Tonight, I attended the opening of Dermot Seymour's 'The Nine Primates of Ulster' at the Kevin Kavanagh Gallery, Chancery Lane, Dublin 8. The event began with Dermot conversing with Martin Mackin before answering questions from an audience about his work. Afterwards, the atmosphere was relaxed with plenty of chat.
Each of Dermot's paintings featured the portrait of a different species of money or ape. He did not specify any of these species in the titles of his paintings. The faces and eyes of these animals were painted in sharp expressive detail while their shoulders and background appeared more blurred and abstract. I liked 'Primate of Cavan' and 'Primate of Monaghan' due to their compositions. Dermot's show will run until 12th Oct 2024.

Yesterday, I visited the marble and metal head of Luke Kelly created by Vera Klute. I thought the portrait was very well done in design and execution. A lovely sense of movement and striking facial expression. I loved the hair.
Classy.
Tonight, I attended the opening of Michael Wann's exhibition 'The Old Grieving Fields' at Solomon Fine Art, Balfe Street, Dublin 2. I enjoyed looking at his many drawings done in charcoal on paper. He had created most of his artworks in a nice compact size from 23 x 30 cm to 70 x 60 cm.
I will discuss my favourite drawings starting with 'Omens/Crows Arriving'. It appeared quite eye-catching with all the passing birds in flight.
Omens/Crows Arriving by Muchael Wann
His 'Controlled Explosion' was the most dramatic image in his exhibition.
Controlled Explosion by Michael Wann
I liked his attention to detail in his road images.
The Old Work Road by Michael Wann
The High Bog Road by Michael Wann
A joy to view. Both artworks were small and hung in their own alcove with a third artwork that was similar in dimensions and subject matter.
I found this image to be evocative.
Aerial 3, Night Visions by Michael Wann
It reminded me of a dystopian vision of the future with fires burning in the distance under a dark sky.
Then there was the striking composition of helicopters flying in loose formation.
Recon by Michael Wann
I liked the short title. It added a sense of storytelling to this image.
Michael's exhibition will run until 1st Mar 2025. It was well worth seeing it.

Finally got around to practice blogging on Tumblr before going to my computer course tonight. I meant to do this before hand but time just flies. Classy for the moment.
Tonight, I attended the opening of Sean Conlon’s exhibition ‘The Empowerment of Nature’. Sean was very nice and I enjoyed viewing his work especially his woodland scenes like ‘The Bluebell Place’ and ‘Sunday Evening at Emo’. The music was complimenting the show was excellent. Classy.
I attended the opening of ‘Clayworks at the Printworks’ at Dublin Castle, Dame St, Dub 2 last Saturday 7th July 2018. The event, also the annual Ceramics Ireland Open Submission Members Exhibition, was well attended in a relaxed atmosphere. There was everything on view ranging from contemporary domestic ware through to decorate bowls to abstract installations. As a member of Ceramics Ireland, I had submitted a piece. Get a load of all these eyes.
I called my piece ‘All Eyes For You’.
‘Clayworks at the Printworks’ will run until 29th July 2018. Classy.
Jonathan Hunter at Hillsboro
Tonight, I attended the opening of Jonathan Hunter's exhibition at Hillsboro Fine Art, 49 Parnell Square West, Dublin 1 D01 A971. It was well attended. The atmosphere was quite relaxed. Jonathan's paintings were full of life and colour particularly the paintings that featured plants like 'Aleums', 'Vase' and 'Song of Colour'. His exhibition called 'The Listening Field' will run until 13th April 2024.

Last night, I attended the opening of Eilis O'Connell's new exhibition 'Hardware/ Software' at Solomon Fine Art, Balfe Street, Dublin 2 D02 T802 beside the Westbury Hotel. The Venue was packed and had a lively atmosphere. It was worth the time and effort to go. Loved the sense of form and line in Eilis' work. Her exhibition will continue on Sat 18th Nov 2023.
