distance. For a moment you thought it was Wally. You get up and walk over to the crowd of people and you try to make your way through. You squeeze past people, but they pretend you’re not even there. You make your way to the centre and see your mom screaming and crying and she’s holding something. You look closer and realise it you. Confusion instantly washes over you. How are you on the floor there when you were standing right here. “Mom, Mom I’m right here can’t you see me?” you say frantically. All the sudden the voice you heard before is right behind you. It was Wally. “Wally, what the fuck I just saw you die, how are you here?” “I don’t know. All I know is that I was playing the game then I woke up and I saw you and everyone over me in a circle. Then I saw 3 other people that I have never seen before talk to me and said I was dead.” Wally said still confused and worried. “Wait if your dead and my body’s over there and I’m here does that make me- “
“A ghost like me. Yeah.” Wally said as he cut you off. The world around you becomes a haze as you revel with the news that you are dead. That you now are a ghost and so is Wally and a bunch of other ghosts? “Huh what? I was just there listening to our song how could I be dead?” Another man with two girls walk to you and he extends his arms. “I know you two must have a lot of questions, come with us and we will talk about it.” The man in the suit that looked something your Uncle Henry would wear. “I know you guys must be scared; I was too when I first found out I died. Trust me it gets better.” The girl with red hair said as the other girl next to her with the paper boy hat didn’t say a word as she directs you and Wally back into the school.
You and Wally and the others walk into school as the man introduces himself. “Hello, Mr Martin. I like to formally welcome you both to your new life or should I say afterlife” Both stunned to what Mr Martin just said. “Hi, I’m Janet and this is Rhonda.” The girl with the red hair says as she holds her hand out to shake which both you and Wally do. “I suppose we don’t need to give you a tour since you went to this school” Mr Martin laughs clearly trying to break the silence. Neither you nor Wally laugh.
“Um yeah hi, nice to meet you all but what are we doing here? If we are dead, aren’t we I, don’t I know supposed to be you know in heaven?” You snap back at Mr Martin as Wally just stands there quietly. “That’s the thing with this school we have no idea why we are trapped here, we just are. If you try to leave the school grounds you get, put back to where you died.” Mr Martin explained ignoring your snappiness. “No, that ridiculous what do you mean we are stuck here?” Wally expressed as he pushes his hair back with one hand and the other on his hip. “It means quarterback if you try to leave school some force, we don’t know about pushes you back to the place you died” Rhonda snarled already bored of the conversation. She walks off down the hall towards the teachers’ lounge. “Ignore her, she gets a bit cranky when she has to explain what has happened to us to new people.” Janet says as she turns to you. “Wait others? There’s more ghosts?” you express. “Yeah, I know it’s a lot, but you will be ok.” Janet says as she starts to walk down the all the same direction Rhonda went.
You and Wally are confused as you look at each other in shock. This is really happening, you and he are dead, there are other ghosts that haunt your school, and you can’t leave the school grounds because some force will send you back to the spot you died. “Well, I’ll let you get settled, its already late and I have to prepare for our group session tomorrow” Mr Martin says and walks away before either of you could respond.
“This is bullshit, they can’t tell us what to do. I’m leaving this place. Are you with me?” Wally raises is voice with furry. “Wally, I think they were telling the truth that we can’t leave.” You respond calmly not wanting to start a fight between you too. “We need to figure that out ourselves. I don’t trust them, not just yet. Please Y/N, come with me.” He looks at you eager for you to respond. You not knowing what to do you agree with him. He’s right who’s to say they are telling the truth about all of this. You had to make sure of it yourselves. “Ok Wally, I’m with you. But maybe you should change into something else besides your football uniform” “I think I have some sweats and my varsity jacket in the boy’s locker room.” Wally says and you and he start walking in the direction of the boys’ lockers. You wait outside and wait for him to change. Once he’s finished you both decide to head to the main entrance of the school and try to leave whatever nightmare you both woke up in., he takes your hand as you reach the end of the school property. You both at the same time walk across and… bam you are by yourself starting up at the sky in the school parking lot. Great just great you thought they were telling the truth that means Wally is on the football field you get up and run towards the field and you see Wally was already running towards you. “Well, I guess they were right, we can’t leave. This is so fucked” Wally expressed as you finally met. “It’s ok Wally, I’m scared too but I think we have to learn to trust those guys. By the way they are dressed they look like they have been here for a while.” You respond back and worry washes over you still in shock and in disbelief that this is happening. “Ok your right. Let’s go back inside and find somewhere to rest because I sure as hell I’ve got a lot of questions for them.” Wally says in a calmer tone then before.
You both head back inside and then Wally remembers something. “Hey Y/N, you said before the homecoming game you wanted to tell me something, what was it?” “Oh, umm it doesn’t matter I was just going to ask if you wanted to go to the diner after the game for some ice-cream before we went back to your place.” You respond back. That was the quickest you’ve ever come up with a lie before because now is not the right time to tell him your feelings when you both are so vulnerable right now. He nods not saying anything as you continue to walk around the school trying to find somewhere to rest… wait do we even need to rest if we are dead? You keep that thought to yourself as you and wally head to the library remembering there’s couches there.
Part 2 Part 4
The raised eyebrow is so cunty.
Maddie Nears
Maddie never really died. At least not as a teenager. One night she went down to the boiler room and woke up a little later as a ghost. For weeks she tried to find out who had killed her, only to realize that she wasn't dead at all. When someone has to choose between life and death, few people feel as torn as Maddie.
She missed her friends. Simon and Nicole were actually more, the three of them were one heart and one soul. She wasn't just interested in watching black and white horror movies with them or passing the time in the breaks between lessons. She had a firm plan for the future, she wanted to get out of Split River, away from here, away from all the shit in small-town America.
But she also wanted a happy family and knew she might never get that. She loved her mom, she really did. But watching your mom fail every time while the kid has to play the adult is hard. That was perhaps the only good thing about it: that her mom was trying to get sober.
Well, not the only good thing: the first person to contact her when she was a ghost was Charley. She almost regrets being so harsh to him at first, but there was never any bad blood between them for long. If Charley had been in her year, they would have been friends, Maddie is sure of it. He helped her, she wanted to do something good for him. Hence the letter. And because she can't stand it when her friends suffer. Sometimes she wonders if she has some kind of savior syndrome, but fuck it, she thinks to herself. If it helps my friends...
Rhonda's and her relationship is harder to assess. They both regularly exchange literature. Maddie shows her the joys of the gothic genre, Rhonda gets her excited about the beat poets. When it comes to movies, the two have completely different tastes and spend hours and hours discussing them without reaching an agreement. Movie nights have never been quiet since.
She is the first to gain Mina's trust. Sometimes, when everything gets too much for her, she goes into the auditorium and watches Mina as she cat-like lays cables on the spotlight struts. The two don't talk much, but the silence makes them comfortable. Dawn only leaves a dull feeling after she crosses over. It's strange not to see her sitting in her usual spot. But Maddie can't help but feel a warmth, too. Warmth she hasn't felt from the sun since she became a ghost.
Since she became a ghost, she sometimes has unbearable headaches that make her see black. Wally is the first to notice. When they are sitting in the library and her headache starts, he waits 5 minutes, then takes the book out of her hand, sits next to her and starts massaging her head. She regrets that she never told him how grateful she was. When she was out with Wally, she laughed for the first time since she was stuck as a ghost in Split River High School. She doesn't even notice her feelings for Wally at first because there's so much going on. Looking back, she knows it was slow to start, but by the time she realized it, she was so deep into it that it seemed sudden.
So who could blame her for being attached to the afterlife?

Part 19:
Summary:
You confront your scar and realise that yours and Wally’s scars are connected.
A/N for the next few chapters there will be season 2 spoilers. While I do take some of the plot points from the show, I have changed a few things so it’s not a complete copy of the show.
You look down at your Walkman, it worked you’re in your scar or whatever we are calling this place but as you look around you are not in the parking lot. You are on the football field. You see the football team playing on the field, you can see the crowd in the bleachers and in seating around the field, the same as it was in 1983. Then you see Wally as he gets tackled, and you can hear his neck snap. The same scream leaves your body as last time. And you run to the field and see Wally his eyes wide open not moving. Suddenly, you were in the parking lot. You see yourself, Walkman in hand, tears streaming down your face complete unaware the car speeding towards you. Then BANG you see yourself get hit by the car and go over the car and you see yourself lay on the ground.
That’s when you hear Wally -well his spirit - as he’s calling for you. He saw it all. The crash, the impact and your mom sobbing as she holds you. You almost forget for moment that you went in there for a reason. To find Mr Martin. You turn you attention away and look around. Trying to find him and nothing. Wait a minute, you through to yourself, how do you get out of here. Suddenly you can hear Wally’s voice. “Darling, I don’t know if you can hear me but I’m right here. I didn’t go anywhere. Charley went for help, but please Darling come back to me. To us.”
You walk in the direction you entered, Walkman in hand, and then you fall to your knees. Sobbing as you relived not only yours but Wally’s death all over again. Wally rushes over to you on the floor and hugs you, relived you made it out. “Y/N, are you ok? I was worried sick. I- I” he mutters as tears fill his eyes. “I didn’t find him. He’s not in there.” You mumble into Wally’s chest. Wally lets go of the hug and puts his finger under your chin, looking in his eyes “I don’t care about that, I can about you and why you wanted to go in there?” he asked. “We all need answers from him and if my theory is right, he’s in one of these things.” You say. “What was it like in there?” he asked with concern in he voice. “Hell. I saw your death first then mine. I think because we died on the same day and how close we are, they are connected. I don’t know if the others are connected and that’s how Mr Martin can go in hiding for so long but ours are defiantly connected.” You whimper out as you cry remembering what you saw. “Fuck, you had to relive it all over again?” he asks as he wipes tears from your cheeks. “Yeah, I felt the same when I saw you die, that pain and fear all over again. And I saw your spirit when I witnessed my death and I saw the hurt on your face, everything.” You reply. Before Wally can respond, Charley appears with the others in tow, you and Wally get up of the ground.
“Was he in there?” Tommy asks. “No. He could have been anywhere. Wally and mine are connected.” You say. “Wait how are they connected?” Maddie asks. “I think because we died on the same day and we are so close and we went through the same trauma, they somehow connected. So, if Wally was to enter his scar, he would witness his death and then mine again.” You reply.
“This is so fucked. Mr Martin could be in any of our scars and even the loopers scars, how the fuck are we meant to find him?” Rhonda says angrily. “Hey, its ok we will figure out something. Its late how about we get some rest and re-group tomorrow?” you say as you try to calm her down. She nods as she gives you hug. You all head back into school and all go your separate ways. You needed some time to reel over what you just experienced. You head to the theatre to go on that couch you found in the storage room, then you remembered what happened last time when you went down there so you went to find Wally. He was talking to Tommy about something you can’t quite make out. “Hey, sorry to interrupt, I just wanted to tell you that I’ll be in the theatre storage room.” And before you can leave Wally says, “I’m coming with you Darling.” “But I-“ “you may think you need some alone time but not happening I’m coming with you.” He interrupts you as he takes your arm into his and walks down the hall to the theatre.
He lifts the hatch as you climb down the stairs and find the light. “Really, Walls I’m ok, go be with Maddie” you say trying to convince him to leave but also wanting him to stay. “Maddie can wait, my best friend just experienced her death for the first time and mine for a second time, there isn’t a chance in hell that I won’t be with you.” He says. “Ok, ok you can stay but I’m just warning you there’s only one couch in here and I plan on sleeping here.” You state to him. “Well, looks like we are sharing.” He said as he made his way to the couch with pillows you used last time. Joining him on the couch, silence fills the room until he asks. “If I go in my scar thing, will you wait for me?” without any hesitation you say “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, but you know you don’t need to. We can find him some other way without you reliving it.”
“Like you said, we all need answers from him and if he’s in hiding and I’m the only one that can go in there, I have to at least try.” He expressed. “It’s not going to be easy. What I saw, what you will see will be very traumatic. You feel it all over again. Everything Walls, if it wasn’t for your voice that directed me out of there, I don’t know what I would have done.” You say. “I can do it, I have to. I didn’t experience my death; I just know what you told me. I have to see it for myself.” He says as tears well in his eyes. “I will be there for you always Walls, even if I have to find my way in and relive it all again just to be with you, I would in a heartbeat.” You utter as you take his hand. You can feel your whole body feel hot as you hold his hand, wondering if he can feel it too. “Thanks Darling. Are you sure you want to sleep down here? Its creepy!” he says changing the subject. You drop his hand and put your in your lap. “It’s not that bad, I’ve experienced much worse.” You giggle. You both talk about anything to past time until you feel your eyelids getting heavy as you drift off to sleep.

Hurt You, Heal You
You sit at the end of the deck, feet kicking the water, the world around you quiet and still, though you can hear your friends laughing up at the firepit. Up the path and through the trees, Claire's lakehouse lit up at the top of the hill.
It's almost sundown and you needed a moment to yourself. Spent the whole weekend surrounded by the people you cared about most in the world. Who'd essentially kidnapped you at someone's behest because you'd isolated yourself for days after the doubt crept back in.
Two months and things are better—they are—but...in the lonely in-betweens, you forget the rage and indignance. The lies and the deceit and the pleas for forgiveness that kindled that beautiful, empowering anger that got you through most of the aftermath.
Brandon Bowers, your boyfriend of a year, cheated on you with Kirsten Bloom. One of Claire's former entourage, now exiled to cling to the last shreds of her popularity on Brandon's arm.
You were devastated. Not that you'd pictured white picket fences and a wedding dress, but you'd invested time, energy, love. Really made an effort and enjoyed being in a relationship. Found yourself discovering new parts of who you were and reveling in them.
Now, you wonder if you'll ever find that again.
With a sigh, you lay back on your drying towel, eyes watching the stars appear above. It's so clear, unlike your head which is steadily descending into chaos as you imagine Brandon and Kirsten, cuddled up somewhere, all in love and happy.
You hear footsteps on the wood, the cadence telling you exactly who it is without you having to look.
Wally Clark plops down beside you and lays back, joining you in repose. His body so close to yours that you can feel the heat emanating from it. He turns his head and you turn yours, eyes meeting. He gives you a big smile, eyes bright and soulful.
"You doing okay?" He asks.
You return his smile with one of your own, meaning it when you say, "Better."
Before the incident, Wally was a casual friend. Someone who hung out with your group when everyone got together. But after the incident, you aren't sure what changed, but there he was. Every time you were down, he picked you up in every way he could think of.
He rallied where your friends were reluctant to. They knew you liked to handle things alone and respected that. Wally, however, didn't believe that for a second, and maybe he was right, since you don't think you would've made it out the other side without him.
It wasn't gradual. Wally was all in all at once. He showed up at your door when you texted Maddie that you weren't going to make it for Movie Night. Standing at the door with a calculating look on his face as he gave you a once-over.
"Get changed." He said.
And that was it. First was the rage room, and, God, was it cathartic. Then came the escape room (a few of the others joined in). After that, karaoke because, belting it out is good for you, cutie, trust me. Friend date after friend date, Wally anticipating exactly what you needed when you needed it before you even processed what was happening.
The night at the old theater downtown was by far your favorite. The band was terrible. Screechy and out of tune. Lyrics that were supposed to be profound sounded like inexperience and naiveté. Still, you and Wally moshed your bodies aching, laughing the whole time until you nearly peed yourself.
He's a good friend.
Your heart flutters, cheeks pink as you recall the few instances he's looked at you in a way you can't quite decipher, but the feeling those looks stirred inside you was more than platonic.
You didn't mention it then, and you won't mention it now. Too afraid for too many reasons. You don't want to ruin a good thing, you don't want to feel how Brandon made you feel again. Fear and confusion and self-deprecation.
Wally's hand finds yours between your bodies, and he squeezes. Although his face is toward the sky, you know he's paying attention.
"You sure you're okay?"
You take a moment to answer, letting the heat and weight of his hand on yours sink into your skin.
"Yeah." You say, trying to sound nonchalant. Keep it brief so you don't reveal where your mind wandered.
He remains silent for a while. Just lays there with you as the sun sets. And then he's in motion, rolling onto his side, eyes glittering as he grins down at you. Uh-oh. You know that look. That playful gleam.
The next thing you know, he's on his feet, his hands clasped around your wrists to haul you up then haul you over his shoulder. Spins on his heal, you shriek, and he jumps into the water, taking you unceremoniously with him.
When you break the surface, you're spluttering, pulling your hair back out of your face, spitting water and glaring at him as soon as he comes up with that stupid, crooked grin that makes your blood tingle.
"What the hell!?" You demand, splashing him in the face, "I just got dry!"
Wally cackles, splashing you right back, "You were getting in your head again, angelface, I had to!"
Oh, no, he absolutely did. not. have to.
You splash him again. He launches toward you as fast as the water will let him and then pseudo-tackles you back, submerges you both gleefully before releasing you so you can suck in a harsh breath.
"You're the worst!" You say, but even you can hear the laughter in your voice. Giddy. Happy. Wally's bright mood is contagious.
As he treads water, you see that look fall over his face. The soft one that makes your brain fuzzy and your stomach twist. He ruins the moment by spitting a fountain of water at you and backstroking out of your reach when you try to lunge in retaliation.
He's never said I told you so, despite being the only person you know who could. He warned you about Brandon, how Wally didn't like the guy, thought he was bad news. No one else picked up on it, so you ignored him and Wally never brought it up again.
You've been waiting for Wally to boast since he started spending his free time putting a smile on your face. Now, you realize he isn't the type. He'll never say those words, never make you feel like an idiot for trusting someone who Wally read like 3rd Grade English while you chose to be illiterate.
You've never appreciated anything more.
Wally sloshes the water around, tipping onto his back to float while he gazes at the sky. You join him, drifting close by in the water, allowing the moment to settle between you and him.
"How're you feeling now?" He asks eventually, voice as soft as the ripples. "And be honest. I know when you're lying."
He really does. It's kind of scary how, in such a short time, Wally knows you better than Nicole or Maddie or Simon.
This time, you really think about it. Take stock, measure and analyze and process. Finally, "I feel really good." The water slips as you turn your head to look at him, "Thanks to you."
It's so quiet, you aren't sure he hears you, but he does. You can tell by his smile. The gentle, pleased-with-himself one he wears when you've said he's done a good job.
Unfortunately, the moment ends with a shriek, this time in horror, not delight, because, ah, holy fuck, ew, oh God, you felt something bump against your leg in the water.
You're a flurry of motion and noise before you feel Wally's hands on your body, hear his laughter in your ear, loud and carefree.
"It was seaweed," He snorts, lifting up the clump that drifted into you for you to see.
Embarrassed, "I knew that."
"Sure you did," He tosses it further into the water.
Your lips twist in displeasure. Either way, "I'm gonna get out now."
"Just in case the Loch Ness Monster tries to eat you?" Wally grins.
"And here I was starting to like you," You glare. It lacks heat, a smile already curling the corners of your mouth at his teasing. "Now you're being mean."
Wally doesn't go still, can't unless he wants to sink below the surface, but he's so close you can sense how he tenses.
"Yeah?" He says in a breath. His leg brushes yours under the water when he wades closer. "You're starting to like me?"
There's something in the question—in his tone—that ignites a spark of heat in your belly. And now he's as close as he can get without absorbing you, your legs forced to spread to make room for his impossibly long ones. Only a narrow fraction between your chest and his. His face right there, lips still holding that dumb, gorgeous smile.
He says it like a secret, nearly lost under the chirp of crickets and distant laughter from the lakehouse.
"I'm starting to like you, too." Wally confesses and lets it sit in the air between you, waiting with baited breath for you to respond.
Your brain halts, eyes widening slightly. This isn't his usual playful teasing. The unsubtle flirting he lays on thick to make it a joke. This is real. Sincere. Vulnerable.
"Wally..." You begin, have no idea where to go from there so you trail off and leave it at that.
He doesn't seem to mind, can probably read it all over your face, as dark as the world is now. You feel one of his arms hook around your waist and draw you into his body, his lap.
Wally's eyes dip to your lips, then return to hold your gaze. He doesn't speak, just holds you, stares at you as if taking in a work of art. You swallow, shivering at the intensity in his eyes. The air thickens around you and him, syrupy and warm, and, wow, you never felt this with Brandon. This innocent, sweet desire for something to happen.
"I—" Wally stops, starts again, clearly nervous yet determined to tell you, "I do like you...a lot."
As if you couldn't figure that out from the way he holds you now. Actually, you probably wouldn't have. Would've chalked it up to Wally being casually affectionate and touchy like he is with everyone.
No, this is different, and you know it.
A single, short moment of silence as you try to find your words, only for you to blurt, "Me too."
Jesus, the smile he gives you rivals the sun.
You find yourself melting into him as you and he bob in the water, shallow enough that you can feel him steady his feet on the bottom of the lake as he keeps you in his lap. Buoyant. Light as a feather, yet feeling the weight of everything pushing you into him.
He doesn't waste a second. Takes it slow, sure, but makes sure you know exactly what he means by likes you. One of his hands grips your hip to keep you steady, the other trails gentle fingers down the slope of your jaw.
Wally leans in by degrees, giving you a chance to change your mind, no doubt. You have no intention of doing that.
And then, barely a touch, his lips brush yours. You gasp at the sensation, lips already tingling, and it prompts him to release a sigh. He lets out, lingers, then moves back in with more purpose.
A flick of his tongue, "Baby," and he kisses you harder, his grip on your hip sliding down to your thigh, encouraging you to wrap your legs around his waist.
Nothing else exists. Not the lake, not your friends. Not the memory of Brandon and Kirsten tangled together in Brandon's bed. Nothing apart from Wally and you and this kiss.
When it breaks, you're breathing heavy, somehow pressed even closer to him. Wally openly admires you, his hand on your neck so damn worshipful, his thumb stroking your cheek before pressing into the corner of your mouth.
"I wanna do that again," You murmur without thinking.
He chuckles, raspy and rich, "Me too."
So he does. And again. And again, until someone—Nicole—calls from the top of the path that burgers are ready! and you and he have to get out of the water to rejoin the gathering.
You sit beside him, curled up in your Adirondack chair, feet on his lap. No one mentions the new exchange of intimacy between you and him, and you realize belatedly, scanning your friends' expressions over the course of the night, that they knew.
Wally doesn't deny it when you stage whisper the question. Instead, he takes advantage of the fact that you figured it out to manhandle you from your chair into his lap, where he keeps you for the rest of the night.
And, just like every time before, you didn't realize what you needed until Wally gave it to you. Somewhere safe. Somewhere secure.
Now, you don't have to wonder if you'll ever find the type of love you wanted again, because it found you.

Part 15:
A/N I’m so happy you are still here reading my story; it means so much to me. This part and every part moving forward is a time jump, 39 years after the events of new years and after your kiss. I wanted to give Wally and Y/N a background story of them being new ghosts and what their friendship was like before their deaths, which is kind of the sub plot of my story. Now the year is 2023 in line with season 1 and then eventually season 2 of the show and I want to write a little bit of what happened before Maddie appears. And your character will learn that Wally really likes her, and you become jealous.
Summary: Its 39 years later and you reminisce over everything that has happened over the years. You and Wally are closer than ever, and you finally decide to tell him that you have loved him for 41 years, that is until a new ghost comes along and changes things between you.
39 years later…
You, Wally, Rhonda, and Tommy head to the gym to start your group therapy session for the day. Charley, who died in 1993 after suffering anaphylaxis, quickly became a part of your friend group. He was off trying to talk to the new girl who had been roaming the halls for three days confused. He was being a sort of guide for her like You and Wally were for him when he died. Since your death there had been 8 other deaths at school, all of them except for Charley were loopers. Also, Janet somehow found a way to cross over a year ago. You and her became quick friends and was sadden when Mr Martin she had crossed over. You were hurt that she crossed over without saying anything like all those years of sharing secrets and other details about yourself had meant nothing.
On the other hand, your friendship with Wally has become stronger than ever. You never talked about that night in the storage room again, but your love for him that hasn’t changed, it somehow became stronger. You finish setting out all the chairs as Mr Marin enters the gym, sitting his stuff down beside him. Just as he was about to start the gym doors open. You see Charley and the new girl, walk between the basketball team, even though they can’t hurt you or you can’t hurt them, you walk around them regardless. He takes a seat next to Rhonda and encourages the girl to take a seat. Looking at her closely, you could tell she was traumatized, whatever happened to her must have been bad. Despite the look of terror on her face you can’t help but notice how beautiful she looked. She had short blonde hair that framed her face, blue eyes. She was wearing a flannelette shirt over a tank top with black jeans and boots.
“Welcome everyone. I’m Mr Martin, since we have a new student with us, how about we go around the circle and introduce ourselves?” he asked to the group looking at Rhonda to his left. “Rhonda” she says as she takes the lollipop out of her mouth before putting it back in. “Well, you already know me but I’m Charley.” He said looking at her. “Hey, I’m Tommy.” Tommy said in her direction giving her a wave. “I’m Y/N nice to meet you.” You said giving her a friendly nod. “Hey, I’m Wally.” Wally said. “Now you know everyone here why you don’t introduce yourself?” Mr Martin asked looking at her. “I’m good” she says as she puts her elbows on her knees and looks to the floor. She looks over to Charley and he gives her a nod and smile saying you got this. She sighs again and says, “I’m Maddie and I don’t know why I’m here.” Before anyone can say anything, Rhonda says as she sticks her lollipop to the side of her mouth. “So, how did you die?” “Geez, Rhonda, way to be straight forward with it” you say as you look over to her and she shrugs her shoulders. “I don’t know. They haven’t found my body.” She replied. “Oh, shit you were murdered” Wally said as he leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. You give him a nudge with your elbow and whisper “Walls, she’s clearly upset just take it easy.” “Ok that maybe true but you are here now and coming here was a big step. Getting support even in death is hard.” Mr Martin says giving her a nod.
Suddenly group was over, and you were helping pack things away. Wally leaves with Tommy to go for a run. Charley went to find Maddie as she walked out of the gym in a rush after the group was over leaving You, Rhonda, and Mr Martin to pack up the chairs. As you finish and leave with Rhonda you ask, “Do you think Maddie will be ok? I haven’t seen anyone more traumatized.” “She’ll be fine chickee. With Charley being her little ghost guide he won’t let her get away from all this that easy.” She says as you exit the gym. “I’m heading to the library to chill, wanna come with?” she asks. You were about to answer when you see her, your niece. “No, I think I will look out for Lily for a bit.” You said looking at her. Rhonda nods her head understanding even though your niece can’t see you, you like to be around for her. Your sister Mary eventually came to Split River High after you were supposed to graduate. You watched her all through her time there even saw her fall in love with her now husband Matthew in her senior year. And now you watch Lily, the same way you did your sister.
After a while of watching your sister around the school, you learned that she will never see you or know you are there but, in some way, it was a comfort for you seeing and hearing her. Your parents eventually moved away from Split River after Mary graduated which you found out through Wally’s mom at the homecoming games. Wally’s parents still attended every single homecoming game after his death, but your parents couldn’t bear the thought. They would only come to the school briefly during Mary’s parent teacher conferences.
You watch as Lily opens her locker and something you’d never noticed before, taped in her locker was her friends. You recognised Simon and Nicole before but until now you just noticed that Maddie was there too. You wondered how you never noticed before. Lily knows Maddie. You couldn’t believe it. You go to find her and tell her that Lily is your niece that you never met. Eager to know more about her. You head to the library and see Wally, Tommy, Charley, Rhonda, and Maddie sitting on the couches. “Hey Darling I was just about to look for you, but Rhonda said you were with Lily.” Wally said as you approach them all on the couches. Before you can say anything, Maddie says. “Wait how do you know Lily?” “She’s, my niece. I died before I could even meet her.” You respond. “Wait how long have you been here?” she asks as you sit on the couch beside her. “Wally and I have been here for 40 years.” You say. “Holy shit 40 years? That’s-“ “I’ve been here for 60 years” Rhonda chimes in. “Wait you have all been here for that long? Can’t you just leave?” she asks. “Not that simple, pussy toes. We don’t know how but there has been this barrier that keeps us here and whenever you try to leave you just end up back to the same place you died.” Rhonda snares.
You can see Maddie is slowly trying to process the information she just received. “That’s why we attend the group therapy sessions, it may seem silly, but it helps knowing you aren’t alone.” Tommy says. Asking about Lily now, doesn’t seem like the right time you thought. “Wait so you all died here at this school, how has it not been shut down?” Maddie asks. “Bets us. Anyways I would love to stay and chat, but I want to do some training, care to join me, Y/N?” Wally asks as he extends his hand to you. “Sure Wally, but I’m reading my book on the bench not running around if I don’t need too.” You said taking his hand. “I wouldn’t expect anything less from you Darling” Wally responds as you and him leave the library. When out the room Maddie asks. “They seem close.” “Oh yeah they have been best friends since birth, even died on the same day- separate accidents though. But yeah over 40 years of friendship between them too, not even death separated them.” Charley replies.
