Jimmy held Tom close to his chest, grinning gently at his son as the boy blinked up at him in wonder. He never would have thought that his relationship with Joel would allow for such a blessing. A tiny fist wrapped around the bandana tied at his neck, causing Jimmy to laugh lightly.
“You like your Pa’s bandana, Tom?” He whispered, bouncing his son gently as the child grinned at the sound of his laughter and voice, the movement causing the infant to also begin to giggle.
An excited figure bounced into the room, grinning from ear to ear as he approached Jimmy’s hip, Hermes coming to a pause only to look directly up at Jimmy, “Mr. Sheriff! Daddy said I had to be quiet, but that I had a new baby brother!”
“You do, Hermes. Do you want to meet him?”
Hermes’ eyes lit up in excitement, “Can I?”
“Of course,” Jimmy confirmed, smiling at the child before casting a glance at Joel who was leaning against the door now, smiling as he watched the three interact. Jimmy kneeled down so that he was closer to Hermes’ height, tilting the infant in his arms so the boy could see him, “This is your brother Tom.”
“Mr. Sheriff, I love him. He’s so little though! Do you have to hold him all the time?”
“For now, we do. Why don’t you sit down, that way you can hold him safely too.”
“I can? How do you hold a baby?”
“I’ll teach you, Hermes, don’t worry.”
Hermes hesitated, “What if I drop him?”
“We can hold him together if you’re worried,” Jimmy offered. “You can sit on my lap and we’ll both hold him.”
“That! Please,” Hermes nodded, sliding onto Jimmy’s lap with wide eyes that were mirrored in the face he was staring at. Both children seemed entirely mesmerized by the other.
Tom reached out, his tiny fingers finding Hermes’ and wrapping around them.
Hermes gasped, having fallen in love with their younger brother all over again, “I’m your big brother, Hermes. I’m going to protect you forever, Tom. I promise.”
Boil, while the 212 is relaxing: Sir, if you don't mind me asking, how are you so good at all this war stuff? I thought the Jedi were peacekeepers?
Obi Wan: Oh, I suppose no one ever told you about Melida/Daan, then. Well, when I was younger....
*Thirty traumatizing minutes later
Obi Wan: And that's how I was part of a rebellion and sold into slavery at 13!
All the troopers, in horrified silence:
Wooley, raising his hand: Sir?
Obi Wan: Yes, Wooley?
Wooley, teary eyed: Permission to hug?
Obi Wan, concerned: Of course, are you alrigh-
Obi Wan, buried under several hundred troopers: Little help
Cody: Sorry sir, you're staying here for forever.
Boil: And then a little longer

Whoever came up with this trope honestly deserves an award... every single one of them manages to do something different, and most of them are hilarious!
This is the worst timeline by Hittinmiss (6.6k)
this fic is absolutely hysterical from start to finish, with cameos from almost all of the Avengers and a (let's be honest) realistic number of vine references.

i think the tag "Flash has no sense of self preservation" sums this entire fic up pretty well!
Definitely Worth It by jennylarner (16k)
Peter is not having a good day in this, but it is so worth it, exactly as the title says!
from your perspective, the world is flat by blueh (18k)
this fic has a lot more peril than most of them do, and i would say it's probably it's the different to the rest of the fics... but it is written amazingly, and i just love all of the characters in this!
so...that's all of them. if you have any fic suggestions or you want me to make a specific fic rec list, feel free to ask! and, as always, thank you to all the wonderful authors for writing and sharing all of these :D
When and why did the word attachment become a congruent synonym for love within the Star Wars fandom??
Sometimes I feel like reading Star Wars one shots or fics and it’s often the same statements that make me cringe and close the tab. Like „love isn’t allowed blah blah blah“, „the order is flawed because I cannot love another openly“, „how can the Jedi deem love wrong, it’s only natural“, etc.
Like what?
Even the movies make the distinction between love and attachment. Anakin tells Padmé for example that the Jedi do in fact love.
It’s just that the order comes first because as a willing member of said order that’s your duty. A partner would always come second. „Don‘t lose a hundred just to save one.“
And I mean even in real life there’s a clear difference between the two words: love and attachment. Most people wouldn't tell someone they have feelings for, „I am attached to you“ rather than „I love you“. And I feel like just when you read those two phrases, they give off a completely different vibe. „I am attached to you“ seems more selfish, sort of cold and temporary, it implies a fear of loss somehow, whereas love sounds purer and honest and selfless and everlasting. (But maybe that’s also just me.)
And also how come when people say the Jedi or their Order was flawed, the only flaw they end up mentioning is the attachment rule. And that’s also only a flaw for them because they confuse attachment with love…
But like, you’re telling me an entire culture and people is flawed because they don’t put selfish borderline toxic romance on a pedestal, but rather see the flaw within exactly that type of „love“. And that to you is wrong because why?
Oh and of course how could I forget? The only other flaw that keeps getting mentioned is that they „didn’t do enough“ and they „let“ Anakin fall to the Dark Side and „allowed“ the Empire to rise. Yeah, let’s take all autonomy away from the edgy handsome villain and blame everybody else, because he baby.
Jedi have to go above and beyond to please the audience and are blamed and taken apart for every little mistake or not even mistake, just for „not doing enough“. But when is it actually enough? It seems to me never. What good they actually did gets ignored. On the other hand villains get to do the worst of the worst but get babied and praised for the smallest of kind acts. It’s just complete hypocrisy.
And to top it all of, a lot of the times the good guys or in this case Jedi are deemed as arrogant without really showing any sort of arrogance. What’s up with that? Why are they arrogant to you? Because they point out wrong from right, try to strive to do good over and over again as best as they can? I feel like people just really like doing what they want and desire with no regard to right or wrong and do not wish to be called out for it or face any sort of consequence. And when there’s somebody who does call out wrongdoings, they deem them as arrogant and hypocrites. And so the Jedi become the „actual bad guys“ and the bad guys become the heroes, who „are actually in the right“.

reblog if you believe fanfics are as valid as books that were published and sold by authors who write as their main careers. I'm trying to prove a point
So in the baby-wan AU (hilariously, it is tagged that, but that post has gotten too big to keep reblogging lmao) where Obi-Wan travels back to a 7 year old body with all the PTSD, the first time Jaster (his new Mando’buir) mentions that a little Mando’Jetii should have armor, Obi-Wan mentions that he wants bracers (they’ll have to be plated so he can flex his wrists) made of cortosis metal, and Fay agrees very sagely, informing the very confused Mandalorians that Jedi can’t wear much (if any) beskar because it messes with their connection to the force, but cotorsis is a metal that deactivates lightsabers on contact.
Jaster, who now knows that his newest son cannot use beskar and will never train with a lightsaber, decides then and there to hunt down enough cortosis for bracers and greaves and a small midsection wrap (meaning not quite plates, so much as criss crossing wraps of metal that’ll curve around his midsection with the hope that the cortosis would stop a saber and deactivate it in time not to be cut) and maybe a beskad too, so he can still have a weapon himself after a saber has been deactivated.
This unfortunately means that he will not be sparring against other Jedi unless they trade their sabers for a beskad, but a few of his friends will happily comply with that to get him some solid practice.
They also have a small flashback when Jaster asks why Obi doesn’t want a helmet and will refuse one if offered. Mainly, a flashback where he stutteringly tries to explain the mask Ventress put on him and what it did and why it was scary and that he was like that for over a month while people thought he was dead and she hurt his friend and- yeah. Jaster gets his first taste of Jedi PTSD and some of the most fucked up shit you can do to a living creature both in one go. He is horrified and now Obi-Wan is being plied with kisses and snacks by many verd’e.
Jango immediately teaches his baby brother his favorite bad words. He’s only 14 so he knows ALL the best words that’ll have Jaster yelling at them, but Jango is an adult now so Jaster isn’t as stern when telling him not to say them, which takes ALL the fun outta it, so he has to make sure the baby knows to tell Jaster all the cool new words he’s learned. It’s important.
While they’re on Mandalore, Obi-Wan gets fitted for his first armor (which are made of leather for extra protection before he’s old enough for metals) and Fay gently rebuffs the need for weaponry (the nice female Mandalorians fawn over her thinking she’s young till they realize she’s over 1200 at least and met Tarre a few times lmao, Fay is living for pretty woman fawning over her tho) but eventually accepts a baton of cortosis with the understanding that force suppressants exist and if she was suppressed, she still wants a way to turn off a saber. They’re a little shocked when she tells them she can turn off someone’s saber mid-battle with just the force, which shocks them because they thought Jedi had ways to keep that from happening. They do, she’s just stronger than that.
Fay keeps giggling when she tells the council they finally have another Mandalorian Jedi in the order again. They sigh really loud at that and tell her she better figure out their political situation so they can help get rid of the terrorists they said they had a group of now, so they can make the planet safer for Obi-Wan and any other kiddos that end up there. This, of course, is how Agricorps end up involved as they should, lmao.
