I Love You, King Zeus.

i love you, king zeus.

i love you, lady hestia.

i love you, lord apollo.

i love you, lady athena.

i love you, lady aphrodite.

i love you, lord poseidon.

i love you, lord hermes.

i love you, gods that i don’t actively worship.

i’ve been slacking on my devotion lately but i’ll always love the gods and they’ll always understand. they know that as long as i’m alive, i am living for them.

Some of my favorite moments from the Sense8 finale:

Lito using the most stereotypical French disguise complete with giant baguettes, beret and a fake mustache

Mun showing up straight outta nowhere to save Sun, and them just being absolutely, sickeningly lovestruck in general

Dani reading Whispers for filth

The Squad enthusiastically pretending to be blissfully ignorant tourists in Naples

Kala being like, I know y’all are sad about me getting shot but can someone please try to resuscitate me first thanks a bunch

The return of Wolfgang’s bazooka

Lito directly telling Wolfgang “We love you”

Mun saying he met Sun’s family and it cutting to him meeting Jindo

That end montage flashing back to when the couples first met

The very last shot of the entire series being of Nomi and Amanita’s rainbow dildo

Religious Daemon Headcanons pt 1

*All the respect, of course. No offense is meant to anyone. This was just me pondering how daemons might work in various religious traditions, completely fictional*

During Catholic masses, daemons tend to be quiet and respectful. They are careful not to make too much movement, too many sounds, or draw too much attention to themselves. Some daemons that are small enough prefer to stay ON their person, while others remain next to them. Larger daemons often rest on the outsides of the pews, while bird daemons will perch above.

Muslim daemons pray salah with their humans. They receive their own separate prayer mats. No matter their form, as best as they can muster, they will perform prostration and bow in the direction of the Kaaba.

Angels don’t have daemons, but jinn do.

A daemon knows as much Quran as their respective human. If the human is a Hafiz, the daemon is also considered one by both humans and daemons.

During kirtan in various traditions, daemons will sing alongside their humans, rather than staying silent. This is a contrast to some mass services, where only some daemons may choose to speak during the expected portions. More ecstatic forms of worship such as those found in Evangelical traditions also hold a significant amount of daemon vocality/activity within them.

There are some daemon form symbolisms that tend to carry on in each individual tradition. In Christianity, snake daemons may often invoke feelings of anxiety/apprehension in others. In Judaism and Islam, pigs may also be considered in the same way. Not as inherently “negative”, but connected to more stereotypes. Similarly, positive animals may be seen more favorably. For example, doves and lions in Christianity and cats in Islam.

In Hinduism, it is especially auspicious if you have certain daemons that are associated with one’s respective deity. For example, Calfs/cows for Krishna. There are numerous holidays revolving around the celebration of ones daemon. Just as humans have coming of age rituals, the daemons parents will often also celebrate the daemons respective rituals if they are involved.

Although daemon settling can happen at any point through ones teenage years, it is often expected for Jewish boys and girls to settle around their bar and bat mitzvah. It may not always happen, but there is an association between them. The same can be said for Confirmation, which often happens during high school.

There is no consensus on Jesus’ daemon (or Mary’s). Different scripture in the New Testament remembers his daemon differently. A lion, a pelican, a dove, a lamb. It could be, perhaps, that his daemon never settled at all. In Islam, all prophets are thought to have had never settling daemons, a reflection of their protection from sin and failure by Allah (swt).

There ARE cases of daemons differing in religious opinions than their human. The two are not always in sync with one another, and can feel differently. This is often a reflection of the persons own internal struggle.

will eventually have more, just had what was off the top of my head.

Some headcanons!

Touch ID! Phones can regongise a dæmon’s paw print or maybe a feather print or just their skin in general as well as yours, so that if you’re in an emergency your dæ can unlock your phone for you! (Also would probably end up with you finding a lot of selfies your dæ took whilst you were looking away from your phone)

Playgrounds! Playgrounds having special adaptations so dæmons of all shapes and sizes can play with their humans. Would probably include more open spaces for bigger dæs and not having climbing frames that are so narrow and closed in, whilst also having places where children with smaller dæs can hide out and feel protected and closed in. Also the playgrounds would probably be bigger in general for kids with bigger dæmons and if the people caring for them have bigger dæs

Sleepovers with your dæ! Kids and teens staying up late with their dæmons and nicking sweets from the cupboards. Watching scary films on their phone and comforting eachother when it gets scary (and trying not to be too loud and wake up parents).

Feel free to add more! Like seriously, add more we are obsessed with modern dæmon headcanons 😂

some ideas for non-verbal spell casting:

so i’m a pretty quiet person irl, and i find a lot of spellbooks and posts on here include verbalization in the form of incantations, mantras, et cetera.

which is all well and good if that works for you, whatever floats your boat and casts your spell; but what if you’re like me and verbalizations make you uncomfortable?

or you’re practicing late at night while your housemates are asleep?

or you just. prefer to not speak?

well, here are some alternatives!

say your incantation internally

visualize your incantation

make your incantation physical (could you add movement/gestures to your spell?)

make it symbolic (breaking something, binding something, burying it?)

use a noisemaker! (eg. a bell, clap, a song, note, chord, etc)

simply do without! not every spell or ritual needs a verbal component, and maybe you’re just not that kind of practitioner. that’s okay!

i’m sure there are tons of things that i’ve left off or forgotten, and i definitely want to hear more ideas if you have them!

wind be with you!

when is an appropriate time for one to pray to the Greek gods? What if someone wants to pray to Them daily? How should one go about becoming serious about their worship?

Generally speaking, I think it’s fine to pray at any time you feel called to, and it’s absolutely fine to pray every day.

Historically it was more common to make offerings to chthonic gods (gods of the dead or of the earth, such as Hades and Persephone among others) at night, so that might be something you find meaning in.

As for becoming serious, I’d suggest that practice is the best guide. The specifics of that practice would vary depending on different factors–for example, if you have a reconstructionist focus you would want to stick as closely as possible to the historical model, although certainly that isn’t the one and only way to honor the gods.

For me what helped was just establishing a regular practice and sticking with it..That might include a regular daily prayer or prayers, offerings made on a monthly basis (a number of the gods have specific days devoted to them, such as Artemis on the 6th or Poseidon on the 8th), a schedule of festivals/rituals you observe over the year (alone or with a group), meditation and visualization work, or whatever brings you closer to the gods. Find something that has meaning for you and keep at it, even when you may not be feeling the inspiration so strongly!

Entitled moms and dæmons

So I was browsing r/entitledparents the other day and I had a thought: Karens like these would be so much worse if dæmons became corporeal.

Think about it:

They don’t respect boundaries

They don’t think their kids should have to respect your boundaries

In some of them, the entitled parent goes so far as to break the law

They probably wouldn’t care about the taboo

“Your dæmon is really cute! Can my kid pet them?” Yeah, hell no!

It would be awful (and probably illegal, falling under the definition of “assault”) it would be especially bad for cute, but uncommon forms. (Penguins, small owls, primates, small wild cats etc.)

Especially if they became corporeal in our world, instead of a world like Lyra’s where they’ve always been corporeal. The taboo wouldn’t be a thing at first, and it would be a while before the laws were revised to classify it as assault.

Concept: Social Classes and daemons.

aw fuck i can’t believe you’ve done this (but i’m also glad you did because this idea is a big one)

social classs are already so complex, the way people are treated based on social class and income are already so askskskgha but to add dæmons to the mix? are people gonna start treating others like second class citizens because of their dæmon’s form? maybe if someone doesn’t conform to the expected dæmon for types of their class they’re given a harder time than others that do? maybe in a capitalist society dæmons are seen as a commodity rather than as your soul and other people living in different parts of the world are disgusting by our attitudes towards it? ofc if dæmons were physical tomorrow companies would start selling us dæmon related shit the day after without a doubt

but back to social class, there would likely be social expectations placed on people to determine what form their dæmon “should” be based on their social class. maybe only certain forms are acceptable for certain people, maybe women are expected to settle as x amount of forms because of bullshit gender expectations, maybe people of color are expected to settle as only certain animals under the guise of “that’s their culture!” while other people don’t have those expectations placed on them at all. if having a dæmon means that you’re human then what implications does that have for people who are viewed as less than human? fucking yikes™️. the world might even get to the point where dæmon forms are largely influenced by need based on lower social standing rather than opportunity associated with higher class standing. kids exposed to more stuff and given a better education would be more likely to choose forms that are diverse, kids that aren’t as lucky wouldn’t be given that chance at all and a dæmon form bottleneck between the upper and lower classes might form

i really do like those “what if dæmons suddenly appeared” ideas but at the same time it’s a potential hell world. things suddenly get a lot scarier
