God of War: Echoes of Suffering

(Chains of Olympus Rewrite)

God Of War: Echoes Of Suffering

5 years into his service to the gods, Persians attack Greece and Kratos defends his homeland against the Invasion under the charge of Athena. After driving the Invaders back, Kratos receives a vision from Athena attempting to warn him, but it is quickly cut off as the sun disappears. Now Kratos has to fight off a horde of living nightmares manifesting from an endless black fog.

The Ghost of Sparta was nearly enveloped by the black fog, until a small figure drove them away with a blast of light. The small figure in question looks almost exactly like Kratos’ deceased daughter, Calliope. Kratos tries to reach out to her in melancholic desperation, but she runs away, Kratos giving chase after his shock fades.

Kratos chases his “daughter” throughout the city until they reach a massive structure that looks as if it almost crashed into the ground. Inside the temple, Kratos is haunted by the melody of his daughter’s flute echoing through the halls. He was almost driven to the brink of madness until A woman drenched in red and orange light appeared before him, she called herself Eos - Bringer of the Dawn.

She informs Kratos that her brother Helios has been taken by Phobetor - The New master of Dreams, and all the Olympians have been lulled into a never-ending sleep. Few gods are awake to rule, so the world has been plunged into chaos.

Eos requests that Kratos use the Primordial Fire within the temple to release the Fire Drakons in exchange for a favor.

Once the Fire Drakons began to burn once more the temple glowed with blinding light, Kratos realizes he’s on the sun and tried to rein in the burning beasts, but his hands burned the second he touched the reins.

Just then Eos appears in front of Kratos and pulls reins of the Fire Drakons pulling the Sun Chariot to the sky driving back the horde of nightmares that enveloped the cities. Once they reached the heavens Eos informed Kratos that her brother was taken to the Underworld and he would need to get there in order to save him. Kratos argued why she could not have gone there herself, replying that as a goddess of light she had no power in the sunless realm. Kratos reluctantly agrees to the request in hopes that Eos would convince the other gods to free him from his suffering.

Eos contacts Hermes, one of the few gods still awake, and transports Kratos to the Underworld where he arrives on the shores of the River Acheron where he meets a soul which at first glance reminds him of an old friend from his Spartan days.

After short greetings the soul offers to be Kratos' guide to Phobetor, just then a blaring sound is heard and all souls on the shore gather to a dock. In the distance a gigantic boat appeared with a titanic figure at the helm; the guide refers to the figure as Charon, The Ferryman. Just before the boat was about to dock the guide cast a spell on Kratos to conceal his identity as a living, but once the shade cast the spell Kratos felt himself getting weak. Once they got onto the ferry they were accompanied by dozens, possibly hundreds of other souls each with blank or unmoving expressions.

The journey lasted for what seemed like days and during the trek Kratos fell into a slumber, in his dreams he saw his wife and child slaughtered by his own hand. It wasn't only them, his mother and his brother were among the bodies that were felled by his blades. As he breathes erratically, he can hear a voice taunting him from the dream's darkness, calling him a brute, a savage, a monster.

Just as the boat docks Kratos wakes up, he looks around and realizes that he and the guide are the only ones left on the vessel. The Guide and Kratos looked out past the dock and the only thing that could be made out was sand, nothing but swirling sand. The guide tells Kratos that this is Desert of Dreams; the section of the underworld where Phobetor has taken over. As the two arrive they are assaulted by a plethora of lesser Oneiroi and living nightmares which they must rip through to make it to the Ebon Citadel, Phobetor’s greatest fortress.

After barely surviving, they encounter an old man, sticking out amongst the almost infinite gold with wings of gray sand. He told the two traveler’s that Phobetor cannot be killed so they need something to contain him. Just then the elder began to dissolve into the sand but before he completely disappeared he left them with a small piece of advice, that they must confront the darkness in order to wake up.

Once the old man left a glowing amulet took his place, Kratos grabbed the jewel and the two continued on. After fighting through even more nightmares they reached the top of the citadel.

Once the two got to the top and opened the doors, they witnessed Phobetor: an amalgamation of screaming black faces forming a vaguely human shape, exactly wht a god of nightmares would look like. There, he was siphoning the energy of a tortured Helios.

The nightmare god had his back turned to them but the second Kratos and The Guide entered the room he lunged at them both with terrifying speed. Kratos used his blades to slice the spectator but it was pointless the creature mended every attack. It was then that Kratos realized that the amulet could be used to harm the god. As the spartan brought the nightmare to his knees, he used the amulet to imprison the horrible spector. After it was done, the Guide that had followed Kratos for most of his journey; began to laugh in an ominous way, calling Kratos the Great Tool of Sparta as the drkness left from Phobetor entered the soul's body. Kratos was then transported to a field surrounding by glowing golden sand, there he heard the song, the same one that had been haunting him, only now it was sounded more comforting.

Because of Phobetor's great acquisition of power, the Desert of Dreams had exapanded into parts of Elysium, and so, Phantasos transported Kratos to a little Oasis, and there Kratos was shocked to see the one thing he though he never see again: his daughter, Calliope. The two of them embraced in a hug, and for a short while, the Ghost of Sparta felt joy. Unfortunately for Kratos, this Joy was short-lived, Calliope began to wince in pain, her being fading in and out of existence as the sand grows ever closer. Just then, a woman drenched in warm inviting light appears before Kratos and his daughter, this was Makaria, first born of Hades and Persephone, Goddess of Blessed and Peaceful death, and Queen of Elysium. The goddess had informed Kratos who his "Old Spartan friend" really was: Phantasos, Master of Illusions, and the mastermind behind this whole conundrum.

Makaria explained everthing. Wanting the power to control the waking world, Phantasos manipulated Phobetor into overthrowing their brother Morpheus and seizing control of the Desert of Dreams. By consuming the power of his brother had taken, Phantasos’ power grew exponentially, allo him to lull the gods into a deep almost unending slumber. Now Phantasos had the power of the dream realm, the sun itself, and the Ghost of Sparta in his grasp. Now he wishes to let the Desert of Dreams consume everything until he and only he was the supreme god.

Kratos had to come to an impossible crossroad of descisions: stay in this fleeting paradise with his daughter forever while another mad god tries to take over the world, or leave Calliope, again. He didn't have a choice, but in his mind, in that moment, he chose to leave her. It took all of his strength to pry his daughter away, as she cried and begged him not to, but it was the only way. With tears in both eyes, the mighty and powerful Ghost of Sparta hugged his daughter one last time. Makaria gently extended her hand and Calliope went with her to Elysium.

Kratos made his way back to the citadel, agrier now than ever before. As he entered the building Phantasos tried to keep up the illusion of Kratos' spartan friend but it was pointless, the ghost of sparta usd the amulet to reveal Phantasos' true form, a cloud of smoke with shifting masks for faces, he threw daggers at Kratos in retaliation.

The illusion master used Kratos’ worst nightmares as weapons, visions of his wife and child berated him until he was brought to the floor. Only through his sheer rage was Kratos able to break through the illusions, and attack Phantasos.

Their fight broke Phobetor’s castle and brought them to the Desert of Dreams and Phantasos hid within the flowing sands, mocking the Spartan. Only after the dream god dared to say that Calliope deserved to die was Kratos able to grab Phantasos and pummel him into the ground. As The Ghost of Sparta pulled out the amulet, Phantasos, using all of his power, cursed the man with eternal nightmares, and just before the Illusion Master was sucked into the amulet, he berated the now broken warrior, telling him that his suffering shall never end.

Once the two Oneiroi were imprisoned within the amulet, the gigantic sandstorm that enveloped the desert began to settle and the elder from earlier appeared in the center where the citadel once stood, and and the swirling sands of the storm coelesed around the man showing the form of a gray figure with enormous wings, revealing himself to be Morpheus, the God of Dreams, he thanked Kratos for relieving him of his brothers, but it fell on deaf ears. Kratos begged the god of dreams to free him of his curse, but unfortunately it was impossible. Morpheus explained that Phantasos had his own power combined with Phobetor's and the power of the sun, nothing can remove Kratos' curse not even Morpheus.

Keeping his own promise to the gods, Kratos returns Helios to the temple. But he is left with the knowledge that he we never be free, forever plagued with visions of his family.

Weak from the days of battle, Kratos falls unconscious from the sun chariot, but is suddenly stopped before striking the ground. He was placed on the cliffs he later would jump from in the original God of War. Three figures approach the unconscious warrior, two of them revealed to Helios and Athena. The Gray Goddess retrieves the amulet as the Sun Titan removes the spell placed on the Spartan. Both Gods contemplate helping Kratos further but a shadowy figure behind them interjects saying that the Ghost of Sparta must “Walk his path alone.” The three beings exit through a portal leaving Kratos lying on the shore near the Aegean Sea.

✮⋆˙— The Gods Favor You, Mortals!

✮⋆˙— the gods favor you, mortals!

the gods sure are hard to please, yet these particular mortals have their interest.

ft. eijiro k., hanta s., izuku m., katsuki b., kaminari d., tenya i.

➤ masterlist!

✮⋆˙— The Gods Favor You, Mortals!

Kratos smiles down on Eijiro and his persistence on being better, stronger. But not just for his own benefit, no. Eijiro seems to always push himself to the limit or even beyond just to improve himself so that he could help those around him. His ambition of being someone who can help others strikes Kratos’ interest. It’s not often the cruel and gruesome god sees someone using their strengths for something… beneficial. Sure, strength and murder? Expected, common even. But strength and kindness? Now that’s something he’s new to.

✮⋆˙— The Gods Favor You, Mortals!

Hanta’s bright smile shone through the clouds to reach Dionysus’ eyes. He loved seeing his wide grin, it’s as if this human was made in his image, for his eyes to see. A laughter so loud it echoed in his ears like a melody. Hanta’s tendency to always crack jokes and the way he yearns to hear people laugh tugs all the right strings in Dionysus’ heart. How could he not? The mortal is the epitome of fun and madness, laughter and sorrow, all combined into the perfect mixture of lawful chaos.

✮⋆˙— The Gods Favor You, Mortals!

Hera is tough, but her walls crept down for Izuku. The mortal devotes himself to the core. From the moment he cried himself to sleep for not having any specialties, till the moment he throws himself to danger in slivers of hope of saving his friend, she witnessed it all, and she smiled. Such a loyal boy, Athena had missed her chance in not favoring him simply because he looked weak. Look at him now! And even in all his glorious strength now, he still devotes himself to train, and better yet? That chin of his is always kept down, and his hands are always open for those in need.

✮⋆˙— The Gods Favor You, Mortals!

Katsuki always had Ares’ name written all upon him, yet Athena saw him first. Fists and scowls were what Katsuki was, yet the goddess saw past that—she saw his ambitions. Beyond that fury and his burning eyes, Katsuki’s goal was to become what Athena exactly searched for; a warrior. Someone who aims for nothing but the best, and she basks in that. He does not stop for anyone, doesn’t give a second thought to act. Although some will view him as reckless, Athena’s eyes see consistency and certainty, and that’s exactly what she needs.

✮⋆˙— The Gods Favor You, Mortals!

Thunder might be what Kaminari brings, but his name is not called upon Zeus’ lips. The boy strikes a chord in Hermes’ smile. The god swears he sees himself in the mortal, always jumping from place to place, with all topics to speak of on his tongue, as if he himself was the god of messenger. Hermes lives for chatterboxes—those people who exist and people shall smile, and not just that, he lives for someone who will always be there for everyone, in joyous celebrations or quiet mourns; and Kaminari ticks those boxes and more on his list.

✮⋆˙— The Gods Favor You, Mortals!

From the moment Themis laid her eyes on Tenya, she knew the boy pleads for justice in his very breath. His whole existence was built by himself upon order and equality, even his motivation to become a hero was to bring justice to his brother’s name. Justice does not caress the heart, yet it brings satisfaction to those who have lost. Themis’ lips curled into a smile as the mortal who so badly upheld his reputation of being someone who shall avoid violence at all cost. And yet, when grief sliced his tongue like a bastard, he did not scream for mercy—he called for justice, for her.

A female/fem presenting version of Kratos would still be bald or at least have a buzz cut. I am tired of people taking the cowardice approach whenever gender swapping characters. She would be a BUTCH LESBIAN and still have a BIOLOGICAL SON/DAUGHTER because she's a GODDESS and the LAWS OF NATURE DO NOT APPLY TO HER. Also implied with the lesbian part but I still feel like it needs to be said, she'll still have beautiful WIVES and be BAD at talking about her FEELINGS.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk. Also I am a lesbian irl so I am infact an expert and any criticisms must be worded gently or else I WILL cry.

Some concepts for my GOW x Doungeon Meshi au

Some Concepts For My GOW X Doungeon Meshi Au
Some Concepts For My GOW X Doungeon Meshi Au

"After the death of her son at the hands of Kratos, Freya decides to fuse Baldur’s dead body with what little life remains in his pet Red Dragon body.

The abomination flees away into the branches of the World Tree, possibly ending up anywhere in the Nine Realms. With Ragnarok just around the corner and the witch trying to protect his "son", it is up to Kratos and Atreus to hunt it down and stop it's rampage... that is if Freya doesn't stop them first."

I have a few GOW aus I never sat down and drew that I wouldn't mind exploring in the future, this one included. I'm calling it "Quimera Baldur au" but any better name suggestions are much appreciated as well as questions! If you have them....

Now this set up is very, very good as always.

The Princess of Poseidon is a good choice as some do said there should have been something for her in Valhalla and Old Kratos using her as doorstop.

Hera is curious, but makes sense he killed her just because she bad mouth Pandora when she was no danger to him.

Hercules, in Valhalla says he has no regret in killing him, saying Hercules wanted to be the God of War for all the wrong reasons, and not the right one. But I can also say Kratos at that point of time was willing to let Hercules live if he would step aside.

Hephaestus I can see from his downfall from grace, his savage beating from his father, failure to save Pandora, and Kratos respect towards Hephaestus doing what any father would do, protect their child.

Ares definitely needed to be in Valhalla and Kratos fighting Mars and the battle ending in a draw is pretty the same for Mars taking up both the legacy of Ares and Kratos as a God who fights to bring peace and who loves his people and followers. (Mars the Father and Mars the Avenger.)

I would also give a shot-out to Orkos, who was Kratos' last true friend for the longest time, being forced to kill him to free both from Ares.

It also would be great to see Atreus in his Anubis persona and the Guardian of the Dead.

Long time I know. I first offer a Merry Christmas for you and my family. But the Valhalla DLC for Ragnarök just dropped (Super wonderful), and I been thinking about how the old God of War in Egypt ideas would work with it. In Egyptian Mythology you have the 42 Negative Confessions and it 42 Judges of Maat. It's not about perfection, but to keep trying to outweight your bad deeds with good ones, to bring more balance than chaos to the world.

Alright so, in the God of War in Egypt AU, we've gotta trim the 42 down a bit, so we're grouping it into six groups of seven. Each group of seven represent a level to clear, with the final one at the end.

So the story is, after the final boss of the second game, Apophis, Osiris invites Kratos to the Underworld for "a great matter", and tells him someone wants to talk to him. Basically, Kratos has to traverse the 42 Confessors/Judges of Ma'at with Nephthys, facing one of his sins as a boss at the end of each level.

The 42, again, in groups of seven, you're not facing all of them at once, act as witnesses, watching him go through it, and talking to him at the end of it.

The bosses are all from the previous God of War games, particularly the ones Kratos feels kinda bad about.

Also, you get the Blade of Olympus at the beginning of the DLC, and it gains power with every boss you defeat.

First boss is Helios, good solid start to the story.

Second is the Princess of Posiedon, who sort of uses Posiedon's powers from GoW3. This ends with Kratos apologizing to her and her soul finding rest.

Third is Hera, who points out he could have shown her mercy but chose not to.

Fourth is Hercules, this one is lighter than the others, since Herc isn't really salty about losing, and Hercules passes on on good terms.

Fifth is Hephaestus, who is angry at the world more than Kratos himself.

The Sixth boss is Ares himself. the man who started it all. This is a knock down drag out fight... and it leads you into the REAL final boss.

See, once you've defeated Ares, you're led into the Heart Weighing Chamber where Anubis has begun his tenure as Guardian of the Dead, and under your son's gaze you fight the real Final Boss of the Ma'at DLC.

The final boss is Mars, the Roman God of War, the inheritor of both Kratos and Ares' legends. A more grim and noble God of War.

The fight ends in a draw, and Mars leaves, having put the ghosts of old to rest and returns to the fledgling Rome, to tak eup his post as the God of War.

I love the idea of Calliope and Atreus putting his half-sister back together. Never mind learning more about Old Kratos and what exactly happened in Greece (IE: Kratos being tricked by Ares to kill his wife and child.) leading to a big fallout between father and son.

My ideas for the set up and more.

Opening.

Any story in my mind could start out with the first war against Apophis, Ra and the other first Gods looking out from the Benben before fighting in the waters, allowing the player to post at max level. (Think if you could play as Zeus fighting the Titans.)

It switch to Old Kratos in an isolated oasis with his family. Maybe near Kharga Oasis, or the Bahariya Oasis.

Some of Gods and where their stand in the Civil War.

Geb and Nut: Titan like beings and the parents of Osiris, Isis, Set, and Nephthys. They have no role in the Civil War itself.

Thoth: A close ally to Isis and the closest thing Horus had to a father after Osiris' death.

Bastet: Horus agasint her sister.

Sekhmet: Set due to her loyalty to Ra.

Ptah: Horus due to the murder of Osiris.

Montu: One of Set's best generals.

Sobek: At the moment a wild card god.

Hathor: Neutral and trying to break a peace.

A lot of gods and goddess are still either still attempts neutrality, or roles takes them beyond the war itself. Like Neith and others. Some like Amun...no one seen him in like forever. Some early allies of Kratos could be Amenhotep, son of Hapu, Ash, Imhotep.

Aten in my mind could be say a rogue god who fell from grace after his power play failed with Akhenaten and his followers as a secondly theart.

You can still tied in some stuff from Norse Era, like a lot of gods talked about Tyr, and how they gave him back his arm after losing it to Garm. Or even mentioned of the 'Hebrews and their one god' and no one likes talking about it. Or Kratos being called 'a Sea Man' as a reference to the Sea People.

Osiris and Set: Even with how he came to power, Osiris was a great king and Pharaoh, who tired to make peace with his brother, but between Isis' manipulations, and Set's bitterness failed. When war did break out, Osiris attempted again to make peace. No one knows what just happened, but Set did cut his brother down accidental. This drove many into Horus and Isis camp.

I Was Thinking About Calliope

i was thinking about calliope

Of course not canon thing (i have not enough time for good research and im lazy)

I dont like some sweeet concepts of her, i wanna see her feral and insane cuz there's a lot of shit

I also love that the redemption in God of War isn't tied to forgiveness, like so many other redemption arcs in media (see Zuko's). Kratos at one point literally says he doesn't care if Freya forgives him. It's honestly refreshing to see a story that says "Whether or not other people forgive you doesn't matter, only that you are a better person," it really works with the catchphrase (I'm not sure if that's the right term) "We must be better."

I like that God of War never makes it a question of deserving. Did Kratos 'deserve' his redemption? Probably not but he chose to be better in spite of that and that's what matters, so did Thor right at the end. On the other hand did Baldur 'deserve' his death? Again, probably not but he made it clear his choice was made no matter how many chances he was offered.
