It’s interesting looking at the series’ original outline and then comparing it to what the series eventually morphed into. There’s a huge difference between how Arya in book one is written versus how someone like Sansa, Daeneryes, Jamie, or Tyrion are written in later books. Arya in GOT initially comes across as the stereotypical girl-dresses-as-boy/girl-wishes-she-was-boy trope that we see waaaay too often in fiction, especially fantasy fiction (it was everywhere in the 80′s and 90′s to the point where anything feminine in fantasy was seen as unfemminist somehow). I’m so glad the series matured and the characters with it so that we got the complex and rich story that we have with complex and well rounded characters, the types you don’t always see in fantasy.
When she opened the door to the garden, it was so lovely that she held her breath, unwilling to disturb such perfect beauty. The snow drifted down and down, all in ghostly silence, and lay thick and unbroken on the ground. All color had fled the world outside. It was a place of whites and blacks and greys. White towers and white snow and white statues, black shadows and black trees, the dark grey sky above. A pure world, Sansa thought. I do not belong here. Yet she stepped out all the same.
Its honestly sad that antis can’t understand that this line is Sansa’s character. They spend so much time debating the specifics of how spoiled, bratty, bitchy, selfish, and treasonous she is, when the reality of her character is so completely different.
She’s a young girl who, even after all these tragedies have happened to her, can look out upon a garden and be taken away by how completely beautiful it is. Despite how profoundly depressing her life has been for years at this point, despite seeing her family murdered in front of her, she instantly jumps to see how the snow has made a wonderland outside her door.
And then she thinks I do not belong here
She sees all of this beauty around her, and doesn’t think she belongs; she doesn’t think she deserves something so perfect. A far cry from the narcissistic and power hungry bitch that her antis paint her to be, she can’t even include herself in the good she sees outside.
Yet she stepped out all the same
That line says everything you need to know about Sansa. She thinks she doesn’t belong with beautiful things anymore; that she is too damaged, traumatized, or wrong to fit in with a world of whites and greys and blacks. But she steps out all the same. She so desperately wants to be a part of this world, to be a part of the beauty she sees in it. Her snow castle is her part of making something beautiful, of just being a part of the wonder she sees.
It’s just amazing to me that you could read this chapter and miss so much of Sansa’s nature. The raw innocence in which she approaches the failed Godswood is so indicative of her character, and its a shame antis can’t see it.
If you’re going to turn Game of Thrones into a shipping war and compare complex fictional characters with real life monsters like Hitler, and curse out anyone that doesn’t share your same opinion, then you are not mature enough to watch this show. Come back and rewatch it in a couple years when you’ve gotten some more life experience and maturity.
— Reek I, A Dance with Dragons
Roslin is my lord father’s youngest daughter by Lady Bethany of House Rosby, his sixth wife. She has a gentle nature and a gift for music. (requested by anonymous)
You know one of the things that saddens me the most about the dance (other than the deaths of my faves and it's general outcome) Is the extinction of dragons.
There were such majestic creatures and it really hurts to see them die out like that. But I then I start thinking about how the future would have turned out with dragons still alive and...
Aerys II with a dragon?
The battle of the Trident but Rhaegar has a dragon? (Actually, since he descends from a Targaryen princess, Bobby B could also have a dragon if he managed to claim one and that's equally terrifying.)
Actually, with dragons on their side the Mad King would have won the war 100% and basically all of our faves would have died or never been born.
The blackfyre rebellions but both sides have dragons? Shit, that'd be a second dance.
Aegon IV with a dragon? ( No wait nevermind , he'd be too fat to get on it anyway)
Suddenly I'm so glad these Targs never had the chance to get their nasty hands on them.
Sorry Morning, but I'm kind of glad you were the last one.
This is perfection

When someone judges Helaena because she chose a son to be killed, remember that B&C threatened her and her daughter with being raped and that they would torture her children.
A mother doesn't want her children to die, they gave Helaena the feeling that she could choose, but they hurt her anyway.
The princess is one of the victims here

Posting a pov character from asoiaf until winds of winter drops ✨ shitty doodle edition ✨:
Daenerys "Stormborn" Targaryen. (And baby dragons).
I finally did another one! Speaking of when things are finally done, hoping that in the new book she can start making some sort of comeback after that whole oopsie daisy bouquet at Mereen.
(Ps: In my mind painted vest equals the dothraki have a hobby besides pillaging, and they paint little drawings and patterns in their stuff).
(Another headcanon: Daenerys get's super sunburned easily on acount of the Targaryen being albino adjacent.
Because the irony of being the unburned, and looking red as a crab if the sun so much as grazes her is strong).
Colored sketches of Catelyn, I'm not too happy with them but I'm pretty busy right now, so I'll call it a day.
Posting a pov character from asoiaf until winds of winter drops ✨ shitty doodle edition ✨: #1 Bran Stark
My bestie @santsikai and I decided to do a challenge in which we draw a pov character twice a month, more or less. Let's see if we run out of characters or the book gets released first 🤣
Sorry my handwritting is hot garbage btw.
I gave him an ugly bowl cut cuz it felt just right 😌
Wanderin the hall of the reed keep and dreamin of ice demons! The picture of mental health and stability! Our glorious king of bathrobe and underwear!
Poor bastard, I think that if we take Viserys ' way of going from decent and lovely brother to full on crazy murderous bitch as a blueprint I'm justified in feeling kinda sad about Aerys, despite the absolute monster he became later.
Enjoy this unserious little thing
“ I am longing to be with you, and by the sea, where we can talk together freely and build our castles in the air.”
Bram Stoker, Dracula
I so badly wanted someone to write the story of these two sailing at least for a while! Rhaenys both on board and flying Meleys who will obviously accompany them! An adventure where they met with pirates, where she can visit other ports with him... something so she can feed her adventurous side before her children are born, before she is stuck on the Driftnark like a bird with a broken wing!
Brynden Rivers and Shiera Seastar, my two problematic faves, saying goodbye.
(Or, more accurately, Shiera is threatening Brynden with aeons of torture if he dares to do something as dumb as dying, because she will have to find another one to make jealous and boss around and she has no time to do so.)
In my mind this may have happened before the Targaryen forces left to fight in the first Blackfyre Rebellion. (Yes I know that there is no Weirwood in King's Landing but sometimes aesthetic wins over accuracy)
I have my anatomy exam in two days and I should be studying but... it's late. And my brain is mush. I found this wip laying forgotten and I had at least to render the background until it did not look like an utter mess.
(I think it may be some unfinished ASOIAF fanart, because the tree is surely a weirwood, and the characters give me some Brynden and Shiera vibes, but mainly it was an excuse to learn to paint all the things I struggle with.)
"Beneath the gold,the bitter steel"
Ser Aegor Rivers, called "Bittersteel", founder and first Captain-General of the Golden Company.
Aegor Rivers, work in progress.
As partial as I am towards Bloodraven and the Blackwoods I do like Bittersteel as a character. And I will spend the next 20 years detailing his armour.
(the circles floating in the background on the sketch are the golden skulls of the Golden Company. Because I just love that concept. But I don't know if I will have the strength to render them in the final piece. We shall see who will win, if my lazyness or my love for creepy and awesome things)
"Lord Tytos Blackwood met him in the outer ward, mounted on a destrier as gaunt as himself. Very tall and very thin, the Lord of Raventree had a hook nose, long hair, and a ragged salt and pepper beard that showed more salt than pepper. In silver inlay on the breastplate of his burnished scarlet armor was a white tree bare and dead, surrounded by a flock of onyx ravens taking flight. A cloak of raven feathers fluttered from his shoulders"
(VERY quick sketch on samsung notes done during class. )
Lord Tytos Blackwood . He appears in the books like... three times (?), but he is just awwsome. ( I should have at least tried to draw his cloak of raven feathers, but I was too lazy. Maybe when (if) I overpaint it in Painter I'll add it)
Fly or die (the Last Greenseer)
I was reading A Song of Ice and Fire (again) and I felt like painting Bran's "fly or die" dream. The problem is that my brain is broken and I ended up thinking about the Three Eyed Crow and how he probably may have learned greensight the same way from his predecessor... so here is Brynden Rivers being taught the fine art the greenseer by almost being impaled on oniric spikes.
(In my headcanon this happened while he was recovering from the Redgrass Field)
Euron Crow's Eye
Another random sketch on infinite design. I may be developing an addiction to it.
"You've known queens and princesses. Did they dance with demons and practice the black arts?
Lady Shiera does. Lord Bloodraven's paramour. She bathes in blood to keep her beauty."
Lady Shiera Seastar, daughter of King Aegon IV and his last mistress, Serenei of Lys.
"How many eyes does Lord Bloodraven have? A thousand eyes, and one" Brynden Rivers, Lord Bloodraven, warrior, sorcerer, spymaster, Hand of the King and greenseer. My favorite amongst the Great Bastards ( though Shiera Seastar is a close second).
Arya Stark of Winterfell, as I imagined her when I first read A Song of Ice and Fire.
This painting took me about two/three hours, mainly because I was experimenting with a new technique and ( since I love to make things difficult for myself) I worked straight away with colors without sketching it out first. It is far from perfect but I kinda like how it turned out.
Portrait study of Olenna Tyrell one of my favorite characters from A Song of Ice and Fire, as portrayed by Diana Rigg in the HBO series
