You've been cast into a fictional setting, and you don't get to pick your genre. This wheel picks it for you.
OK so lemme just—
I know this seems like a wild take but I stick by it. On the surface Raph and Shredder may seem very similar but I truly think Donnie has a bit more in common with him instead
The only thing Raph and Shredder have in common, to me at least, is rage.
Rage isn't all who Shredder is. Rage isn't all who Raph is either, but their anger is different. Raph's more emotional in his anger, more reactive. If someone pisses him off he shows how he feels immediately. He's not the type to bide his time and form a plan. He's also not a very good leader, as seen when he froze up in New Girl in Town.
But Shredder is.
He's cold and calculated in his plans even when blinded by rage and seeking revenge. He's extremely cunning and dedicated to his goals and will stop at nothing to achieve them, even if it involves taking the life of someone who's wronged him, no matter what anyone says or what he has to do.
So, does that remind you of anyone?
Out of all the turtles, Donnie, as far as I know, is the only one to have an arc that revolves around him trying to kill someone out of revenge for a past incident and having to be taught otherwise. Leo hasn't, Mikey hasn't, and Raph hasn't either. From what I know, it's only been Donnie.
And of course I can't talk about parallels without bringing up the love triangle between him, April and Casey.
It's obvious that Donnie doesn't like Casey at first, because he's jealous. Jealous because of his feelings for April and towards himself and how Casey manages to tear everything apart. He saw him as a love rival and feared for the day that April chooses Casey over him, so he lashed out.
Shredder was jealous because Tang Shen chose Splinter over him. He was consumed by his feelings and lashed out as well, although he had more fatal consequences.
Thankfully the love triangle never got to the point of murder obviously, but Donnie and Casey very much fought a lot because of their affection for April, just like Shredder, Splinter and Tang Shen.
Admittedly a lot of this is a reach and maybe a bit surface level but I've wrote enough and figured I should get this off my chest somehow °3°
I'm kinda in the mood for some 12! Donnie angst so I wanna get the ball rolling by mentioning how I think he has more similarities with the Shredder than Raph does :p
Daily Danganronpa Fun Fact #353
In the earlier drafts for Nagito, he was described as being a character equivalent to the Joker from Batman.

A very messy "comic" about Donnie, Casey, and their potentially unhealthy codependency on each other- 🖤💜
I'm so sorry for the way this looks, but this week and next week are going to be pretty hectic for me, and I didn't know when I would get to post again-! So I just wanted to finish something before the week began-! 😭👍
I'll definitely do more (And objectively better-) art of this concept in the future, but I really really enjoy the concept of Donnie starting out as the very unhealthily invested one out of the two of them and that behavior kind of imprinting on Casey in a way? Or even if it wasn't imprinting, it's possible that Casey started to mirror these behaviors because of his own insecurities and issues (i.e. Struggling with parental neglect and being abandoned frequently-), not to mention the fact that Donnie made him feel safe to do so- You know what I mean? Which in turn would cause Donnie to begin having this self-reflection or epiphany about their relationship and his role to play in this current dynamic (With the help of Raph, since I feel like he would very bluntly point this out- But out of love, of course-),, Thus leading Donnie to break up with Casey. 😔
But I also like the concept of this breakup, because of the contrasting perspectives both of them have with it. From Donnie's perspective, he's trying to do better and do right by Casey. Donnie now knows / fully understands that enabling this kind of relationship between them was bad, and he's trying to rectify that mistake by giving them both the space and time that they need to heal from any damage that was caused. But from Casey's perspective, he feels like he's being punished for finally having the courage to be vulnerable and let his walls down- For giving in to the security that Donnie provided in this relationship,, it's really sad, but it's also really interesting to think about to me because I hate joy- /j LMAO
Fucker got an evil space clone can't have SHIT in tmnt 👊😔
Old AU concept I had that I finally turned into something
Jhfsstjhfjhs you're welcome!!! I actually really like the thin lines, I think it gives it a sort of soft flowy look that I think is pretty hard to accomplish with thicker lines
I actually have the exact opposite problem tbh, I've been favoring thicker lines in my art, but when I try to use thinner lines, I can't capture the flowing weightless detail like I want too
(tbh I think the coloring of the lineart might aid in that so next time I line that might be something I try hehegeg,,)
Something about your artstyle is so beautiful and satisfying to look at I'm literally addicted to it,,
Aww !! Thank you so much !! I try my best, honestly- 😭👍✨
I've said this on my other platforms as well, but sometimes I feel really bad for using such thin lines all the time,, I just worry that it makes my art kind of hard to see or hard to make out clearly-? And then I'll try doing thick lines instead (But it's obvious I'll erase it in places to make it look appealing to me- The best examples of this that I've already posted are my 2012 Mikey and Leo collages as well as my Vampiric 2012 Jonatello post !), but that's never as appealing to me ( + it's more time consuming to do that-) as the thin lines are so I often feel conflicted,, 😭
But it does make me feel good to know that you think it looks satisfying ! I hope to improve and make even better fan art for this franchise ! 🫶✨
Another sneak peak to keep ya on your toes,,,
I finally hit 3,000 words!!! This thing's gonna be LONG
✨trauma dumping at each other✨
I've been working on wip fics for quite a while now but rn I'm going full throttle on my tmnt 2012 Tokyo Ghoul AU and I've just been working on this quick little one shot about Donnie going through The Horrors™. Because of course I am
I actually kinda wanna talk about a common trope I've seen a lot in tmnt 2012 + rise crossovers involving interactions between the two Donnies, specifically about 12 Donnie's romantic feelings and stalkerish tendencies towards his April, because I do think there's actually room for analysis in there about how rise Donnie would feel about it. I personally don't think it would be the "lol ew you're weird" that I typically see in these kinds of crossovers (I know it's supposed to be a joke most of the time but still).
🔽Here we go🔽
(Tumblr only allows one video per post, so all the necessary clips used to make my point will be compiled into this video that I will be referencing back to)
To begin, let's start with the fact that rise Donnie is no stranger to keeping tabs on his bothers without them knowing.
He admits that he "records everything" in The Clothes Don't Make the Turtle, and that he at some point before the events of the movie put subcutaneous tracking devices in his brothers (and possibly even Casey too despite not knowing him for that long), and in both of those scenes, none of them seem to have known about it up until those points.
So he's perfectly fine with spying on people, but unlike 12 Donnie, he seems to keep tabs on his family and friends through more indirect means like trackers and recording them instead of just straight up stalking them. You could argue that using more isolated methods instead could be a way for him to justify it, since tracking devices and recordings that you don't particularly have to be present for are a few steps removed from physically following someone around, but given how Donnie seems perfectly willing to resort to violence and murder in many instances I genuinely don't think it's an issue of morality for him. I think he just believes spying with his tech is simply more effective and time saving
So he's fine with spying on his brothers, but we don't exactly know if he'd do the exact same thing in romantic relationships. I do think it's likely, since him placing trackers on them is most likely a way for him to ensure their safety without being upfront about it, so if he cares about someone romantically he'd probably do the same thing too.
Rise as a series doesn't have too much romance in general but there are at least two hints in the show about Donnie and how he feels about romance, particularly in War and Pizza and Mascot Melee.
He calls Cherry Tomato "cute and mean" and asks himself why he always goes for her type, and calls Atomic Lass his childhood idle before asking her if she was single after their dance fight. He's clearly capable of having romantic feelings for certain people, but these examples aren't real people in-universe, so it's entirely possible that he only experience romantic attraction to fictional characters. That's also another degree of separation since April in 2012 is a real person whereas Cheery and Atomic Lass are not.
So I think that's it for rise Donnie. On to 2012
One other thing I've seen that's pretty common with this trope is people making 12 Donnie act all...proud for how he acts around April? Where he admits to stalking her like it's some casual thing? Which...he absolutely would not do.
In Mutagen Man Unleashed, he looked embarrassed—almost ashamed even—to admit here that he was following her before hand, meaning he knows it's wrong and quite possibly wishes he hadn't done it in the first place. I would say it's probably likely he feels guilty because he got caught, but given the fact that he voluntarily admitted that he knew April was at the park with Casey, I personally doubt it.
Since it's very likely Donnie's feelings towards April potentially stem from his self-hatred of being a mutant, I honestly don't think he'd be that proud of the fact that he's stalked her in the past.
This crossover trope ESPECIALLY wouldn't work after season 3 episode 2.
A Foot Too Big's entire overarching plot revolves around Donnie's feelings towards April, and him being confronted with the truth of how he's been acting around her.
(Now in my opinion this episode didn't even do a good job of that anyway considering that Donnie never followed her around LITERALLY all the time or grabbed her or kissed her without consent, which—by the way—is considered sexual assault, but this isn't the point I'm trying to make here. Maybe for a future analysis)
Point is, at that point Donnie has already learned his lesson, so it would make justifying the whole "12 Donnie would lovingly talk about stalking April as if it's normal" even harder to justify.
Tl;dr: I honestly doubt rise Donnie would care about 12 Donnie's behavior towards April, especially considering the fact that 12 Donnie is not proud of it and has learned from it. In all honesty I can see the most likely outcome of them meeting being 12 Donnie nervously admitting that he used to follow her around only for rise Donnie to tell him that if he's really worried that much he should just put a tracker on her, and that it'll save him half the effort.
Anyway that's all, take care :3
