On The 10 Year Anniversary Of Twilight, Director Catherine Hardwicke Reflects Back On Her Hit Film. With

She Broke Records With ‘Twilight.’ Then Hollywood Called Her ‘Difficult.’
Ten years ago, director Catherine Hardwicke grossed more than any woman ever had at the box office. She was thanked with a cupcake—and sexist Hollywood labels that hurt her career.

On the 10 year anniversary of Twilight, director Catherine Hardwicke reflects back on her hit film. With an opening weekend of just over $69 million, the film went on to earn $192 million in the U.S. alone, at the time a record breaking sum for a film directed by a woman.

Hardwicke’s description of Summit’s reaction to the financial success of the film:

When I went in I saw that there were massive bouquets and balloons and bottles of wine, and crazy gifts sent to them by all the distributors around the world or whoever, all their friends. So I actually had it in my mind, wow, this is a pretty unprecedented success. I had heard these rumors that when a director does something like this they give them a car, they give them a two-picture deal or something like that. They give them an office and ask them what they want to do after this.

And then I got a mini cupcake that day. I was like oh, OK, cool—coming in here, I’m sort of working for free, doing this online stuff, and that was what I was offered: a mini cupcake.

Here's how easy it is to spread dis-information on Twitter despite an on-going TELEVISED trial

Here's How Easy It Is To Spread Dis-information On Twitter Despite An On-going TELEVISED Trial

"ReemDepp" quoted something that Johnny Depp said about his kids while on the stand. The issue is that they did not quote the whole thing, leaving the door open to shit holes of false propaganda such as "popculturedie in2009"

This account goes on to claim Depp is a liar because there are public records of Amber and his kids together and texts from Lily-Rose at the beginning and during of their relationship. (Still based off the "ReemDepp" quote tweet.)

So, is Johnny Depp a liar ? Are we fucking stupid ? Do we live in a shit world ? Was a televised trial a good idea ?

Well. No Depp isn't a liar. Yes we are fucking stupid. Yes we live in a shit world. Yes a televised trial was a good idea. And here's why:

Johnny Depp was asked "And at the end of your relationship, how was Ms.Heard's relationship with your children ?"

Depp went on to reply: "Non-existent. (..) My children refused to be around her anymore."

He never insinuated that his kids never had a relationship with Heard. He never said that they always hated her.

Weirdos on social media put words in his mouth and as usual, distorted the truth.

All it takes people to do is pay attention, open their ears and I beg.. shut - the - fuck - up.

this verdict is not a setback for women and survivors.

what amber heard did — weaponizing her womanhood, taking advantage of the MeToo movement, alienating actual victims, and lying in an attempt to further abuse and punish her actual victim —

that is a setback for women and survivors.

DAY OF THE DEATH OFFERINGS (ALTARS) IN MEXICO

image

The offering (altar) for the dead should have several essential elements, and each of them has their mysticism:

Water. The source of life is offered to the souls to quench their thirst after their long journey and to strengthen their return. In some cultures symbolizes the purity of the soul.

Salt. The element of purification, serves so that the body is not corrupted in its round trip for the following year.

Candles. Ancient Mexicans used ocote slices. Today the candle is used; the flame it produces means faith and hope. It is a guide for the souls so they can reach their old places and return to their home. In several indigenous communities, each candle represents a deceased, that is, the number of candles that the altar will have will depend on the souls that the family wants to receive. If the tapers or candlesticks are purple, it is a sign of mourning; and if four of these are placed on a cross, they represent the four cardinal points, so that the soul can orient itself until it finds its way and its home.

Copal and incense. The copal was offered by the natives to their gods since the incense was not yet known, it arrived with the Spanish. It is the element that sublimates prayer or praise. Fragrance of reverence. It is used to cleanse the place of evil spirits so that the soul can enter your home without any danger.

Flowers. They adorn and aromatize the place during the soul's stay, which will leave happy when it leaves, the wallflower and the nube cannot be absent because they mean purity and tenderness, and they accompany the souls of the children.

In many parts of the country it is customary to put petal paths that serve to guide the deceased from the holy field to the offering and vice versa. The leafless yellow flower of the cempasuchil (Zempoalxóchitl) is the path of color and smell that trace the routes to the souls.

image

Petate. Among the many uses of the petate are that of a bed, table or shroud. On this particular day it works for the souls to rest as well as a tablecloth to place the food of the offering.

Izcuintle. This one should not be missing in the altars for children, it serves as a toy so the souls of the little ones feel happy when they arrive at the banquet. The izcuintle dog is the one that helps souls cross the mighty Chiconauhuapan river, which is the last step to reach Mictlán.

image

Bread. Made in different ways, bread is one of the most precious items on the altar. The most common one is the “bread of the death”, a bread sprinkled with sugar that symbolizes the bones of the living.

image

Gollete y cañas. Related to the tzompantli. The golletes are loaves in the shape of a wheel and are placed in the offerings supported by pieces of cane. Depending on your upbringing, they may symbolize the skulls of the defeated enemies and the cañas the rods where they were threaded OR the roundness of the gollete may symbolize the circle of life and the cañas the life passing through towards dead.

Other objects to commemorate and offer to the faithful departed are:

The portrait of the person remembered, in more traditional offerings it must remain hidden, so that it can only be seen with a mirror, to imply that the loved one can be seen but no longer exists.

The image of the Souls of Purgatory, to obtain the freedom of the soul of the deceased, just in case it is found in that place, to help it get out.

Other images of saints can be placed, to serve as a means of interaction between the dead and the living, since on the altar they are synonymous with good social relations. In addition, they symbolize peace at home and the firm acceptance of sharing food, such as apples, which represents blood, and kindness through the pumpkin in tacha candy.

The mole with chicken, hen or turkey, is the favorite dish that many indigenous people from all over the country put on the altar, although they also add barbecue and consommé. These dishes are that trail of aromas, the kitchen banquet in honor of remembered beings. Good food is intended to delight the soul that visits us. It is most traditional to place foods that were the favorites of the deceased that are awaited for the night. If adult souls are expected, you may find wine on the altar.

image

Chocolate water. Pre-Hispanic tradition says that the guests drank chocolate prepared with the water that the deceased used to bathe, so that the visitors were impregnated with the essence of the deceased.

Another very common element are sugar skulls. Medium sugar skulls are allusion to the ever-present death. The small skulls are dedicated to the Holy Trinity and the big one to the Eternal Father.

A washbasin, soap and towel can also be placed in case the soul needs to wash its hands after the long journey.

This post follows what the INPI (National Institute of Indigenous People) says about the Mexican Day of the Dead on its official page.

But thething is, scooter is threatening Taylor, the person who won artist of the decade, who is extremely powerful and such a game-changer in the music industry so do you really expect artists that work with/for him to speak up on her favor? It wont happen. He wont allow it. Imagine the manipulation they're under... I'd love for it to happen, it'd be an epic power move on their part, but it probably won't and I will not hold it against them.

These Are The Acts Associated With Scooter Braun. Unless These Artists Speak Up In Favour Of Artists

These are the acts associated with Scooter Braun. Unless these artists speak up in favour of artists rights, don’t stream their music.

*UPDATE* I’ve been informed CL is no longer apart of his label

Y'all wanna preach about the importance of bi/pan visibility but none of you mean it.

In 2018 two girls on a bachelor show fell in love with each other and quit the show. They were later seen at a Pride event and one of the girls was holding a bi pride flag but everybody still calls her a lesbian

Janelle Monáe came out as bi and everybody celebrated. Cool. She later specified as Pansexual and nobody listened. People still refer to her a bi and ignore fans who say that pansexual is more accurate for her. People even "jokingly" call her song "PYNK" a lesbian anthem.

Recently a "lesbian" wedding photoshoot went viral on Twitter and Tumblr. Both brides were bisexual.

Nobody cares about what bi men have to say unless it's to shit on pansexuals. Nobody even notices nonbinary bi/pansexuals unless it's to validate them as wlw/mlm.

The community revived terms like mlm, wlw and sapphic to be inclusive but it's obvious that nobody actually uses them in practice. It's absolutely exhausting to say this constantly and nobody wants to admit they're guilty of doing this shit.

Do better

Hi, I'm 25 and debating starting male-to-female HRT. However, I'm scared that HRT won't help me at all. It seems like HRT does so little after puberty, especially by the time one gets in their 20s. I'm really scared that I'll just end up being someone in a male body, but with breasts. Is there anything you can say to someone having this fear? Thank you, and sorry, I suspect this is a silly question.

Actually, the claim that HRT doesn’t do much after puberty is a myth.  I started when I was 31 years old and now I’m 35. =)

My issue with Camila's apology is that 6 years ago in 2013 a website published screenshots of her calling Normani the n-word and of problematic/racist stuff she published on her 1D stan account and she "apologized" in a tweet BUT months later she did it again and the same website called her out, this time she called Dinah Jane “ghetto fabulous,” called Barack Obama the n-word on her 1D account, and new screenshots of her calling Normani the n-word in a casual text conversation surfaced, plus this tweet:

My Issue With Camila's Apology Is That 6 Years Ago In 2013 A Website Published Screenshots Of Her Calling

Now, let's look at the "apology" back then:

My Issue With Camila's Apology Is That 6 Years Ago In 2013 A Website Published Screenshots Of Her Calling

Let's look at yesterday's apology about her tumblr posts:

My Issue With Camila's Apology Is That 6 Years Ago In 2013 A Website Published Screenshots Of Her Calling

Notice something? It's basically the same thing, but longer.

I think cancel culture has gotten out of control as people have both the ability and the right to grow, learn and change, and cancel culture does not allow that, but what irks me is that Camila's apology doesn't read as genuine because as you can see she repeated the same excuse disguised as an apology that she used 6 years ago and back then it wasn't long until she went back to her, and I quote, "immature and ignorant behaviour".

It’s not that Camila is necessarily a bad person or that she definitely hasn’t learned anything from her past mistakes, but as an increasingly-famous public figure, she has a responsibility to publicly acknowledge why her actions were inherently wrong and to give her fans more than an excuse. And given that she apologized shallowly before she needs to show she means it, that this is not another half-ass apology like in 2013.

Camila's albums are good and I'd like for her to show the growing she likes to talk about so much.
