regulus black headcanons because i'm brainrotting about him quite a bit recently

can't sleep on anything besides hard mattresses and silk pillows. he needs the pillows to be soft and the mattress to contrast

a picky eater, but likes broccoli, asparagus, and brussel sprouts

prefers salty things to sweet things, but his favorites are sour things

only wears two colors: silver and green (he also wears white and black, but those aren't colors)

he has curly hair, but loose curls, not the tight ones

can never fall asleep before two am and never needs a lot of sleep to function properly. however, he needs his black, sugarless morning coffee

out of everyone he knows, he's the only one who wears his uniform properly

he's the one that ties barty's tie because he doesn't know how to do it; his father hadn't taught him. back in their earlier years, he did it when barty left his dorm, but after he came out, they just did it in their dorm

can be downright nasty / rude to the people he hates / dislikes. he's not physically aggressive, but he has a tongue as sharp as a blade

is awkward with affection, especially hugs, but appreciates them nonetheless. when someone hugs him, he just pats their back and he's usually the one who breaks apart the hug

makes a lot of dirty jokes with his friends (that's what came out of his friendship with evan)

while his brother's eyes are mercury gray, his are silver, beautiful, cold and warm at the same time

his favorite subjects are care of magical creatures and potions

hates gold, but loves silver. he always wears the family heirloom, a big silver ring with a chunky black stone that had been theirs, then had been stolen, and then came back into the family

has an albino owl named neige, who is one of his best friends

he doesn't smoke often, but when he does, he chainsmokes about 5 cigarettes

he's not a very talkative person, not even with his closest friends, so that makes him appear closed off, moody and generally unpleasant. he doesn't mind, though, because he enjoys spending his time alone a lot

regulus black is running like water. he's volatile, ever-changing, slipping through one's fingers so easily and into the other's, molding to their liking, so he can get what he wants, when he wants.

regulus black is the calm before the storm and the distant rumble of the clouds. he's the quietness before the burst, before the explosion. he's observing, not talking; he analyzes, and he knows. he knows everything, to the smallest details, of what he wants to know, of what he needs to know to get his way. he knows how to be nice, because he's never as nice as he appears to be, he's not as nice as his facade, and he knows his way around words.

his temper never flares up. he's taking his time to attack, unlike his brother, who bursts into anger and, much like a fire, destroys everything around him. regulus is like a snake; he takes in, gives in, and when the time comes, he coils himself around his victim, and, even then, he's patient, and he uses his words, sharp like blades, sharp like venomous teeth. he waits for them to give in, and that's when he does it, that's when he ends them. little by little.

he's not his parents' child. he used to be, though, but he's still bound to them. he's not like sirius, who ran away and never looked back. he could never do that, because he's their heir, chained to that house. the distancing is gradual, and it starts small. nights they don't spend with each other anymore, nights in his room, and not with them, in the dining room, laughing and whispering. he has his own secrets to whisper to the night, and, sometimes, he looks at the night sky and whispers to sirius. sirius would understand him; he always would.

sometimes, he allows himself to miss sirius. only sometimes, though. regulus doesn't blame sirius for leaving and, if he hadn't been a coward, he would have left too. he would have taken sirius' hand and gone for shelter, for a family, for love, that had never been something that the black family did. they needed an heir, though. and that was who regulus black was going to be.

he takes him time to miss, to grieve, to mourn. he used to drown in his feelings, too much to feel, too many emotions, until they numbed him. he used to feel everything so deeply when he had been little, until he felt nothing anymore. until he went to hogwarts, and then, little by little, he felt again, with every stroll out on the ground with pandora, with every joke with pandora, with every time he bickered with barty, with every night he had spent smoking with dorcas. the little things. he never would feel the same way he had once felt, but it was enough. it was enough, the love for them, and he'd do anything they'd ask of them, loyal until the end to the ones he loved.

he looked to the past sometimes, too. to what he had been, to who he had loved, and his heart ached for a little child and their brother that had been more than a brother. his protector, sirius. who wasn't there for him anymore. he'd be his own protector. he drowned them, both of them, little regulus and little sirius. regulus lived in the past, but his past would never, ever define him again. little regulus was vulnerable, but he had learnt his lesson; regulus black would never leave his guard down again, for anyone.
