Why Didn't My Spell Work?

Why Didn't My Spell Work?

Nobody has a 100% success rate because magic isn't an exact science. Here are some reasons things may not go according to plan.

You didn't pinpoint the focus enough. Let's say you do a spell for success. Okay... in what area of your life? Success by what definition? What's the time frame? Know what you want and be specific about your desired outcome.

There are open loopholes. The Universe often gives us exactly what we ask for and assumes nothing. If we ask for money before rent is due, finding just a penny on the ground would technically fulfill that wish. Leave nothing to be assumed.

The method didn't make sense. If you want to banish someone from your life, you wouldn't put their name in a jar and keep it in your house, because you'd literally be keeping them close to you. Your method should reflect your focus.

The energy wasn't in it. Magic work demands our full attention. If we're doing it half-heartedly, multitasking, or mentally distancing ourselves from our work we're not bringing our best game. It's okay to be worried or skeptical. But shelf it until you're done with your work.

The ingredients are conflicting. Just like our spell methods, our tools/materials should also line up. Ingredients can also conflict with each other, like if you have things to represent calm/relaxation and energy/aggression in the same pile. It could muddy the direction. Make sure everything syncs with everything else.

It just wasn't in the cards. Sometimes there are just bigger forces than us at work. Maybe we nailed the job interview but someone else was just more qualified. Magic work is our bid with the Universe to tilt things in our favor, and sometimes we just don't offer enough.

Witchcraft Exercise - Spring Cleaning

Witchcraft Exercise - Spring Cleaning

There’s a marked tradition of cleaning and airing out the house in the springtime when the weather warms. As you’re dusting and tidying and getting rid of winter stagnation, take some time to do the same with your craft.

Clean and organize your workspace. If you have an altar space or a shelf where you keep bottles and jars and the like, remove everything from the surface and give it a good dusting. Take the opportunity to rearrange things or swap out pieces if it suits you. If you have ritual tools that don’t often get cleaned, check them for signs or rust or wear and give them a bit of love. Repair things that need fixing, if you can. If you have an iron cauldron that you use for fire magic, get a wire brush or some steel wool and gently remove any burnt residue left inside.

Sort through your supplies. If you have lots of candles and crystals and small items laying about, consider getting some small totes or craft organizers to keep things tidy. Divided storage boxes for beads or scrapbooking supplies are great for small items, and shoebox-sized caddies are perfect for taper, chime, and votive candles. Organizing things will make your space easier to navigate and also gives you a proper idea of what you have on hand. Which might help you resist impulse purchases the next time you’re out shopping for witchcraft supplies. While you’re tidying, be sure to discard any rubbish, candle stubs, wax blobs, herb scraps, bits of string, incense bases, and so forth that might be cluttering up the place.

Discard things that are too old or worn to be useful. Dried plants and seasonings can usually be kept for 1-3 years if they remain in sealed containers. If they have no scent anymore or smell musty or mildewy, discard them and sanitize the container. If you’re using supermarket spices, you can use the expiration date on the container as a guide. Powdered material will likely last longer than whole herbs or cut-and-sifted material. One helpful tip is to put a purchase date on packets or bags of herbs when you buy them, or to put a little date sticker on your jars of herbs when you refill them. (Anyone who’s worked in food service will probably be familiar with the concept of container dating or day-dotting.)

If you make oils or tinctures or suchlike in your practice, check on these as well. Make sure nothing has gone off or lost its’ potency. Day-dotting your potion containers will help with this as well. A simple sticker with the name of the brew and the date it was bottled will help you keep track of your supplies and know when something needs to be tossed and replaced. (You can also print labels with the ingredients and purpose of the brew if you’re feeling super organized.)

Reorganize your books and resources. Review what's there and see if there are any materials that need to be weeded out, donated, or discarded. Remember that as you grow and progress, some things will become obsolete or may show themselves to be unhelpful or inaccurate. It's okay to remove things from your resource library that no longer serve you if you want to make some space on the shelves.

You can also cleanse your workspace and/or components while you’re tidying if you wish. It doesn’t have to be a full clean-slate-everything-must-go cleansing, but it can be helpful to just clear out stagnation or bring in some freshness and vitality.

Happy Witching! 🧼

Skacaga ona, The Personal Guides and Guardians of an Individuals Essence:

Skacaga ona are guides and guardians for an individual’s life. Skacaga ona are emanations of ourselves split off at different moments which embody various aspects of our essence. We can interact with these pieces of ourselves for guidance and protection. Because they are formed from your essence, they may take on the shape and connection of past entities with which your kna has interacted before, but their forms will always be connected to their lessons and the essence of you they represent. These entities are usually related to animals or mythical creatures, and we’ll use that connection to portray their message or what they are connected to. These entities involuntarily exist in and from your mental and spiritual being and are part of you and separate from you. Because of this, they have great insight into your life and can be powerful conduits for you to interact with the world. Every individual has at least one Skacaga though they may not have made their presence known.

They are created at different parts of your life, and they will either be with you the entire time or only temporarily. Lifetime skacaga ona are skacaga ona that will stick with you throughout your whole life or will be created at one point, and we’ll continue until death. Temporary Skacaga ona are guides that will show up from time to time in your life and will only stick with you for a short time.

Skacaga ona will usually come into your life to teach you a lesson and leave once the task is learned. They will come to you in times of great need, dire situations, or when you must learn a life lesson and will last with you tell that time is complete. A lot of the time, they may give you a message in meditation or your dreams. They will try to teach you everything they think you need to know and try to do it in the best manner for you when you are ready to learn it. These guides will help you problem solve and help you work through certain situations to better yourself. They are a lot like good friends that you can always count on for assistance and will help you achieve a particular desire or outcome. The practitioner will usually call on these guides to ask for their help in certain situations, but the guide can always help without being asked. These guides can be called upon when you need healing and may even be short-term guides that pop in to heal you when you are injured. Often, these guides also take the form of animals to heal you using the kna of that animal. They may also help you heal others if you ask them to and can be powerful allies in channeling healing kna. These guides will usually defend you from threats and keep you out of harm’s way. This entity will also protect you when you open yourself up to others’ kna and keep away other entities you do not want to interact with. They will also cover the connection of entities you’re communicating with during spiritual communication. These guides may also tell you how to defend yourself and will keep watch over you. Skacaga ona inspires and motivates practitioners to create and get you to make and create new things. They will try to be your muse, can inspire arts, and can help clear artist block.

Skacaga ona of the shadows:

Skacaga ona of the shadows are guides that challenge you to face the hidden parts of yourself that you don’t usually deal with. This usually makes you deal with fears, insecurities, and remote parts of your sub-conscience, That you may have locked away. These guides may also take forms that you fear or are uncomfortable around to show that they are the shadow guide. They will do all of this to allow you to better yourself and are a manifestation of your shadow side.

Ways of communicating with your Skacaga ona:

There are many ways to communicate with your guides to build bonds and gain insight from them. Individuals and their Skacaga ona can have different preferences for how they would like to communicate. Because of this finding, the right communication method will allow you to communicate more effectively. There are three primary ways to communicate with Skacaga ona: divination, Vaskaknaova, and dreams. You can get their attention by asking aloud for them to appear to you before you dream, divination, or Vaskaknaova. Doing this will call them to appear.

How to celebrate the Winter Solstice as a practitioner of Celtic (Irish) Paganism and witchcraft (the irish may not have been celts but our ancient customs are often described as Celtic)

•Collect Holly and make a clay wren to celebrate the defeat of Winter: Irish traditions often have different guardians to symbolise the Summer and Winter seasons. You may be familiar with Caileach and Bríd. But there are also other similar equivalents The mythical dark Holly King who rules the Winter , disguised as a wren, and his twin, the light Oak King who ruled the Summer, disguised as a robin. The Irish would kill a wren and decorate it with holly to represent the death of the Winter king. (This custom has been colonised by catholicism but the tradition remains)

Custom: You can now practice this ethically by making a wren out of biodegradable material and decorate it with wild holly.

•Wear a disguise: Similar to Samhain, in which the people wore masks to be concealed from evil spirits. During the day of the Wren the Irish would often wear masks and disguises. There are also plays that people used to preform around those times. Custom: Similar to halloween. There are plenty or ways to dress up. And theres no right way to do it. However here are some Irish people dressing up on Stephens Day.

•Celebrate the beginning of the sunny seasons: In Old Irish culture the new year began in October on Samhain. So rather than the new year, the solstice was most likely a way of predicting what type of year it would be for the crops. Custom: Do some divination, there is a lot of power in the shift from darkness into light. So its a good time to do tarot cards or divination. Though a lot of old irish divination was done using objects, weather and occurrences.

Collect some mistletoe: The old druids often collected mistletoe as it was known for bringing fertility to animals. Since a lot of this season has to do with the sunny weather and production of crops and food for the year ahead. Mistletoe is ideal for bringing fortune and blessings for the sunny seasons of the year. Custom: Try and find some mistletoe in the tree and cut it down with a golden knife and collect it in a white sheet.

DO NOT EAT MISTLETOE IT IS POISONOUS

Visit a well: there a lot of evidence to suggest that visiting magical wells was a pre-colonial tradition in Ireland. That was later claimed by the catholic church. There are still many beautiful wells that worshippers visit and put rags on the nearby trees. Custom: Find a local “holy” well with an ancient pagan origin and bring some organic rags to decorate a nearby tree.
