Non-verbalism + my younger cousins

Tbh Idk if I can count what happens as going non-verbal, but effectively it's something like that. Rn my little cousins (10, 8, and 4 (10 is chill)) are over at my place, and they're incredibly loud and energetic, not to mention that 8 keeps slapping my ass. I have to constantly chase them around the house and they keep going in my bedroom and stealing my stuff!!!

Anyway, I think I've gone nonverbal because of that. 'm not speaking, and 4 keeps yelling at me to just speak to her or why I'm not speaking. However the thing is, if I *desperately* need to I could whisper a few words...which i did and she's left me alone now. But it's so awkward because at times when i'm like this I often have needs but can't vocalise them. It's at the worst of times too. (E.g I was on the bus once coming back from school with a friend (Who understands all this), and J (Half-friend) was asking me why I was so quiet and luckily he stepped in from what I remember. (Thnx F)

But yeah....

Also I should've stated this earlier but I have diagnosed ADHD and I think I might have autism but i'm undiagnosed.

Edit: Put on Ponyo for them and they're sitting on my back but it's ok because I'm a body and chest pressure enjoyer

it felt like was the only one learning asl for nonverbalism reasons and i always felt weird about it cus there was never really any information about using asl for mutism like i'm appropriating deaf language or something? but i just got so sick of typing things out to communicate and people getting annoyed with how long it takes. its embarrassing. i've found that a sentence that comes out garbled and incomprehensible or doesn't come out at all when i try to speak verbally comes out easy as shit in sign. i also don't need captions for asl movies and videos (i got audio processing issues) so i'm working on my receptive skill also. anyway if you haven't done it before, what's the sign for selective mutism?

I am definitely grateful to the deaf community for sign languages. I don't think there would be sign languages if they hadn't developed and fought for it. But I don't think its appropriation to learn it for nonverbalism. For me personally, I'm just excited there's another person in the world I could sign with! I think it sucks that others assume people would only wanna sign if they have to! I've been in a number of situations in which I'm signing with someone, they ask if I'm deaf or hearing, then immediately start speaking when I say hearing. ASL is a wonderfully expressive language that feels so much more natural to me than spoken language.

recently my diagnosed autistic friend, after learning i'm not diagnosed with anything, asked me to stop using the term non-verbal for when I physically can't speak. I said okay and he said I can just use overwhelmed but I don't feel like it fits my experience, and idk what to do. I was 'overwhelmed' for three hours a couple weeks ago despite being mostly fine, maybe a little bored or anxious. I dunno.
