I may have forgotten while writing my princess bride AU fanfiction

I WILL be stealing half of Wesley’s lines for Hiccup in my Princess Bride AU because they fit perfectly.

“As you wish.” Hiccup says as he’s rolling down a hill.

I’m having Snotlout be Vizzini because I can see him just using the word “inconceivable!” Over and over again.

“He didn’t fall?!” Snotlout exclaimed. “Inconceivable!”

“You keep using that word. I don’t think that word means what you think it means.” Tuffnut says.

Hiccup and Tuffnut sword fight scene:

“My name is Tuffnut Thorston and you killed my sister. Prepare to die.”

“Do you happen to have six fingers on your right hand?” Tuffnut would ask.

“Do you always start conversations this way??” (Hiccups line.)

It fits almost too well. Every single scene that has the masked man in is just pure Hiccup sass and chaos.

I’m writing a princess bride hiccstrid AU and this is very important.

What should the ROUS (rodents of unusual size) be? There are already dragons so I need something quick!

Maybe some type of dragon or something I can’t think of right now.

I’m genuinely considering writing a AU fic where Valka isn’t taken away to see if it would be a fun story/character study. It would be a one shot and from Valka’s perspective. Im either thinking of a narrative type or a ‘the many ways things could have gone down.’

I just got the idea of a time loop situation or a what if type fic of like ‘5 ways in which Valka’s decisions changed httyd’ or something.

Let me know if that’s something anyone wants or if anyone is interested in.

Do you guys ever wonder what would change if Valka went back or wasn’t taken at all. Because I do.

As much as I hate on Valka for abandoning her kid and being a shit mother, things really wouldn’t be better with her there.

Imagine having a extremest dragon hating father and an extremest dragon loving mother. It would be agony.

Hiccup is smart and smart in the way he can read people. He’s socially aware.

I imagine Valka would try to get Hiccup to share her love of dragons with her but it would probably backfire.

Hiccup in an already isolated world where killing a dragon is everything and is his only hope at becoming liked would not react well to being told to be friendly with the beasts. Imagine Hiccup being further bullied for his ‘crazy’ mother who loves dragons.

Hiccup canonly admired his dragon killing dad. Hiccup canonly did not give a crap about saving or being friends with dragons before Toothless.

It wouldn’t work in the long run either because there is now a high chance Hiccup wouldn’t become Gobber apprentice because Valka is now there. Which means no Toothless.

Hiccup would be further isolated. And from what I can tell, Valka is just like Stoick in the sense that she is driven by her extremest ideologies and doesn’t listen. Like Stoick she would push her own wants and desires onto Hiccup.

Wow, Valka being a horrible mother actually did some good. Thanks Valka for staying away. You should have stayed away forever.

I’m biased, I don’t like her. But still-

I like how most of RTTE is hiccup being a mother hen to his very crazy toddler children.

And then the opposite happens whenever he’s on an inventing frenzy.

Welp, new live action HTTYD trailer is out and Toothless has officially become an old man

Because of how different the Viking age was to modern day, I love that there’s so many career paths that HTTYD characters would take based on how well it fits with the Viking age careers. Because blacksmiths are very rare now (practically nonexistent) so Hiccup needs a new job. Anyways here’s some of my favorite hobbies/jobs I’ve seen/want modern au Hiccup to maybe have. I’ll only explain some.

Engineering major- inventor

A Digital artist

Architect

Welder

Horseback riding

Human geographer- or geographer in general

Zoology- or more specifically ornithology because hiccup loves studying dragons, why wouldn’t he love to study birds

Cartographer!

A psychics major- because he definitely has to calculate flying dynamics when he’s flying with toothless

A construction worker

Not a job but a hobby, Hiccup absolutely loves DND. This is factual. Argue with the wall.

A sky diving instructor.

Traditional artist who lives off commissions

Idk what job there is for this but traveling the world somehow

Just thought of it- pilot!

If you can think of any more please add them, I want to see how long this list can be. Or add other characters too!

Just finished S4 of RTTE for the first time and I only have a few things to say.

Number 1: I hope Viggo isn’t dead. While I’m okay if he is, I think his arc is about complete, maybe. Please don’t let him be dead.

Number 2: I LOVE the gang so much. Their humor and ridiculousness is so fun. The way they all care for each other is the SWEETEST. Their support and celebration of Hiccup and Astrid being together was my favorite thing.

This season was my favorite so far. Every character went through it. Hiccup being kidnapped and almost drowning. Astrid being blinded. Ruffnut being interrogated. Everything fit together perfectly. SUPER EXCITED FOR NEXT SEASON :P

Do you think the reason Hiccup is so good at listening and understanding others is because he never got that growing up.

Like Stoick and Valka put their expectations and views on him and never really listened to who he was both as a kid and an adult.

Maybe that’s why he has such an easy acceptance of the twins chaos, of Snotlout need to be important, Fishlegs anxiety, and Astrid’s anger issues and he works through it with them.

Because no one did that for him.

I love dadcup and Zephyr they are my pookies, my sweetie pies.

No one talks about how Snotlout is JUST as sassy and sarcastic as Hiccup. Especially in RTTE.

Genuinely, how is RTTE a kids show. If I took plot points or certain lines out of context you would assume it’s a pg13 or R rated show.

“Leave now and your men won’t have to find out what burning flesh smells like” out of context is INSANEEEE.

The character lines this man could have had if it wasn’t a kids show.

Something I would like to point out while rewatching HTTYD2 that I think is very interesting and also not at all talked about is this.

HTTYD2 brings lots and I mean LOTS of parallels whether they are visual or spoken but the one I hear spoken about the most is between Hiccup and Valka and them not killing a dragon. Even the movie tries to make this seem like a parallel. They bring it up even!

“Ehh it runs in the family.” Hiccup says after the flashback scene.

But something I noticed is that it is not a parallel. Mainly because of a few key things. It’s more almost perpendicular. They head in the same direction and they have the same realization, then go in complete opposite directions.

Valka runs away. A key part of her character I’ve noticed while I’ve been writing my analysis of her is that she oozes of cowardice and willful ignorance. Now that doesn’t mean she’s a bad person, it simply means that she ran away and chose to stay away. But that’s not the main reason I brought this up.

Remember the flashback where they draw attention to how similar Hiccup and Valka are? They talk about it in a very specific way.

They bring attention to two points. Both of them looked into a dragons eye and saw themself. Then they both didn’t kill a dragon. They show this as some kind of parallel. Maybe to show that Hiccup has someone who understands him, maybe to add a bit of layering to the first movie and how he’s just like her.

But it’s not a parallel.

What’s the difference in this scene?

One dragon is tied up.

One isn’t.

It’s a matter of choice.

“You and your father nearly died that night. All because I couldn’t kill a dragon.” Quote Valka.

“300 years and I’m the first Viking who wouldn’t kill a dragon.” Quote Hiccup.

Hiccups statement STILL rings true. Valka had no choice in if she wanted to kill Cloudjumper or not. That’s why I brought up Valka’s cowardice. Valka was in a trapped house with an injured newborn and an unbound dragon 5x her size. She was in the middle of a raid with people all around. Stoick was around the corner. She simply couldn’t kill the dragon. It wasn’t a matter of would or wouldn’t.

Hiccup on the other hand was alone in a forest with a tied up dragon. He made the decision to not kill Toothless. He wouldn’t. Because he absolutely could have killed Toothless.

“I was a coward. I was weak. I wouldn’t kill a dragon.”

“You said wouldn’t that time.”

This scene (in my own opinion) is meant to show that Hiccup was never the hiccup. He was never a coward. He wasn’t weak. It’s meant to be ironic.

Hiccup let go one of the most dangerous dragons in the world and it was brave. He went against his culture, his tribe because he thought it was the right thing to do.

That’s where Valka and Hiccups story become perpendicular. Hiccup was brave. Valka was a coward.

Hiccup chose not to run away. He chose to change their minds. He thought their minds could change.

Valka ran away. She didn’t listen and didn’t think change was possible. She held this belief until Hiccup comes along.

Valka’s path is where she believes that dragons are more than they seem. Then, “This wasn’t a viscous beast, but an intelligent gentle creature whose soul, reflected my own.” She has the revelation. Then she runs away and stays away. Now she had her own reasons and I am very much phrasing this in a biased way but it’s meant to show a point. She stays away and doesn’t change much. Because she couldn’t kill a dragon.

Hiccups path is where he does not see much to dragons. He wants to kill one to be accepted into the village. He shoots down Toothless and- “Everything we know about you guys, is wrong.” Or- “I looked at him and saw myself.” Hiccup and Valka’s paths cross here. But Hiccup doesn’t run away and he changes Berk’s mind. Because he wouldn’t kill a dragon.

Anyways I think that’s about it for that topic and I think it should be discussed more! Because if you really think about it, there are almost no parallels in Valka and Hiccup. And if there are, it isn’t well executed enough that it leaves a strong impact. I definitely will talk about this more but it’s late and I crave sleep.

Hiccup and Dagur is a very good ship but like. it's almost TOO easy to read Dagur's behavior as a big crush. my controversial opinion is that their dynamic is 100x funnier if it's read as completely platonic. like, not even familial-but-we're-calling-it-platonic. literally just Very Normal Friends

Doesn’t matter who you ship Hiccup with- every person and fanfiction I’ve seen talk about this says the same thing.

Hiccup proposes to people in the most cheesy, weirdly romantic, spontaneous way.

He’s such a dork I love him.

Astrid’s importance in Hiccup’s life is often questioned, I've seen posts on how she has schemingly separated the inseparable HiccTooth and how toxic she is towards Hiccup among others. What people fail to realise that her squirm towards the idea of marriage did not arise from her jealousy towards Toothless, but Hiccup’s over reliance on him which resulted in her betrothed’s inability to measure his own worth and capabilities beyond the dragon. She had not been toxic to Hiccup ever since they entered into a relationship and has been his biggest support system ever since. She has been the first one to believe in him and ever since has been his right hand throughout. The compassionate lady who beneath her tough exterior is anything but is the one to hold onto Hiccup throughout the worst of phases in his life. The girl who trained from her childhood to be an incredible Dragon Slayer to bring back the lost glory of her clan went onto become one of the finest Dragon Riders in the history, beside her husband: to give the fearsome beasts a chance to prove themselves after being convinced by Hiccup. Astrid Hofferson Haddock is incredibly talented: acing anything she puts her mind to, be it dragon slaying or training and even drawing! She bloomed like a lotus in his love, and continued to spread the love but didn't lose her sight or practicality in love. She divided his schedule into manageable little stacks for him to analyse and review, fought alongside him to protect their island and the dragons. She had been nothing but a source of strength, hope and unbridled joy to her then betrothed, now husband. As a mother she is gentle yet firm, proud yet concerned, and just always available for her kids. Astrid is the love of Hiccup’s life, his wife and the mother of his children. The strong Valkyrie deserves nothing but respect for being a fabulous friend, a wonderful wife and a marvelous mother and an awe inspiringly skilled Shield Maiden, General and now the Chieftess of New Berk.

one my absolutely favorite things about Hiccup is that he’s so supportive of his friends, like even when the twins or Snotlout didn’t mean to give a good suggestion, he’s always praising them for it. He’s always the first/or only one to worry when one of them goes missing. He understands Snotlout inferiority complex, he finds ways in battle to let the twins be destructive in healthy ways, he nerds out with Fishlegs, always makes sure Heather know she’s welcome, is fully prepared to just be friends with Astrid if that’s what she wants, he just loves his friends so goddamn much and it makes so happy.

As much as I love pondering what the httyd cast modern jobs are and what they do or study in college, we are ignoring the REAL question.

Who falls for the classic Nigerian Prince money scam?

Hiccup: Almost does fall for it. He’s smart but way too trusting of people. He would be suspicious but go along until he finds out it’s a scam either from Astrid or the Twins.

Astrid: Would see right through it. End up sending threatening messages back.

Snotlout: Would fall for it. Before he’s scammed, he brags about becoming rich. Afterward, he ignores everyone for 2 weeks.

Fishlegs: Would not fall for it. Politely declines.

Ruffnut + Tuffnut: Would end up convincing the scammer to actually give them the money. Succeeds.

Stoick: Ignores the email.

Gobber: Would fall for it right until giving the credit card info then scold them over email.

Heather: Would personally track the scammer down. Or would ignore it. There’s no in between.

Dagur: Falls for it. He’s threatens the person into giving him the money back. Gets more than what he gave away.

Viggo: Creates an elaborate scheme that ends up with the scammer losing everything they own, including the money that they tried to scam out of him.

Ryker: Ignores the email.

Johann: The scammer.

I’m only on s3 of rtte so if these don’t sound canon, that’s because they probably aren’t.

I am fully convinced that Toothless in httyd 1 saw Hiccup as some sort of human hatchling with no parental smells on him because that would explain SO MUCH.

Or maybe I’ve just been reading too much fan-fiction.

This is just me analyzing Valka. Not even all the other stuff I could analyze.
