Magpies are my favourite bird (kingfishers and rosellas are close behind), hell I even named myself Corvid because of them but my favourite type of Magpie is the Australian Magpie which isn’t even a Corvid, but a butcherbird, so I believe they should be called fakepie’s from now on
Hello anon!! :D
Absolutely ecstatic to find another corvid and corvid related songbird appreciator!!
That's a super interesting subject you brought up though 👀
Turns out a simple way to tell if most songbirds are corvids (with the exception of Rooks and Grey Crows) is the presence of ‘nasal bristles’ on the bird’s upper bill (basically the small feathers on the top beak). Australian Magpies, Grackles, and Butcherbirds look quite similar to corvids, but do not have this plumage! (and you can tell their beak shape is a bit straighter and more triangular)
And you’re right, Australian Magpies (or fakepies hehe) are *super* closely related to butcherbirds (though they are still classified as a different genus)
And lastly, I leave you with a Bonus Fun Fact: all corvids and songbirds are thought to have originated in Australia! So ALL magpies are technically australian >:]
(Also while researching the subject I found this important video I think everyone should see: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EV4qZ_lgStw
Found in my mother's freezer... What do you think might be inside??
Birders: do you ever wonder if this happens?

Ornitographies by Xavi Bou
ORNITOGRAPHIES ARISES FROM THE AUTHOR’S CONCERN FOR CAPTURING THOSE UNNOTICED MOMENTS AND FROM THE INTEREST IN QUESTIONING THE LIMITS OF HUMAN PERCEPTION.
Xavi Bou focuses on birds, his great passion, in order to capture in a single time frame, the shapes they generate when flying, making visible the invisible.
Unlike other motion analyses which preceded it, Ornitographies moves away from the scientific approach of chronophotography used by photographers like Eadweard Muybridge and Etienne-Jules Marey.
The approach used by Xavi Bou to portray the scene is not invasive; moreover, it rejects the distant study, resulting in organic form images that stimulate the imagination.
TECHNOLOGY, SCIENCE, AND CREATIVITY COMBINE TO CREATE EVOCATIVE IMAGES WHICH SHOW THE SENSUALITY AND BEAUTY OF THE BIRD’S MOVEMENTS AND WHICH ARE, AT THE SAME TIME, CLUES FOR THOSE WISHING TO IDENTIFY OR RECOGNIZE THEM.
In Ornitographies, the skill envied by men, the long-lasting shared yearning of flying, is presented to us, extending our visual perception.
Art and science walk hand in hand to create images, which are no longer a single portrait of reality but become a witness of the instants that, for a moment, were past, present, and future all at once.
ORNITOGRAPHIES IS A BALANCE BETWEEN ART AND SCIENCE; A NATURE-BASED DISSEMINATION PROJECT AND A VISUAL POETRY EXERCISE BUT ABOVE ALL, AN INVITATION TO PERCEIVE THE WORLD WITH THE SAME CURIOUS AND INNOCENT LOOK OF THE CHILD WE ONCE WERE.

Common (European) starling (sturnus vulgaris)
It's very interesting to look at your wildlife pics. They mostly look like alt versions of what we have in Missouri. Except the starlings. We have those.... Are they horribly pesky at your birdfeeders too? Any tips to help keep them away and let the smaller birds eat?
Thanks, I enjoyed your photo's as well. Regarding the starlings, I can't help you there I'm sorry, the ones in my garden are fairly timid and are often bullied away by the sparrows. It's interesting to note the different behaviour.
Ever feel like you're being watched?
European Robin (erithacus rubecula)
European Starling (sturnus vulgaris) looking resplendent in the sun.
Common Buzzard (buteo buteo) quartering in the sun.
Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)
This is the picture of the starling I've been looking for to show you! (I've got c. 20,000 photos I need to sort out 😅) Look at those colours!! Also note how the throat feathers prick up when they sing.
European Robin (Erithacus rubecula)
I know, I post a lot of Robins. This fine individual was very friendly and came within about 2 feet of me repeatedly. Didn't even seem to mind the shutter noise.
European Nuthatch (sitta europaea)
Unfortunately, I was physically blocked from getting any closer for a better shot. I don't see many of these around.
Addendum: These photos look quite dark on my phone but look fine on my PC. I'll probably split the difference and re-upload.
Common Raven (corvus corax)
This one was found in an unexpected place (for me anyway) It was foraging where a river met the sea, and appeared to be turning over rocks, looking for molluscs or crabs perhaps.
A male Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) keeping an eye on the strange man with the camera.
The floofiest floof to ever floof!
European Robin (Erithacus rubecula)
Black headed gulls (chroicocephalus ridibundus) ride the sea breeze.
Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)
Seriously though, what right do starlings have to go around being so beautiful?
Blue tit (Cyanistes Caeruleus)
Grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) on Oak
Stonechat (saxicola rubicola)
Male Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs)
Red tailed bumblebee (Bombus Lapidarius)

Love watching these bug catchers
🚨 Lifer Alert 🚨: Tree Swallow
some pictures from todays rainy walk + a rather damp looking wood pigeon from when i got back :)
any ideas on what these mushrooms could be? some of the white ones reached almost to my knee and the brown ones were not much bigger than 10-15cm.
Wood Pigeon (Columba Palumbus) and European Robin (Erithacus Rubecula)
I have almost ZERO idea what to put here, so I guess we'll start with the basics. I'm just a chronically online dude who posts drawings from time to time or rambles about shit he's WAY too passionate about. Here are some of said things that I really like:
Detroit: Become Human (yes, still after all this time)
Cry of Fear (I'm not even sure if CoF community is on this platform lmao)
Paleontology
Team Fortress 2
The Isle (does anyone here even know this game?)
Warrio Cats (not whole series tho, just the first part)
Ornithology
Red Dead Redemption There are also other things I'm very familiar with but don't obsess with as much (dosen't mean they're any less fun tho!):
Hamilton Musical
Ride The Cyclone
Stray
Half-Life (specifically 1st and 2nd)
Afraid of Monsters
Hotline Miami Some other shit I'd like to mention:
I'm from Belarus (I live in Poland though, I speak Polish, Russian, English and recently started to learn Swedish)
I'm still a minor (15yo to be specific)(15th april if anyone's curious lol)
I can be cringe as FUCK, or so it feels at least :')
I may or may not have some issues, specifically I suspect if I have ADHD and maybe some sort of depressive disorder(?), but I have no way to check it yet (reminder to NOT self-diagnose!!! I am just telling what I think is possible, not stating facts)
I love cats :D
Sometimes I draw gore, nothing too frightening though LMAO —————————————————————— OOOKAY, since we're seemingly done with the yapping, come look at some of my older art!! :]
