Another addition to this AU because It's been living in my head rent free for ages. I can't do a Pacific Rim AU without recreating the iconic Kwoon scene. Also, I was too lazy to draw backgrounds so I just stole them from the movie Ā ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Under the cut is a teaser of the fic I'm trying to write. It's a first draft, so there's probably some mistakes. Also, I'm still kind of in Screen Writing mode from school, so please don't mind if there's not a lot of internal character narration.
āFour points to two,ā Luke calls after the final candidate falls. His emotions are carefully masked on his face but Din can see how tense he is.Ā
āWeāre wasting time, Marshal. Heās barely compatible with any of them, this isnāt going to work,ā Luke says.
āWhat do you suggest?ā The Marshal raises a brow.Ā
āPut me in charge, Iām drift compatible with several cadets. We donāt need him.ā Luke gestures towards Din. The look on his face makes Dinās blood boil. Contempt. What did he ever do to Luke to earn this?
āWhatās your problem, Skywalker?ā Din stomps towards the edge of the mat.Ā
āIāve already told you, I donāt think you're the right man for the job,ā Luke replies. Heās now turned squarely towards Din, his face back to that eerie calm. It sends a shiver down Dinās spine.Ā
āNo, thereās more. Youāve got a problem with me.ā Din steps closer, trying to ignore the piercing blue of Lukeās eyes.Ā
āEnough! both of you.ā Marshal Skywalker turns to them both.Ā
āIf you think youāre so much better, then letās go.ā Din points his bÅ at Luke. āIf you win, you can pilot the Crest. If I win, you back off.ā Din holds Luke's gaze, projecting his challenge.Ā
āNeither of you are in the position to make that decision,ā Anakin states, breaking the spell.Ā
āWhat? Think your own blood isnāt good enough to beat me?ā Din didnāt know Marshal Skywalker that well, but from what he did know, the man was prideful. Maybe it wasnāt the smartest move, but it got him what he wanted.Ā
The Martial turned towards Luke, earning his attention. No words were exchanged between them, the Martial simply gave a nod. A brief look of satisfaction washed over Lukeās face. Din turned towards the mat to prepare for the fight before Lukeās eyes turned back to him.Ā
Luke stepped to the edge of the mat, shoes and outer shirt removed. He bowed at the waist before stepping forward. He was in a simple black tank top and the standard cargo pants. It was the first time Din had seen any of his skin exposed beyond his face. His arms and neck were covered in pale, lightning-like scars that looked like they extended beyond what Din could see. He wasnāt sure what to make of them. He knew almost nothing about Luke when he really thought about it. Only what he heard from the news from the past four years.
He had to admit, it made him earn a little more respect for the kid. At first heād seemed like a petulant child who was getting his favorite toy taken away, but now, Din wasnāt as sure that was the case. He had no more time to think on it as he and Luke passed each other on the mat, walking to opposite sides, then turning to face each other.Ā
In the blink of an eye Luke swung his bÅ with the finesse of a warrior. He moved forward before stopping in the middle of the mat as he pulled his bÅ up in defense. Din followed suit, taking on a more aggressive starting position. He could tell Luke was analyzing him, eyes flitting around to every point of his body. Din took the opportunity to attack. In one swift moment he had his bÅ mimicking a strike at Lukeās skull.Ā
āOne, Zero.ā The words had barely left his mouth before Luke made a counter attack. In a flash Luke had reversed their positions with a satisfied smirk.Ā
Without wasting any more time the two began to fight again in an explosion of movement. The people in the kwoon reacted to them, but Dinās focus narrowed in until it was only them in the room. He watched Lukeās movements carefully, anticipating and blocking every attack that came and returning his own. He picked up on a franticness in Lukesās movements and took advantage, landing an attack on his ribs.Ā
āYouāre too eager, youāre projecting your moves,ā Din commented as they reset.Ā
āI donāt need your advice.ā Despite his words, Luke waited, ready for Dinās next move.Ā
Luke swiftly blocked everything Din threw at him and pushed back even harder. In the next moment Luke attacked with a flurry of blows, catching Din off guard. He was stronger than he looked.Ā
āTwo, two.ā Luke had once again evened the score.Ā
There was barely a pause before they were at it again. This bout lasted longer than the others, both having picked up on each otherās gambit. They danced around each other, the only sound in Dinās ears were the clacking of their bÅ staffs and their heavy breathing. Neither was holding back.Ā
In a blur of motion Luke darted towards Dinās legs, throwing him off balance. Din rolled out of the throw but as he lifted his head he was met with Lukeās bÅ to his throat. Luke's eyes were no less intense this close.Ā
āTwo, Three.ā Luke stepped back into a ready position. āBetter watch out, Djarin.ā There was a satisfied smirk on his face. He was winning. Din wouldnāt give up that easily.Ā
He pulled out every trick he had, but Luke seemed to always be a step ahead. He was too fast, almost as if he could read Dinās mind. From the outside it would almost look like this was rehearsed. In the end, it was Dinās weight advantage that won him the point. He moved in close and pinned Luke's arm before throwing him down to the mat. The blond hit the ground on his back, breath escaping his lungs from the impact.Ā
Din almost went to help him up but Luke threw his legs backwards into a handstand before standing back up. He barely looked affected, the only sign of fatigue on him was the sweat on his forehead that matted down his blond hair.Ā
āThree, Three,ā Din called. āAnd thereās no need to show off.āĀ
The next point would declare a winner. There was a smile on Lukeās face, different from the ones before. This one was more open, leaving Din feeling dizzy instead of insulted.Ā
Din tried to understand it but there was no more time to ponder as Luke set on his next attacks. He was more aggressive than heād been the rest of the fight but Din pushed back, not without some difficulty. Luke danced around Din with a frightening agility. The only thing that kept Din in the fight for so long were his reflexes. He knew he had to end this fight soon or Luke would eventually wear him down.Ā
In a decisive move Din attacked at Lukeās head, trading off his defense for offense. He had Luke on the move, nearly pushing him off the mat. However, before he could land a finishing blow Luke darted to the side, slipping his leg between Dinās and toppling him to the floor. When Din processed what happened, he was pinned under Lukeās hips on his chest and his bÅ at his neck.Ā
Cheers erupted from the gathered crowd, but Dinās view had narrowed into Luke as he stood up. Din stayed on the ground, still a bit stunned from the end of the fight. He wasnāt really sure how to feel about its outcome. But one thing was for certain, he and Luke were drift compatible. Very drift compatible.Ā
Din was so lost in his thoughts he didnāt even realize Luke was reaching down to him until his hand was in his face. He took it and allowed Luke to help him to his feet.Ā
āYou felt it too, didnāt you?ā Luke asked.
āYeah.ā
āBeen re-watching ATLA recently and got the sudden urge to finish a fic Iāve been working on. Itās a Haikyuu AU fic set in the world of ATLA and follows the *general* plot of the show, but I take a lot of liberties to make it how I want. Itās pretty light on shipping in the beginning but I have plans. Really I just wanted to practice writing plot without getting caught up in world building and character development like I usually do. So I decided to post about it here since I want to get feedback. Even though Iāll be posting on AO3 I wanted something a little more behind the scenes to get some extra interaction.Ā
Here are some brief concepts that found their way into this little project of mine.
Hinata is the avatar. There are definitely a good number of candidates for this role, but I thought Iād have the most fun writing Hinata as the main character for this one. His journey in Haikyuu is full of struggle and growth and I think there are a lot of parallels there to work with when it comes to him being the avatar.Ā
There are a lot of side characters in this. They arenāt super prominent but I think itās fun when some more overlooked characters pop in here and there. Like Dateko are all guards on the walls of Ba Sing Se or Nekoma fills the general role of the white lotus, but as more of a secret rebel group within the fire nation.Ā
As a consequence of the plot I have laid out, these are the main pairings:
Hinata/Kageyama
Bokuto/Akaashi
Tsukishima/Yamaguchi
Oikawa/Iwaizumi
These four get the most development and drama but plenty of others get their moments and are certainly not ignored (mostly because I love them too much). Those being:
Daichi/Suga
Asahi/Nishinoya
Kuroo/Kenma
Sakusa/Atsumu
Osamu/Suna
Ushijima/Tendo
and some others who donāt really get too much attention but are mentioned
Iāve seen a lot of people put Tsukishima in the role of Yue, which makes sense with his name and whatnot, but I went with something a little different. I have Akaashi filling that roll and I took inspiration from Yue and Sokkaās relationship to write Bokuto and Akaashiās. I think, like Yue, Akaashi would have this sense of duty to his people and that is very interesting to write IMO. (Donāt worry, major character death is not one of the tags for this).
Iāll probably have art for this! Iāve done a couple of sketches already but I think Iād like to do at least some doodles for most of the chapters.Ā
There will be a lot of angst, but nothing super hardcore. Iām a sucker for angst with a happy ending, so if you donāt like sad endings youāve come to the right place!
There is a lot of character exploration. Iāll do my best to keep everyone in character but I also think they would be different when put into these situations. I try my best to write them as believably as possible while still also having them serve the roles they need to in the story.Ā
Iāll probably post more about this even if not many people are interested. I think itāll be fun to document this little journey of mine and perhaps keep some ideas written down somewhere. I also love to bounce ideas off of people so if anyone would like to reach out Iād be super happy!
Addition to this post hehe
I read it and absolutely loved it, would recommend!
Iāve heard some mumblings about the fandom that, with the arrival of ExtraƱa Forma de Vida at Cannes, some folks want DinLuke Western content! For those new to the fandom, let me point you towards my completed story No Glory in the West. Itās high romance with horses and gunfights and boots and spurs and saloons - weāve got it all!
Even tho this is a continuation of an AU it was also my gift for the @stardads DinLuke Secret Santa! I was so hype to get Pacific rim AU for a prompt!! Hope yall had a good holiday season and enjoy this update!
Little excerpt from the wip under the cut.
Din stepped out of the helicopter to sheets of rain pouring down on him. He raised a hand to try and block the water from his eyes to little success. He watched as Ahsoka jogged down the landing pad towards two figures and thought it was best to follow suit.Ā
Before he could get a good look at anyone an umbrella was shoved into his hand, which solved the rain problem at least. That found him face to face with two figures, one he recognized and one he didnāt.Ā
āThis is Marshal Skywalker, though Iām sure you already know that,ā Ahsoka said. Din took the Marshalās proffered hand and shook it quickly.Ā
āHello sir, itās been a while,ā Din stumbled out. Skywalker was just as intimidating as he remembered. Tall, burn scars on his neck, and intense eyes that spoke of years of experience in the k-war.Ā
āGlad you could join us. Youāre a hard man to find Djarin.āĀ
āThat was the point,ā Din blurted out before he could think better. The only thing that seemed to save him was Ahsokaās small chuckle at the comment.
āMr. Djarin, this is Luke, heās in charge of the Mark Three restoration program.ā The other figure stepped forward from his place behind the Marshal. Din recognized him from the news coverage Grogu made him watch, but he was much different in person. On TV he was easy, almost cocky smiles and casual postures. Here, he was stern, with a military stiffness to his shoulders. He stared up at Din with bright blue eyes, not unlike the color of Kaiju Blue.Ā
Din found himself intrigued by the pilot, the difference between him on the TV and now. It wasn't just his demeanor either, sure he looked charming in interviews, but even with his hard stare, and his blonde hair matted down by the humidity, he was striking. He looked almost too soft to be a pilot, the only thing betraying his profession was the small scar on his upper lip. He was also young, couldn't be much older than 21 if Din had to guess. He certainly hadn't been a pilot back when Din had been, which also betrayed his age beyond his looks.Ā
āHe personally handpicked the list of your potential co-pilots,ā Marshal Skywalker continued.Ā
āWait, I thought you were a pilot. Why are you doing restoration?ā Din asked. The glare that earned him from Luke was chilling. He opened his mouth to respond but was cut off by the Marshal.Ā
āWith Red Five destroyed and his co-pilot out of commission, Ranger Skywalker has been reassigned.ā At that, Lukeās glare shifted towards the Marshal but it was carefully ignored.Ā
āHow about we go inside before we discuss anything further,ā Ahsoka suggested. No one could really argue with that, so they all headed through the thick metal doors into the Shatterdome.Ā
As they entered, Luke grabbed Dinās umbrella and placed it in a bucket near the door. With a lurch the large elevator they had stepped into began its descent.Ā
āRanger Skywalker?ā Din said, gaining Lukeās attention. āYouāre related to the Marshal?āĀ
āHeās my father,ā Luke answered. His voice was tight, a slight furrow to his brow left over from whatever had slighted him before. Din wasnāt too surprised, most pilots were proud. If Luke had been grounded due to his Jaeger being out of commission he probably took that as a slight against his abilities.Ā
āI heard Red Five was out of commission last month,ā Grogu had been inconsolable after hearing about the destruction of his favorite Jaeger. āI didnāt know it was piloted by the Marshalās son.ā
āWe try to keep it out of the media,ā Luke explained. āNot really a secret, but thereās no reason to advertise it either. Makes both our jobs easier.ā Din caught the pained expression on the Marshalās face from the corner of his eye. But as soon as it was there it was gone and the Marshal spoke up again.Ā
āFirst weāll give you a tour of the facility and then Ranger Skywalker will show you to your Jaeger. First thing in the morning weāll find you your co-pilot.āĀ
āMarshal, youāre aware that Iām not drift compatible with most pilots, right?ā Din inquired. It had been something nagging at the back of his head since heād agreed to this mess. He wanted to keep Grogu safe, no matter how much he dreaded getting back into a Jaeger, but if he couldnāt even find a co-pilot this would all be for nothing.Ā
āYouāre the only Mark Three pilot left, itās our best bet to have you in Razor Crest for this mission,ā the Marshal explained.Ā
āWait, you restored the Crest?ā Din looked from the Marshal to Ahsoka.Ā
āWhoops, did I forget to mention that?ā Ahsoka said with a poorly masked smile.Ā
Din was a bit unsure how to feel. Heād spent his best years in the Crest back in the day, but it had also been the site of his greatest failure. Before he could fall down that train of thought something else caught him up.
āHold on, what mission? No one has told me exactly whatās happening here.ā Before he could get a response the elevator doors opened and everyone was shuffling out. As they approached two heavy metal doors a worker moved to a lever to open them. With loud creaks the doors shifted to the side revealing the center of the Shatterdome.
Mark Hamill is a legend but I think it's time to recast. (They've already done it anyway with Solo)
Graham Hamilton as Luke Skywalker BTS Shots of The Book of Boba Fett
He's so adoraaable. He's giving "Padme's favorite child" energy šāØ Post ROTJ Luke would work so well on him.
